I can because no one in the ES universe really thinks that.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
What are you talking about. I've never met anyone in any TES game refer to him as anything but an Aedra. Hell, the wiki classify him as an Aedra because that's what most of the sources point to him as. One random storybook claims hes mortal, that's it. A priest of Arkay in the Cult of the Nine Divines would argue with that.
As you said yourself in another thread:

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
There is definitely at least one source that strongly indicates Arkay had his origins as a mortal, probably of Aldmeri stock. If he was a mortal, then he could not have been around at Convention, which predated mortal races.Anonymous98223 wrote:What are you talking about. Also, since you seem to believe that the attitudes of worshipers shape the divine, the shopkeeper story is apparently much more popular than other origin stories for Arkay, so whether or not it's true, it may influence his powers and retroactively alter his origins, in the way tampering with the Heart did to the Tribunal, or the Alessian Priests dancing on the Tower did to Akatosh.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Arkay's prayer in Falkreath also has him described as a mortal.

I wouldnt be so quick to denounce talos as an aedra. Isnt talos supposed to strengthen all the tpwers or something like that? Im pretty sure his existense is linked to the survival of mundus.
And besides, talos shares the soul of lorkhan and akatosh, both of whom are ancestors of mundus.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
With that being said, i dont think that worshiping the aedra seems to do much good, seeing as they are dead and the strongest of them only rarely send us avatars.
So id probally get dissillusioned with the aedra and worship nocturnal or hircine. Both seem to be pretty straight up with their followers

I'm going to have to go with Aedra; specifically Stendarr. But Hermaeus Mora would tempt me to follow him at times...

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
Much as I'd be tempted to go all out for the Daedra (most of my characters worship them to some degree) I'm not really the sado-masochist secret cult kinda guy myself. If the In-Between was an option (as I think he should) I'd worship Lorkhan because none of us would be here without him, and also because I have a thing for the moon(s); as he's not I'll go with Kynareth and Dibella.

The Daedra. Probably either Sheogorath or Hermaeus Mora.
I've always been one of the more "academic" folks and the prospect of forbidden knowledge interests me.
I've also been regarded as somewhat crazy by those who know me, so Sheogorath is also a possibility.

So tentacle-chest-rape or [&@%!]? None of those sound appealing to me. I would rather have my soul give life to the future then having a Daedric Lord misuse it forever.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
Do I want to know what you said or not? Hm. I'll stick with no.
I've never cared for the Aedra, and the Daedra interest me far more. I think any reward they give would be worth the price. It's certainly a more risky path than worshiping the Aedra and I think, if I were in the Elder Scrolls universe, that would be a risk worth taking.
Hermaeus Mora and Sheogorath just so happen to be my two favorite Daedric Princes. The others? Not really too fond of them.
Though Molag Bal would be a choice if I were a Vampire.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
I'm just wondering how the risk is worth taking. To me, the daedra may seem cool, but that's okay because they are contained to a few Blu-rays for me. To the ES people, they are omnipotent beings who will always take the souls of mortal fools to give themselves power. In universe, I wouldn't even say the name daedra without being in a chapel.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
I will admit that I happen to have a lust for power and a controlling personality. Somebody like that would be more than willing to hand over their soul to the Princes of Oblivion... For a price.
The Daedra appeal to that... Nastier... Side of me. Given the opportunity, like being inside the Elder Scrolls universe, I suspect that that side of me would eventually become the most dominant. Assuming I survived (I probably wouldn't).
Any mortal with an "evil" personality and a lust for power would find that the rewards of dealing with the Daedra (the potential to gain power) would outweigh the risks (most likely death, or eternal torment... Or whatever the Daedric Prince in question feels like). The good or neutral mortals wouldn't see things the same as the evil ones, that's for certain. They would be more likely to fear the Daedra (and for good reason), and would choose to worship the Aedra. I think they would feel the Aedra would protect them from the Daedra.
I think whether or not the risk is worth taking will depend on ones alignment, mental state, or personality.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
I'd go with the Daedra. More specifically Azura, and maybe Herma Mora or Meridia, but most likely Azura. Its just more tangible worshipping them and I have a better chance of not being screwed over.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
In the game I prefer the Daedra because they are more entertaining than the Aedra, but if they were real I'd worship Aedra. The Daedra don't seem to treat their followers very well.

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
I can see me doing a little bit of both. The usual main Aedric religion - it's easy, has no drawbacks, and some nice benefits.
I think I would try and "appease" rather than "worship" the Daedra, in the "if I keep you happy, you'll probably leave me alone" sense.

^In that regards>_> it's better just to give respects than worship. Some of course wouldn't care and still have evil thoughts, hints give respect where deserved. Azura obviously would be one^_^ then again Aedra can just as easily be manipulative so both sides have their edge

Re: Aedra vs Daedra
Kyne/Kynareth/Tava seems like a pretty safe patron deity for a human being. She's always lent a helping hand to Humanity in its darkest hours, hasn't she? She gave humans of all kinds the awesome powers over the air they needed to crush various types of slave masters and monsters. The Left-Handers of Yokuda felt the power of the Wind as their Orichalc Tower crumbled before the might of the Sword Singers. The cruel Ayleids were scattered to the four winds by Morihaus and Pelinal, acting on her behalf. Her Daughters begged Paarthurnax to examine the evil in his heart, and he overcame it. He taught mortals the Thu'um and they broke the chains of the Dragon Cult with it. They then freed their kin from the Direnni and Ayleids and helped carve out the First Empire of Men.
If anything, Kyne is more the prime god of mankind than Talos. Talos is more a son of her and Akatosh than anything.

Shor, seems to most benevolent God to me, and hell also the most powerful, take shelter with him and no one dares to mess with you, plus in a universe where fighting and war is expected of you, I'd take up a sword if Sovngarde was my reward.

I'd be an Aedra person myself, probably along the lines of Julianos or Kynareth. Deadra worship just seems like to much of a risk.

Agreed, they're not really the best investment of your faith.MoncarBelvani wrote:I really do fail to see any good reason to worship the Daedra (remember this question is about you, not your character). Even the "good" Daedra are capricious, jealous and vain, and could make bad things happen to you. The way I see it, the Aedric religion is a pretty easy one to follow, the Aedra don't demand a lot and you get some minor benefits out of it.

The Aedra, more specifically Talos (Lorkhan).
