Game of Thrones
Are people watching this?
I searched for a topic, and it ended around May 2012.
How is there not a current discussion going on about this show.
I had never seen any eps, and my cousin kept banging on about how good it was. He is a fellow Skyrim player, so his word holds some weight. So he lent me season 1 and 2 and I spent a weekend watching them all and catching up, as season 3 was about to be aired.
This show is unreal. It has fighting, drinking and f'king. There are some clever characters and really interesting story lines and twists, but what else do you need other than the before mentioned trinity.
I strongly recommend checking it out if you aren't already watching.
Tyrion Lannister is brilliant. His character alone makes the show worth the watch. Not to mention Daenerys Targaryen.
Well, it looks like I just did.

Re: Game of Thrones
I read the books first. The television series doesn't even compare to them books IMO.

For television the show is quite good. But I agree. Read the books first, they tell the story much better.

Re: Game of Thrones
I love the show. I'm almost done with book 3 (I only recently started) and I'm almost as immersed in this world as I am TES. My new favorite franchise. (or second favorite. . . heh.) I watched the premiere of season 3 last night and I was blown away. It is really, really good! The books and tv show are about equal imo. I love them both.
And Dany. Dany! She is great, my favorite character. She and Jon. I like Sansa quite a bit too, and Catelyn (The Tullys are my favorite house, I think), and Robb. And Melisandre. Oh my goodness Melisandre.
I love all the characters, okay?! Not too crazy about Tyrion, though he has a certain charm and Peter Dinklage is superb.
And for anyone who has watched the show but hasn't read the books/vice versa . . I strongly recommend looking into the counterpart. They're both magnificent.

Re: Game of Thrones
I consistently like Tyrion after the first book and he's charismatic from the start of the show. I find Dany depressing as the books go on but that's just me. I appreciate all she's been through but I find it hard to like her.

I personally find Bran to be the dullest. Hodor has more character than him imo.

Re: Game of Thrones
There's loads of character's in A Song Of Ice and Fire that I just love. Some of them minor, some of them major. Bron (the sellsword) is definitely one of my favorites even if he isn't featured much. The Hound was a great character as is Barristan Selmy. Tyrion is probably my favorite major character followed by Davos Seaworth (I've always liked him for some reason.)
I also dislike Daneary's though she has developed nicely over the course of the books even if in a negative way.
Bran has an interesting storyline.
In terms of how they were portrayed in the series I can't tell you because I haven't really been watching it. I've seen a few episodes of a Game of Thrones as watching the films and series for books I really liked tends to kill it for me. I've built up a world in my head and it tends to die when I see it on the screen. That and the films and series that are created about the books I love tend to suck.

I assure you, the series does not suck.
Dany's story has been much more interesting than Bran's imo.

Re: Game of Thrones
Bran's story grows quite a bit in the fourth and fifth books. He remains fairly minor but gets much more interesting. Dany's story is interesting but like I said I find it hard to like her.

Ah, I'm glad Bran grows a bit. He just seems dull initially, I guess.
And I understand what you mean; I find it hard to like Tyrion, though most people find him wonderful.

No, Bran stays just as dull. It's just that he's dull with slightly more interesting plot things going on.

Re: Game of Thrones
I should read the books. But I know I won't. My cousin's wife has read all the books and says it's a fairly close match. She likes the books a bit better, but says it's nice to see it come to life on screen. I think also the writer of the books is heavily involved in the TV series.
Which always helps to keep it similar.
I don't know what happens down the line, but like most of these shows... it never goes the way I'd like.

Re: Game of Thrones
Yeah, get ready for that whole "not going the way I like" thing. Remember, the creators of the show have stated they wanted to make this show just so they could bring one of the world's most heartbreaking scenes to television.

Re: Game of Thrones
I've read the first three books, was moving up to the fourth but couldn't find the first part
. Unfortunatly, I've also missed the first episode of Season 3 due to me being in Poland, but hopefully I'll catch up. I remember when I got my Uncle to, mhm, 'download' the first 2 seasons (since I missed most of them) for me and saying that I shouldn't watch it, then getting hooked himself. Ahhh, irony.

I also like Joffrey; he reminds me a lot of myself. The rebellious teenager that is, not the endless murder and power craze.

GRRM goes out of his way to turn Joeffrey into one of the most hated characters in modern literature. How anyone could like him is beyond me.

Re: Game of Thrones
I find nothing but pure hatred for Joffery as he's depicted in both the books and the show. I do have to give credit to Harry Lloyd for his portray of Viserys though. He was monstrous but he did manage to make me feel sad for Viserys in a way that the book never did.

Currently reading the first book in the series. I'm about 2/3 into the book. I'm also watching the TV show as I go along.
I love Bronn. Him and Tyrion are some of my favorite characters in the show.

Re: Game of Thrones
I love Game of Thrones!
Me in a Game of Thrones crown:
I just finished the fourth book, and am caught up with the TV series. The show's a bit raunchy and violent for my taste, but it's overall a very good adaptation of the series.
My favorite characters are Tyrion, Jon Snow, and Brienne, I think. Sansa was really annoying for quite a while, but she's gotten a lot better. The Hound is one that I ended up liking quite a bit too, which surprised me. As far as Danaerys, I agree with p-sto in that her parts of interesting, but I don't necessarily like her. Probably the most boring parts to me are Davos Seaworth's POV and whatever POV is in the Iron Islands with the Greyjoys; the show so far has made it a lot more interesting, though.
Also, I love the title theme. I'm learning this person's version on piano:
