Helcêh's Corruption - The City of the Kalkechián

Gelnius waved in greeting to Eandire, he was quiet in the presence of the stranger. He walked over to them, Snowfire eagerly climbed on to Navariësé's shoulder to make himself more comfortable. "What are we having today?" he asked about the booze that may or may not appear before him.

Alva remained motionless beside her girlfriend of what was almost one year now, Lasséör. The curvier, bustier woman was seated beside her wearing the same look of disgust as Alva was. They were wasting coin, coin that could have bought them jewels or swords or beautiful silken dresses. Coin that could have been put to a lot better use that being tossed to beggars.

"Fools." She grumbled as she watched the scene. "Love, please remind me why we continue to travel with them? They will not have the gold to pay us with if they keep this idiocy up."

Kraít frowned. Was the king guard to join them? Perhaps so, if that was the case, then he might not sign up in that case. He cannot risk exposing his coven. Perhaps he could have some fun, maybe with his magic..? He looked for a man that would succumb to his spell easily.

"A red wine." beamed Eändiré. "It seems that it is a rare thing in this part of the city. The barman's out of white wine so you're left with red wine or a choice of the more stronger beverages."

Lasséor smirked at Alva's comments. "One of the leaders is my cousin and they've promised us gold beyond our wildest dreams." she kissed Alva on the cheek. "And we'll need it when we move to our home in Socra."

For Kraít, there was so much choice. Most people here were of average of below-average willpower and were susceptible to attacks of the mind. But then again, he would risk exposing himself to the guards if he used a spell here. And what about the ranger.

"I will join you then as i am duty bound to protect the innocent. I loathe those evil beings. But heed my words, i will not standby and allow an innocent to be harmed. I would rather die then let one get harmed whilst we can do something." She replied. Her tone hinted at anger when she mentioned orks. Her removed her hand from the sheathed handle of her left sword. "I have one question to ask you. Why ask me and not the hundreds of fools that rush to sign up?" She looked at the crowd with disgust as if they had personally offended her. She despised the Orks. 200 years ago, they had wiped out the group of rangers that she had known her entire life. She barely survived but it left her with a very strong hatred of them and often, she would make them suffer whenever she had the chance.

Alva frowned slightly at the mention of Socra, Julius was dead there would be no apartment on the beach however she didn't mention this to her lover. She'd come by the coin somehow. There was no way she was going to disappoint her girlfriend.

"Sara and Arador were said to have settled in Socra when all was done." She replied, referring to her girlfriends favourite bedtime story though she hadn't told it in a while now. She usually got Lasséör off to sleep by different means now a days.

Kraít decided to not use his spell, he continued looking, he went into the inn, a look of disinterest on his face. He sat down at a table, he frowned. Perhaps he should talk to his coven, talk to his parents? He chewed on a stand of his hair.

"You seem more qualified than most, no?" said Eändiré. "You seem young yet almost as experienced as I am, like you have been from one end of Eusiac to other. I know how it feels, I have wandered the land often, never staying in one place to long. But a shadow has awoken and so must I, to confront it." he added.

"And didn't they not have a fiery, passionate romance for the rest of their life." she grinned.

She certainly enjoyed the story, but yes, Alva did have other means of getting both of them to sleep. Ones which she preferred over a story any time of the week.

Kraít was sat beside Gelnius, close to Eändiré and the elf female. He could overhear them talking about orks and shadows and confronting said shadows. He saw an owl sitting, nibbling on someone's ear.

Kraít listened in some more, observing the owl with an eye. How was that allowed in an inn? He thought. "No matter." He said out loud, dismissing it, dismissing the thought and all troubles.

[Hissien]

I like this one... The owl said to Gelnius through their shared mind.

You hardly know her, and besides now is hardly the time to be giving someone love bites on the ear. Gelnius argued with the bird.

"If we don't fight the orks, all of these people, their families and their children will die wont they?" Gelnius asked even though he knew the answer. "Better to go down fighting than to die hiding from the tide."

Eändiré turned to Kraít.

"No matter what?" he asked, inquisitively.

Kraít looked at E(...I'm not even going to try the a.)ndi(Or the r.)e, and frowned. He didn't respond. "No matter." He simply repeated, his thoughts are his own, the elf cannot say he are due to know them.

Navariese felt the owl land on her shoulder and gently raised a hand towards him. She slowly stroked him. "You are a lovely owl. I hope that your owners treat you well. Feel free to nibble on my ear. I know you won't do any harm to me as long as i don't give you a reason to." She said whilst stroking him. Her tone had changed from her cold, almost emotionless to a softer and caring tone. She loved nature and to her, it was her only friend. She gently removed her hood to allow the owl to nibble on her ear. In doing so, she revealed her scarred face. She saw Krait sit down. "Do you have a reason to sit with us?" She said to Krait. Her tone changed back to the cold one. She turned to Eandire. "I am experienced and can handle myself in a fight. I mostly handle bandits and the odd Ork raiding party. But if this shadow threatens to harm the innocent. I will destroy it. Not for honour or glory. Not for gold. But because i must and will or die trying." She replied to him. Her tone hinted at disgust when she mentioned glory. "No matter what and at any cost." She turned her head slightly to look at Snowfire.

"And that is why I fight. Or try to. In my age, my fighting skills have lessened, though I can still hold my own in combat. Also, knowledge is one reason why I do this. One can never have enough knowledge, as long as you know what knowledge is dangerous and what is not." said Eändiré, ignoring the very rude reply of Kraít.

"He likes you, so he says at least." Gelnis said smiling. "He tends to be a good judge of character. I am Gelnius and this is my partner, Snowfire." Gelnius said extendin his hand to Navariësé.

Alva gave a small giggle at that before bending down and planting a small kiss at the edge of her girlfriends mouth. "Love you." She muttered in return, something she had made sure to say at least once a day. "And now what do you want to drink?"

"I'll take anything that's not water." replied Lasséor.

The first day Lasséor had entered the city, she had fallen violently ill after drinking contaminated water. Now, she would only drink alcohol or anything that was not water.

Kraít looked at the scarred woman. "I simply sat here, it's much like Lokve.." How that name didn't feel right to him, he worshipped another. Alitura. "Like I was guided here by a unseen hand." He shrugged. "Perhaps something is binding and spinning away."

Zyava looked at what was going on with strained curiosity. The promise of coin was a tempting one. It had been a while since someone had willingly offered her money. But the crowd and the noise were overwhelming to her. She stood and watched for a long while before deciding join the group lining up for the offered money. If she changed her mind about accepting the offer she could always run off with the coin. People that gave money away this freely were unlikely to expend resources on hunting down a handful of deserters.

Navariese hesitated for a few seconds before extending her hand. "Greetings Gelnius. I am Navariese. Snowfire is a very lovely owl. I've met plenty in the wild but he is one of the few to rest on my shoulder." She said in a soft voice and gave a small smile towards him.

"All of my experience and skills were hard earned. True, i'm more experienced then most people but at a heavy cost. I wish to speak of this no futher." She said to Eandire. She hated speaking about her past. Snowfire started to nibble on her ear. She enjoyed the feeling.

How long exactly have we been in the city?

"Ale it is." Alva smiled before turning away and making her way through the crowd. She frowned upon seeing the rest of her group and stood waiting at the other end of the bar for her drinks - away from the fools and Elves she had been banded with.

"Or perhaps you came here in search of drink, though I like your explanation better." smiled Eändiré.

Zyava spent several minutes in the queue, being jostled and shoved by people who wanted to get to the table before her. The promise of coin made them mad with greed. They had a glint in their eye. They wanted the five hundred napleans and many would stay on with the group to get all of what they had been promise, though most would not make it to the end. When Zyava's patience had almost been entirely expended, when her annoyance had almost gotten the better of her, the ranger at the table called her forward, ignoring the thirty or so people in front of Zyava. He sensed potential in people and Zyava had lots of it. She would make a fine addition to the group, more so than the rest of the people here put together, who had never wielded a pot so much as a sword or a bow or even a dagger.

"Ugluh, please, come to the front. If you wish to join, sign your name here and receive your coins." said Aradir.

Some of the crowd booed but were soon silenced when Aradir threatened to cut the joining price to two hundred napleans, a reduction of three hundred.

The barman reappeared, bottle of expensive red wine in hand, as Alva arrived at the bar. He spotted her and smiled.

"What can I get you, lady?" he asked, polite as always.

"I will allow you to sit here but in the future, should we ever meet again. Don't bother speaking to me unless you have a valid reason for sitting near me. I have little patience for fools." She told Krait in a cold tone whilst she gently stroked Snowfire who was gently nibbling her ear.

"Ale." She stated brusquely, impatient to get back to her lover for what would most likely be an evening if drinking and [&@%!] - an evening she had no problems with. "Four if you will. Save ne having to come back.
