Nightingale for light, and Ebony for heavy. Though If I mix armor (I reccomend this for all heavy users) a Blades hemlet, Ebony mail, and Ebony boots and gauntlets. It looks really good.

I personally like the look of steel plate armor a lot. Thieves guild armor looks pretty cool too. And of course Nordic carved.

On a female, Steel Plate and Ebony look the best. On a male, every armour type looks equally bad.

It looks more like a skin-tight suit to me than armor. I'm personally disappointed by that.Dohvakiin2012 wrote:I think the Blades armor looks good on males.

I liked the Samurai-style Blades armour in Oblivion, too bad that wasn't carried over (then again with the Blades "going in exile" it is probably understandable that they changed to something less conspicuous)

The Blades armour obtained by the player actually predates Oblivion by at least 1200 years...AngryNord wrote:I liked the Samurai-style Blades armour in Oblivion, too bad that wasn't carried over (then again with the Blades "going in exile" it is probably understandable that they changed to something less conspicuous)

I'm a huge fan of Nightingale as well. If I'm not mistaken, it is the only one with a cape without using mods. I like it with Krosis, but the Nightingale hood is also pretty cool.DikaSmausha wrote:Nightingale for light, and Ebony for heavy. Vampire Royal armour as well, if Dawnguard is allowed.

I was talking about the Blades armour in Skyrim, which obviously is not the same as the one in Oblivion (it does look kind of Asian, but that's about the only thing I can see of commonality)CBR JGWRR wrote:The Blades armour obtained by the player actually predates Oblivion by at least 1200 years...AngryNord wrote:I liked the Samurai-style Blades armour in Oblivion, too bad that wasn't carried over (then again with the Blades "going in exile" it is probably understandable that they changed to something less conspicuous)

Re: Coolest looking armor.
My top choices for best heavy armor would be Daedric, and Dragonplate. I like the “aggressive” look of the Daedric and Dragonplate helmets. I will also give an honorable mention to the Ebony Mail, and the Nordic Carved armor, but in my opinion Nordic Carved armor really loses points for the helmets, they look OK until you put one on, and there is something about the way it fits that makes it look like a really bad haircut.
For light armor I think Dragonscale is probably my favorite, followed by Glass, and then Elven.

Re: Coolest looking armor.
So was I. It's actually the Oblivion armour that's changed - the set found in Skyrim has been sealed away since the First Era.AngryNord wrote:I was talking about the Blades armour in Skyrim, which obviously is not the same as the one in Oblivion (it does look kind of Asian, but that's about the only thing I can see of commonality)CBR JGWRR wrote:The Blades armour obtained by the player actually predates Oblivion by at least 1200 years...AngryNord wrote:I liked the Samurai-style Blades armour in Oblivion, too bad that wasn't carried over (then again with the Blades "going in exile" it is probably understandable that they changed to something less conspicuous)

Which is still inconsistent, considering that in the Pale Pass quest in Oblivion, the undead Akaviri - which have also been there since the 1st era - are carrying the same style of Blades armour as the 'active duty' Blades...

From "The Rise and Fall of the Blades":
So no matter how you twist it, the Skyrim "Blades" armour is inconsistent with lore. The most visible and well documented were the members who personally guarded the Emperor, still wearing the original Akaviri armor

Re: Coolest looking armor.
That's because there is already a set of Blades armour in the game, and rather that create a different but similar set, they just copie and pasted, then renamed it.AngryNord wrote:Which is still inconsistent, considering that in the Pale Pass quest in Oblivion, the undead Akaviri - which have also been there since the 1st era - are carrying the same style of Blades armour as the 'active duty' Blades...
Not really. That bit is out of context, and it's referencing the different methods of operation the Blades had, and that most of the Blades didn't wear the Akaviri style armour.AngryNord wrote:From "The Rise and Fall of the Blades":

My personal favorites are:
1. Ebony
2. Nightingale
3. Nordic Carved (Dragonborn)
4. Bonemold (Dragonborn)
5. Ancient Falmer (the stuff you get from the Arch-Curate in Dawngaurd)

Re: Coolest looking armor.
For heavy armor I'd go with the Nordic Carved Armor (just because of the helmet) and (for nostalgy's sake) the Bonemold Armor.
For light armor definitely the Chitin Armor, the normal one as well as the Morag Tong Armor (minus the helmet), and maybe the Guild Masters Armor.
On the other hand... the ugliest armor in the entire game is the Dwarven Armor, hands down.

@Nokix: I really like the Dwarven armour, in my opinion it's the orcish that really looks bland and ugly.

Re: Coolest looking armor.
Yeah, this one is really ugly, too. But to be honest, I think it's the Orcish helmet that makes things even worse.Nova wrote:@Nokix: I really like the Dwarven armour, in my opinion it's the orcish that really looks bland and ugly.
The gauntlets and boots are alright and the chest piece is a bit generic but with the Dawnguard Full Helmet it was okay.
But the Dwarven armor. Obviously it's all a matter of taste, and of course the ornate machine-like look is intentionally, but still...
the boots look like bell-bottom pants, the gauntlets have this kind of handle on the side that makes the proportions look all weird.
The chestpiece has a face on it's back (a lot of armors have this tbh), which is something that annoys me to no end (but that may be just me) but is otherwise okay, I guess. And the helmet with the mohawk and the mask face, well... meh again.
I'm somewhat unhappy with most of the helmets in the game- besides the Nordic Carved Helmet of course
Don't get me wrong, I really like Dwemer architecture and design and all that but something bugs me about the fact that if the Dwemer society was to come back I'd had to deal with lots of people looking like sumerian mechas.
Edit: Fixed spelling
