What makes the ES series fun for you?
So of the above options, what has drawn you to and kept you in the series?
For me, it was always the open world and combat. Combat has always been fun ever since I leaped into the series, and (to me) it's actually only gotten better. And the open-world of all three games has always been amazing; from the ash-covered slopes of Vvardenfell, to the lush-green hills of Colovia, and now to the snow peaks and valleys of Skyrim, being able to see something in the distance and actually (for the most part) being able to make your way to it has always been amazing.

Why not an all of the above option?
I chose lore and customization. But really, the TES games are the only games for me for all of those reasons.

Chose open world and customization. Like witchery said, the ES series just seems to fit my every need as a gamer. I fell in love with runescape and loved it for years, still do. But when I found ES, I just lost my mind. I love every single bit of it. Down to the last pixel.

Oh, this is hard. I had to pick Story/Lore and Fantasy Elements, though. Big fantasy fan, also love Elder Scrolls' deep and interesting lore. I'm always learning something new as I venture through the games and reading the books. Elder Scrolls is, simply to say, my home away from home.

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
I chose Lore and Customization, for obvious reasons.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
You'd rather run when you can't crawl...

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
I went with lore and customization.
I just love how elaborated the series' lore is.
Of course many things are left vague (which adds flavour as it's a fantasy world - how are they supposed to know everything about their evolution?), but the fact that virtually every aspect of the universe has been thought of is fascinating to me.
And regarding the customization... well, I'm one of those people who need several hours to figure out the looks and 'class' of a new character.
And I'm talking like about up to 10 hours.

customization and magic. while the lore is certainly both detailed and intriguing, the magic system and options available to the pc when I joined the series is still one of the most robust systems to be found in a game.

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
Two options is not enough
For me the best is a big open realistic world (lore plays a big role in this) where I can pretty much do what I want (customization).
Graphics are the last thing I care about in the game. I appreciate a beautiful-looking game, but graphics don't make a game worth playing, they cannot save a bad game, and where content is sacrificed to accommodate graphics everybody is a loser.
As far as Combat goes, while it is an integral part of the game, it's certainly not what I play the game for. If I want combat I will look for an FPS or a strategy game. It should only be a feature, not the focus of an RPG.

As others have said, two options is not enough.
A mixture of all of them is what sets TES apart from different RPGs for me.
I refuse to vote until an "All of the Above" option is added.

"What element(s) draw you into the series the most?"
key word "most"
along with the thread title "What makes the ES series fun for you?"
the question becomes "which of these elements do you find to be the MOST "fun" (enjoyable and/or entertaining)?"

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
Some people are most drawn in by everything: to each their own.
I really love the endless possibilities of an open world. To me, that's the most amazing part, and it's backed up by a rich and intriguing lore. There are sometimes where I read an in-game book and can just feel the emotion of the world around me, and then, moving about in it, see some references from that story or moment of history - and that's what gets me. Many a time I've just sat there and gone, "This is so cool."

It's hard to be most drawn to something if you are drawn to them in equal proportions or find them as equally fun.logansrun wrote:"What element(s) draw you into the series the most?"

Wasn't meant to be an easy question.
Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
in other words "no preference", so then what is the point of even participating other than to voice your general "fandom"?POMC S117 wrote:It's hard to be most drawn to something if you are drawn to them in equal proportions or find them as equally fun.
Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
My general fandom? My dear logansrun, it is not fandom. The topic is "What makes the ES series fun for you". My answer is: all of the options on the poll. The poll question may be: "What element(s) draws you in the most". If all of them draw me in equally then the answer is the same.

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
Please knock it off. This thread was started for fans to share their nostalgia and/or what brought them into the series. If everything about the game drew someone in, so what? I didn't provide the "everything" option because I thought it'd be fun to see if people could highlight their key drivers, but they aren't limited to just two in discussion.logansrun wrote:in other words "no preference", so then what is the point of even participating other than to voice your general "fandom"?

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
I don't see how voicing your criticism of what you believe to be his lack of contribution towards the thread is particularly productive either. He finds it hard to chose his favourite aspect of ES because it is all of the above things that makes the game as great as is. I don't have a problem with that. Mods seemingly don't or they would have said something. Why is it that you do?
But I digress.
The biggest draw for me is the lore and the world followed by the customisation options. Though really it's a good mix of all of the above things that makes me enjoy ES.

by that same "logic" and reasoning then your own criticism is equally "unproductive".Velvet LeChance wrote:I don't see how voicing your criticism of what you believe to be his lack of contribution towards the thread is particularly productive either.

Chaos chose Lore and Open world, there are other games with better combat, customization, and graphics, but it's the world and its history that keeps me playing

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
for me, this is about as easy as it gets: lore and customization.
the open-world is a given in my book for tes and we all know that's not going anywhere. however, as many can easily see, the customization/choices/options are continuing to diminish every subsequent game.

I was torn between open world and customization, but in the end, I could be an invisible ghost and still enjoy what can be explored, so that's what does it for me.

Let's try to talk about what makes the series fun, not what we dislike. Thanks.

Re: What makes the ES series fun for you?
Actually, the more I consider it, the more the story actually brought me into the fold. The intricacy that the writers for TES put into their lore won me over. I consider myself a decent Tolkien fan, and so the nuances between the histories of men and mer intrigued me. Of course, I've always been partial to the Nords, but the other races each had their own uniqueness that I loved.
