Badass or Wuss?
I usually play games on the easiest difficulty there is because I'm more of a story person over a challenge person; and because it makes me feel badass when i rip through a ton of enemies without getting any more than a scratch. I would like to now how many people do the same thing.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
I think it is more gratifying to play on harder difficulties; I like to experience the story, but roleplay as well, and being a complete "badass" doesn't seem very realistic to me, even for a hero. I like fights to be hard, and have a reason to actually work at things. I play on Expert, so I have a good balance of realism, roleplay and gameplay, in my opinion.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
On role-playing games (Eg Skyrim) I'll usually stick it on medium complete the game for the story and then if the game was any good come back and complete it on hard.
For games that aren't RPG's (Eg. Halo) I'll play it on the hardest difficulty from the start. Complete it on the hardest difficulty and unless campaign was exceptional most likely never touch single player again.

Ha I play on master because I like fights to be wicked hard. My characters have to be more creative to get out of a jam vs hack n slash their way through. Plus it seems more realistic to me. Yes, my characters should have to run back in a dungeon to hide when a swarm of draugr are after them vs one shot killing everything. It makes the experience suspenseful and thrilling.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
To me it depends on the game. Most games I do a sinple playthrough to get a grip on the story and explore every inch. Then again I want a challenge, but not near impossible. If the AI got smarter, i would love it. But alas most games just up how much damage they give and take. I wanna outsmart them, not have to pull out my hair

It depends on the game. For RPG's, I tend to play on harder difficulties.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
Too easy most time. I usually play on the higher difficulties.
The one exception is Skyrim, which I change according to how the game is going.
I played Dishionoured on the higher difficulty, but Skyrim I kept normal till I got a higher 2 handed skill, at which point it got too easy, so I increased it.

I rarely play Master in skyrim, but I do when fighting a boss of sorts. It seems like that is the closest I can get to how they are suppose to be like, including the dragon priests

Normal on first playthrough (this is all outside of the whole TES thing here), another playthrough on hard if the game deserves to be played again.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
Nothing wussy about it! I usually play on the default, medium difficulty, but I've been known to filter through difficulty levels, particularly when starting out. I know I had to do this on Morrowind in the beginning - I knocked it down maybe a few pegs - and then, as I get more experienced, I make it harder. Games are about being able to have fun and enjoy yourself, so if you got to alter gameplay to do it by playing with the levels, then by golly do it! You're the one having fun with it, I say. I get frustrated enough with how "hard" real life is.

Not all the time, but I have been known to lower the difficulty and open up a can of whoop ass.
In Oblivon and Skyrim, I usually play at medium, or even a bit below. I like tough fights, but I don't like repetitive sequences. Sitting there for 3-4-5 minutes trying to kill one creature (like a lich) with 40-50 swings of my sword isn't my idea of fun.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
I always play on Normal/Medium difficulty since it is the way developers intended the game to be experienced.
But to be honest I prefer if there is no difficulty level at all (e.g. GTA).

Skyrim - ever since Karstaag been on novice, except when fighting dragon priests or the Ebony Warrior, in which case master. Before on Adept/expert.
Unreal Tournament - Anything from skilled (low/medium) to godlike (hardest possible - like being shot from other side of map through an inch wide gap with 0.01 seconds of shot set up time), depending on mood. With instagib rifles so everyone is one shotting everyone else...
Rome Total War - Easy generally.
Sim City 4 - doesn't really have difficulty.
Forza Motorsport 4 - If online, anywhere between my skill level to being [&@%!] good, to some guys being top 100 worldwide. Offline, usually upgraded professional AI.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
I've been playing on Novice (I know, I stink) because I wanted to experience the story and practice using skills. I think the next time I turn on Skyrim I'll try to play on a harder difficulty.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
I usually base the difficulty I choose on my skill at a game. So for most games, something like normal/medium, maybe increasing the more I play. I'll only choose easy if it's a type of game I'm new at.
Start the groove.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
Usually normal for most RPG style games, slightly easier for shooters (sometimes anyway) and always hardest difficulty for RTS games (once I've got the gist of it.)

Re: Badass or Wuss?
Action games are always on the hardest difficulty available. For more tactical games (RPGs, RTS) I'll usually start out on medium and try to switch to hard later on.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
This is an interesting topic.
To be honest I am a person who switches the difficulty level to the maximum in most games.
But it depends. You basically have two (or more) kinds of difficulty levels.
There are the "real" ones where the game gets more challenging on higher levels, e.g. the enemies grow more talented in battle or riddles get harder.
On the other hand you have what I like to call "artificial" difficulty levels. These are the one where they simply apply a damage multiplier to the player's and the enemies' attacks. Skyrim sadly is one of the latter. And if you are like me and want a real challenge in your games you might get a bit frustrated if developers include a hard mode which basically says "The player does 1HP/hit and all enemies one-shot the player". I know it's not that bad in Skyrim but somehow it always seems a bit cheap to me if you can get killed in one or two shots by a bear or a wolf.
But to get back to the topic:
I loved playing the Mass Effects on Insanity, I'm a huge fan of the Souls-series and I played Skyrim on Expert most of the time- just turned it up to Master as I passed level 50. I just love the sense of achievement when finally beating a boss after 5+ tries.

Re: Badass or Wuss?
Most of the time on the hardest diff. But some games that I've had to switch to back and fourth are strategy games: Warcraft, AoM, AoE, Civ, etc. But it depends on the faction I'm controlling. If I find I can't enjoy the story, chars, music, world, etc at the current diff then I lower it.
Re: Badass or Wuss?
I play games on their default difficulty.
