Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
So now that the Legendary skill system has been out for enough time on every console for everybody to get acquainted with it, what do you think of it?
I think that it could use improvement, but as is, is a great addition to Skyrim. I think it would be better if they just removed the skill cap, while still giving us the option for resets. It would make the perk respec still in place while we could level without crippling ourselves just to level.

The thing is Raynil, you don't have to do it. It is just another option.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I'm with CBR in that it's as useful as you want it to be.
Personally, I'm never going to use it on any serious character, so it seems like a useless waste of time to me. I think it was implemented well enough since the skill resets are optional and they didn't just remove the skill level cap. There comes a time when my characters should stop leveling and that's when they master their skills. I'm not going to be resetting them since they're often powerful enough once they reach that point. They don't need extra levels. That and it's a serious pain to level up again and again. I can only do that so many times before I get bored.
Really, I've only ever used the Legendary Skills on characters where I'm doing nothing but messing around with Skyrim. It's just not a feature I would use in regular gameplay.

Imagine that...freedom of choice in a game that was sold on a premise of freedom of choice. It's almost as if Bethesda knows their audience.Raynil dralas wrote:Its an awful idea that just encourages silly over leveling.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I could take or leave the extra levels as far as more health, stamina and magicka.
But I like the extra perks. I didn't make the best choices the first time . . .

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I definitely like it. It allows characters to continue leveling up for as long as you like, and removes the necessity of maxing out skills you don't plan to use. No need for a heavy armor wearing warrior to train in light armor if you don't care to. No need for an archer to train in Destruction magic. No need for a mage to master two handed battle axes. You can reset skills you actually use, and get more stats and perks if you still desire more.
Yes, you have to temporarily weaken yourself to do it, but its no where near as hard as it is right out of Helgen. You already have extra health, magicka and stamina, enchanted gear and more potions than you know what to do with.

There honestly just weren't enough perk points for characters who limited their skills. I hate having to train a skill I don't use just to level up, feels like Oblivion all over again.
Although I would have liked another way than resetting your skills. It's fine though.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
To add to my previous post;
My vampire character is meant to be a magical thief. She wears robes and a hood, not armor, though I did put her in Light Armor boots and heavy armor gauntlets just so she's have some minor protection, and to level up those skills just a tad as I went along. Late in her development, though, I realized I was going to need to train some extra skills to get every perk I wanted, including quite a bit under the magic skills, pickpocket and sneak. I found myself playing her like a barbarian after a while, and it got really, really frustrating. I didn't have the perks to make heavy or light armor very effective, and one handed, two handed and archery that I was being forced to train in were not as fun as stealth and spells that I wanted to use for her. I got up to level 74 before I finally broke down and used the Oghma Infinium glitch to max out my combat skills.
But now, I wouldn't have to do that (and yes, I know the Oghma Infinium glitch no longer works). I could just reset her magic skills and level them up at my leisure. I'd probably still train things like armor and weapons, but I could just go to trainers every time I level up, rather than using gear I never wanted to. I can just play my character the way I want to.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
Thank you so much for the logical post. I believe THIS is a big reason it was implemented. The people who complain about it "gimping their character" don't understand the concept at all. I quit Skyrim awhile back around lvl 50-60 just because I thought it was stupid being forced to level ridiculous skills that didn't match my character after a certain point. And lets face it. It's hard to play a game when you can't progress anymore.BunBun299 wrote:To add to my previous post;

Oh, and guess what guys? There is this thing called a "Difficulty" setting. When you're ready to "legendary" some skills (yes, legendary is now a verb hahaha) and reset them, you can lower that setting to keep the realism, or your strength comparable to your enemies'. Whoa, what a freakin' concept. Regardless, it was also meant to make the game harder for those who complained it was too easy! Every complaint I've heard has had an obvious solution if the people who made them would apply common sense. But I guess no matter what, people are gonna complain about something. Look at me, complaining about complainers

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I think I'm missing the point of this legendarying thing (I wanted to join in making up words too
).
Just answer me a couple of questions (I realize my style comes across as implicitly negative but I kind of feel like I want to be convinced its a good idea):
1. If I level up to 100 say, Smithing, and then roll over back to 15 do I lose the ability to smith Ebony, for example, items?
2. If I (foolishly) waste a perk or two into say, Light Armor, do I need to make all the effort to get that skill up to 100 before I can roll it over to reclaim the perk points?
Thanks for helping out a confused PC

Yes to both, although in both cases there are other options, smiothing can go from 15 to 100 in a single tempered item using fortify restoration glitch, and light armour, and block/heavy armour for that matter, are easily raised by annoying Giants. Also raises restoration. (if you don't want to be whacked by giants then there is the reward from Dragonborn DLC)

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
i agree, losing the 100 skill cap would be the logical way to go, i think i would link racial strengths in with this somehowTheificka wrote:So now that the Legendary skill system has been out for enough time on every console for everybody to get acquainted with it, what do you think of it?

i have one character i want to be high level and i want to get there by doing what he does instead of grinding skills he wouldn't use, but tbh that's pretty much all i want from this aspect of the game and i won't be legendising anything else (i also did smithing and have regretted that a bit)

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I'm not sure I would prefer a total uncapping of skills, unless there were an option to either lock a skill at a certain value or spend perk points on something other than perks. I realize not everyone has my weird hang-ups, but I really don't like having unspendable points in games. Part of the reason I use Dragon Souls for Perks is it lets me turn that useless, ever-growing number into actual progression, in the form of either perk points or stat points. I don't really want perk points to then become a useless, ever-growing number in turn.
The way it is now, I can just reset skills until I feel comfortable with the number of perks I have, and then let it rest.
As far as actually using the feature, I keep rerolling characters because I tinker with mods and break my saves, so I haven't actually had many skills reach 100 since 1.9. But I know that if I do hit a wall with skills I like using, I won't hesitate to make use of it. It makes perfect sense to me.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I'm kinda torn on how i feel about the legendary skills but perhaps im just not using them correctly. I suppose if i had a character that only used say One handed, block, and heavy armor then i could continually level him without having to change play styles. As it is, my main character who is lvl 77, has already "mastered" the different play styles and switches between them at whim, so the legendary system kinda interrupts that.
Also, any pure mage characters find legendary skills useful? Basically the enemies will keep leveling up as you level, but your magic will stay the same strength (which isnt too powerful to begin with, while warriors can at least upgrade weapons to legendary and add dual enchantments)

If you're on PC, a bunch of mods have been made to sort that out various ways. Some use perks, some use enchantments.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
The magic skills are probably the easiest to relevel. Cast detect life in a town for alteration. Soul trap on a corpse for conjuration. Muffle and Invisiblity for Illusion. And cast Thunderbolt on Shadowmere for Destruction. The power reduction for a mage doesn't matter all that much, except with Illusion. I've reset Destruction on two different characters now, and got myself back to casting my best spell efficiently within a couple hours.

Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
I found the easiet is alteration. Dual levitate books and until around 40-50 it levels faster than the upgrade bar can keep up with.
Re: Legendary Skills, and your reveiw
Since it seems making it legendary doesn't affect the power or anything beyond wiping the perks in the tree and allowing for more leveling... it could use something more. Like further increasing magnitude of effects or something.
