Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-species?
As the poll states, do you think we will ever get the chance to play as were-boars again? Will we ever get to play as the fabled werelions of Elsweyr? Skyrim was supposed to be werebear central, does their lack of in-game existance bode well for the future inclusion of less traditional were-creatures/forms?
^just food for thought, no need to answer those specific questions unless you want to.
So as the title asks, do you think we will be able to play as alternate were-forms (and no I don't mean werewolf-lords lol) in future games?

Werebears exist in game, with the Dragornborn dlc. And no, I don't think they will reintroduce them.

Yeah but your immune right? I haven't heard anything about you being able to become one?ZackyZombify wrote:Werebears exist in game, with the Dragornborn dlc. And no, I don't think they will reintroduce them.
I actually already had werebears because of my monster mod, so I didn't realize they had added official ones. I'm not talking about were-forms simply existing, I'm talking about us being able to be infected and capable of transforming into alternate were-species. I would so love to be a werelion that could run at unbelievable speeds.

Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
Skyrim had some really awesome potential for lycanthropy that I think more could be done with. I see no reason why a few variations couldn't be put in the system. Like, say there's some Hircine-guild-whatever quests where you could become a werewolf... why not have an alternate choice to become a werebore or a werebear?? Maybe wereboars have better magic-resistance and werebears have better attack?

They had both Werewolves and Wereboars playable in Daggerfall (along with your box-standard vampires); they reintroduced only the Werewolves in Morrowind; they left only the vampires in Oblivion; they then re-introduced Werewolves into Skyrim, as well as introduced a new vampire transformation (while adding Werebears as a new mystical fauna w/ Dragonborn). Given the current trend, I'd imagine they'd at least bring back Werewolves with the next title, and maybe some old/new transformations with them.

Well we all expect at least werewolves coming back at some point. But the question is Were-anything else. This is something you don't see in other games anymore and would really be cool.
What I wonder is why some people have voted they hope not, what possible reason could anyone have to want ONLY standard werewolves as opposed to variation? I just don't understand the new generation sometimes. lol

Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
Given that Bethy added in a new variant for the vampire (Vampire Lord), which is reasonably different than anything created previously, along with werebears (despite the fact that they are unplayable, at the moment), I see no reason why they wouldn't add other new werecreatures, either with new DLC in Skyrim, or in future titles.

Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
i don't think the op is talking about meaningless npc additions. that's like saying the draugr and their various types is "added" content. as well, morrowind had much more vampire content.House of the Wolf wrote:Given that Bethy added in a new variant for the vampire (Vampire Lord), which is reasonably different than anything created previously, along with werebears (despite the fact that they are unplayable, at the moment), I see no reason why they wouldn't add other new werecreatures, either with new DLC in Skyrim, or in future titles.

No it didn't. It was different versions of the same five quests.

True, but the way the game worked added a real different atmosphere for vampire players. It destroyed your disposition so bad you could ride siltstriders anymore, good luck doing any of the guilds and so forth. Even after doing those quests the game was never going to be the same. Now you are a lone travler, you everyone hates you, you have to get around on foot. It just really changed up the game.
In skyrim, and oblivion to an extent, nobody cares. Your a vampire? That's cool. Being a vampire might as well just be one of the random stone powers, because it doesn't really affect your game very much at all.
don't even get me started on the vampire lord thing.
Back on Topic: How should Were-crocs play differently than were-lions, were-bears, and were-wolves?

Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
your answer, again, gets right at the heart of the issue: being a vampire in morrowind actually impacted GAMEPLAY. meaning, everything you did as a vampire. quest line total is but a very small part of the package, especially, in something so dramatic as playing a vampire. or, should i say, should be.Br3admax wrote:No it didn't. your response highlights a lack of clearly seeing the entire issue.
and, don't even get me started with dlc.
Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
not to mention the fact that in morrowind the vampire clans actually presented several option for different playstyles. a mage clan, a fighter clan and the stealth clan., meaning each different style of character could augment their base abilities and playstyles by joining up with a complementary clan or they could go the hybrid route and a mage or thief type character could boost their combat skills, etc. those types of details would be a nice inclusion and reintroduction to refresh the lost complexity.

a little quick on the trigger. anyway, was about to add, what if they actually did something similar with the lycan types? clans, etc. now that would definately be cool. hell, clan wars between the vamps and lycans like the old House Wars. now THAT would be a GLORIOUS revival of an old theme, no? hell, for that matter an assassin clan of some hybrid species that made out like the Morag Tong of old, assassins for hire.

Seeing as other were creatures are not very mainstream, I doubt it. There wont be a very high demand for them. Having said that, I wish they would.

Since when was the elder scrolls a series that tried to be mainstre-oh yeah....your right.Archer wrote:Seeing as other were creatures are not very mainstream, I doubt it. There wont be a very high demand for them. Having said that, I wish they would.
Regardless, I actually think werelions and such would become VERY mainstream. I can see people bringing up wereboars all over twilight forums and youtube trailers the same way that "arrow to the knee" is sprawled across the internet. There is simply something inherently cool about it, at least in my opinion.

I think they will. Bethesda relies so much on player feedback, so since most ES players want were-species, it is likely it will happen.

Is a were-mudcrab and were-slaughterfish possible? If not I'd like were-deer/elk/moose.

Re: Will new ES titles ever re-introduce alternate were-spec
Since it looks like they're catering to casual players now and "dumbing down" the series, I don't think they will. New players just won't understand about Wereboars and Werelions. At least everybody has heard of werewolves.
