Hey guys, I have a quick question:
Is it possible to split the playback of different media players/programs across two sound cards?
For example, can I set WinAmp to play over the built-in sound card while having the sounds coming from Windows and the browser play over an external sound card? If so, how?
This isn't my computer, and it's really unwieldy, so I can't mess around until I find out myself like I usually would.

Re: Sound card help
I'm sure it's possible, but you would need to set the device in the program itself. I know that the programs Skype and Audacity have their own output selection setting and when I have my Blue Yeti plugged in I can make certain programs play their sounds through the Yeti headphone jack and other programs play through the PC speakers. Like a Skype conversation go through the microphone, but a YouTube video or Steam game play through the speakers.

It's certainly possible. I don't know how to do it, but you can split / diverse channels practically as much you want, providing you have the hardware and software for it.
Just think of the editing they do with movies? Or music?
It's plainly... go ahead. But you probably have to pay for a program, somewhere along the road.

Re: Sound card help
Oh damn, I forgot I'd made this thread. Thanks for the replies, guys. Fortunately the situation resolved itself.
In case you're curious: The computer at my dad's cafe got busted (not sure what happened, I thought it was a complete hard drive failure, but we somehow retained most of the data), and as a result we couldn't play any music. My uncle (the co-owner) hooked his laptop up to the sound system as a makeshift solution until the computer could be fixed. However, he didn't want to stop running whatever applications he was running, and most of them made sounds from time to time, which would play over the music. So I was tasked with "fixing it" (just not running all those programs wasn't an option because my uncle's a stubborn oaf). I tried splitting the audio over two sound cards, but couldn't do it, hence the original post. The computer was fixed within the same day however, so and everything's in order.
