Personal Enchanted Items

Post by mcjordalini »

Hello everyone, been a while since I've posted on here. Been playing Skyrim for the 360 since it's release and I've gotten all the DLC and am still thoroughly enjoying it. However the artifacts and legendary items that are in the game just aren't strong enough in my opinion ... It bothers me that players are able to craft items far beyond the power of an artifact or legendary item.

So ... A fun little "hobby" of mine in Skyrim, is to make my own legendary artifacts. I will find a cool looking, or unique piece of clothing, weapon, or armor, create a name for it and enchant it with whatever enchantments suit it best. Generally I will do this with 100 Smithing, 100 Alchemy, and 100 Enchanting so the items are as powerful as possible.

My question to you guys is, do you create your own legendary items ? If so, show me some pictures of them. Do you have stories behind them? Where your character came across it, or how they managed to forge a magical blade.

I'll go first with an example of my characters bow:

I once made a blade called "Bane of the Falmer." There was an enchanted weapon that came with Legendary Creatures (I think it was dropped by the Boiler, found in Blackreach) that would do extra damage to Falmer. I disenchanted that and made my own sword out of it.

Trying to find a picture of it... I can't remember what its stats were. This is a real trip back in time here...
Still haven't found it yet.
Nope, I found it.
It was a Daedric Sword (this was from long before any of the DLC's were released and before I got my hands on the Creation Kit) that did 84 damage (with smithing improvments; the blade was Legendary). The enchantment itself was 75 additional points of damage against Falmer, and absorb 20 points of health.

Image grabbed off Facebook.
That was with either my second or third Skyrim character (either with Lanari the Bosmer, or J'rani the Khajiit Vampire).
A moment of being off topic: I just ran across an old shot of the original Vulom that scared the crap out of me. It's the eyes. I was not expecting that.

To be honest, I don't really create my own legendary weapons or armor. I might name them to distinguish them from other weapons I have (especially with dual-wielders), but most of the time, they aren't named. I just tend to stick with whatever is in the game.

The items received during Daedric quests could be a little stronger, but other than that, I don't really pay any attention to "legendary" items.

I created a Daedric bow called Elkbane that had a soul-trap enchantment on it; just used it for anything I came across (which were often elk, thus the name) while I was training my enchanting.

I disenchanted the Champion's Cudgel and created my own Legendary Dragonbone Bow with Chaos Damage and Paralysis enchantments. It's the only weapon I've made but I use it a lot. Combined with custom poisons and Bullseye, it seems to kill or paralyze most of the time. <3

I don't think that in-game artifacts need to be the most powerful items available to you. If they were, there'd be little point in the Crafting aspect of the game. No need to make anything, just go and grab the best stuff. For myself, I see such items as collectables, things to be sought out and gathered simply for their uniqueness.

As for Enchanting, I never make use of it. Being on an eternal soul-trapping spree to keep weapons charged is too much tedium for me. With Skyrim's lack of weapon degradation, I've come to be comfortably lazy, knowing that my unenchanted weapons will be in peak form every time I brandish them. I will make use of found/looted enchanted armour and jewellery, when the enchantments suit me, but I don't bother crafting this stuff from scratch either.

Having said that, I do find this topic and the responses interesting and informative. It's just that dabbling in too much magic simply isn't right for my personality and playstyle. Even in fantasy, I prefer to be grounded in believable reality.

Yea I see what you are saying.

I have tried playing without enchantments on my weapons and using Elemental Fury as a weapon booster. That was a lot of fun, but then I enchanted my weapons and liked it better.

I did the same. I dual-wield two Dragonbone Swords and one of them has Chaos Damage and Fiery Soultrap on it, the other has Absorb Life and Absorb Stamina. :D Those are my fave weapons along with the bow I posted at the top.

On a playthrough with a character who opted to destroy the Dark Brotherhood, I had her kill one member at a time, soul trap them upon death, create an enchanted item named after them, and display them all together in her house as trophies. It was a while ago so I don't remember all of them, but I know that Nazir was bound to a scimitar. Every ancient artifact was new once, so I liked to imagine that a hundred or so years later the items would be legendary and highly sought after the way various artifacts in the game are. Maybe some ambitious necromancer would even try to release their souls and use them as powerful undead minions. :Twisted Evil:

I've enchanted plenty of gear but on my current playthrough I'm using stuff I find, I'm not as powerful as b4 but its more challenging now as opposed to full double enchanted alchemy enhanced gear... I was too powerful and got bored quick...

I think making personal enchanted items is really fun. You often cross characters who have such items, so why wouldn't the hero? I started this in Oblivion and ended up making a lot of things that tied into my character's story. Haven't gotten far enough to do so in Skyrim yet, and my current main character is not an enchanter, but I may take it up later just to give him a glorious sword in his own liking.

My Inquisitor has an embalming tool weapon (handyman mod) that is known as Arkay's Desideratum. He also uses an executioner's axe called Veredictum.

I miss naming potions and poisons.

With self-enchanted items I usually go with a naming scheme that groups all of them when sorted alphabetically in the inventory.
When I was fond of using Mehrunes' Razor I named my other items:
- Mehrunes' Claimer (a soultrap dagger)
- Mehrunes' Stunner (a paralysis dagger)
- Mehrunes' Archer (a bow)
- Mehrunes' Picker (a pickaxe)

I've only had two personal enchanted weapons. One was a silver sword enchanted with frost or something.. Called Wolfsbane. Then a daedric dagger with 1 sec soul trap called Soulstice.

My characters make use of the enchanting system and like to craft specialized weapons for their loved ones. Granted, none of them have reached legendary smithing yet (my thief is really darn close) so its been either items they find or can make like glass or elven. It depends on the character. My Altmer only makes elven weapons and armor, my assassin makes whatever, and my thief likes to craft arrows (she can do Stahlrim now).

For the special people in their life, armor and weapons are enchanted. The one who does this the most is the assassin, who names the weapons after the person its for like "Onmund's Axe of Thunder", etc. The thief has made a few bows for herself but she turns around and sells them since the Nightingale Bow is her favorite. And she does find it a pain to keep putting souls in that damn thing.

I do that too, lately. In my current playthrough my follower Cosnach sports an ebony bow named "Cosnach's Greeting" and wears "Cosnach's Bulwark", "Cosnach's Fists" etc. My PC Sylvaine, on the other hand, wears a Forsworn headdress named "Witchhair", gloves called "Witchhands", a Witchring and a necklace named Witch's Jewel with her Black Mage Robes, all enchanted with +Magicka or +Magicka Regen; when going to town, i.e. forced to move among 'civilized' people who might look askance at traditional Reach magic, she used to wear a set of (enchanted) fur armour named "The She-Wolf's Fur", recently replaced by "Witchhide", to go with the theme.

In general I use gear I find and improve it until I can make something better. All my characters make extensive use of crafting (indeed that's the one thing in which you might say I sin against strict roleplaying standards - or I might just as well say that I can't imagine playing a character who doesn't enjoy making things and tinkering with things), and hitting legendary smithing is usually just a question of time. I tend to make myself a pair of +Smithing gloves and a +Smithing ring sooner or later, and if I get carried away a +Smithing blacksmith's apron, and I use whatever +Smithing or +Enchanting potions I may have in my inventory at the time, but I don't get compulsive about it or try to loop the process, I'm too lazy for that. Also, I enchant a lot for practice and for selling, but only when I make something for myself or my followers do I name the product.

When I'm in full-on Dark Brotherhood mode, I dual-wield a pair of Ebony daggers.

One is enchanted with frost and named "Dusk's Horizon". The other, with fire, "Dawn's Horizon".

Why 'Horizon'? I first imagined, when Skyrim was first announced, a legendary weapon in the game should be named 'Horizon'. That is what a 'Skyrim' is, after all.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

For my main character, I enchanted a full suit of Dragon Plate and named it Dragon Heroine Armor, Dragon Heroine Boots, etc. Its been a while since I played, so I could give you exact stats on the enchantments. For weapons, she has a dragon bone sword with absorb stamina and absorb health called the Dragon Life Sword. In her left hand she wields a dragon bone mace with soul trap and absorb magicka enchantments called the Dragon Spirit Mace. Its next to imposible to die while using this gear.

Well my current armor is very well built dragonscale, though I didn't perfect the alch-Ench-smithing loop. My personal armor as a whole is called Vahzah Dovqah, with each piece having Dovqah followed by its own name. There is Onikaan(gauntlets), Ahkrin(Boots), and Mulaag(Cuirass). In the respective order..
Spoiler:
-Gauntlets have 65 bonus to magic and 40% for bows
-Boots have 65 bonus on stamina and 35% regen on the same
-Cuirass has 65 bonus on health and 65% regen on magic
Then I got two pieces of jewelry, both of which are the ring and necklace made of bonehawks. The ring is called Viirqeth and the necklace is Nahlqeth, both have a bonus of 70 magicka, however the fing has a 70% regen on magic while the other has 35% for stamina.
I only have one personal enchanted weapon, but it's my ancient nordic pick axe named Vahzen with fiery soul trap and the notched effect
My bow and main sword remain only modified via smithing. Then again all my followers get custom gear. Serana and the db initiate wear matching dragonscale and a dragon priest mask. I too wear one, and it is always Morokei. In total my armor rating is 1201.. ocd on that last digit...

I made an Imperial that was basically just a merchant who travelled around selling his custom enchanted gear. He was super [&@%!] about his organization and his business. I named everything with a name like you would find on sports equiptment.

Let's say I made some leather boots with 20 extra carry weight it would be "KLUNK-LBCW20". A glass helemt with alteration? no problem -- check out our KLUNK-GHAL15! I made so much stuff on my trips around that I didn't bother selling it all at once and I had chests in my house with piles of stuff all organized and whatnot.

I imagined he had a space at the East empire Wharehouse with boxes and boxes of stuff all labeled and filed correctly.

All the armour was called KLUNK -- like "KLUNK brand armour, it's the protectiviest". All the weapons were BONK -- like "If you don't BONK 'em -- you're a milk drinker". After a while he started making custom branded stuff. His name was Rahn -- so when he finally achived the ability to double enchant stuff he started making RAHNSLAUGHT branded weapons. It was a lot of fun!

Terror Talon.

It's a shiv.... in fact it's THE shiv I stole from the big burly orc I met during my time in the Markarth Slammer. I took it and infused it with the power of Fear and Chaos. It could scare the greybeards.... assuming it didn't burn them out of existence on the first poke. It blew up a dragon in a single piercing strike. It made an automaton of dwemer construct flew to the inner bowels of the ruins.

I then lost it cause a Death Lord disarmed me as his partner Fus'd me and my spike o' doom over a mountain.
