Bug-doors open sloooooowwwwwwlyyyy

Post by Inferno »

I've playing Oblivion for months, and last week I came across this very nasty bug!!

Every door that can be opened (normal doors, not between cells) and all display cases, open reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy slow!!! Sometimes display cases take more than 15 seconds to fully rotate and open!
Sometimes, the graphics of magical effects, like the white smoke while healing, slows down a lot, and even fireplaces have almost-still fire!!!!

It's definately not the hundrends of mods I have loaded, because even without any mod it's still there! Older save games work just fine, so I rolled back a couple of saves and tried to continue from where I was. Still, after some hours of gameplay the bug appeared again!!!!

I can't relate it to a place, because it happened to different places everytime I rolled back to see what exactly happened.

The only explanation I can imagine is that it is somehow time-based, and after a predifined gameplay time has passed the bug appears... It's something between 306:22 and 306:30 hours of playing according to my saves...

Can anyone help me? It's just un-playable with this glitch!!!! :x

Not exactly a help, but have you tried lowering you vid settings to see if it reduces the prob once everything does slow down?

Certainly does sound pretty unpleasant, I hope you can find a cure.

Nop, doesn't help!
Because everything else is going at normal speed! And that bug even appears when I'm inside the Imperial Shack and look at the fireplace (60fps limited due to my TFT) having a still fire :( So it's not graphics issue.

I have the exact same bug. It started to happen about 4 days back. I wouldn't think it has to do with gameplay time since my gameplay time reads like 270 hours. I wouldn't consider the game to be unplayable this way but it's REALLY annoying. It's pretty much related with everythin that's visual effect. Like magic, fires, doors, and also, the most annoying, those elevators things in oblivion towers. Once it took about 2 mins before it reached the top of the tower.

I did notice that for me it started to happen after saving and reloading several times in oblivion while trying to get the Transcendent sigil stone i wanted. It might be totally unrelated but that's what i was doing when it started happenning anyway for me so maybe there's something there. I don't know. I was wondering if i was the only one to get this bug anyway, glad to see i'm not.

I might try re-installing too but i'm not sure it'll change anything sinc eit seems to be save files related.

I've also come accross this problem at about Total play time 288:21:00 (I've wound the game back to before the problem and keep re-encountering it very quickly).

It has made the game unplayable as all interior doors, spell effect animations and fire-place/tourch effects are now effectivly frozen. (It got slower and slower at each backtrack and re-encounter). It makes moving though an interiour almostr impossiable. (I used to be able to "look away" so the amination was not visable which seemed to speed it up, but that effect now doesn't work, and it sometimed helped it I backed away from the animated bits).

It is definatly something to do with the saved game files, as it is not fixed by a re-install of the game or a re-creation of the oblivion.ini etc. files under My Games.

My current character is a level 33 Khajiit Thief. Just doing the first dead letter drop dark brotherhood (which is where my game has stopped).

Another poster seems to thing this is a data read error from the hard disk/CD but I think it is more likly a corruption in the saved data for the current state of play.

I've noticed a few other glitches such as feather effects not adding up correctly and items I've repaired to 125 health dissapearing "temporarily" when a placed into containers with a large number of other items. (They re-appear when other items are removed from the container). Also Infinate number of Potions of Strong Exploration for sale from the master alcamist in skinrad but dispite selling them and taking the money off me, I don't get them added to my inventory.

Do either of you have similar problems in connection with this animated slow-down?

Have you found a solution yet?

I'm Running on a PC with an Intel X6800 with 2x nVidia 7950GXTs, & Sound Blaster Xfi what are you running with?

About your container issue: I have exactly the same problems. At first I thought it was related to chests only, but items can also disappear from your inventory and reappear when you remove items from the inventory as well.

If items disappear from a chest you can push the "Take All" button to get them back. But no similar button exists for your inventory.

Here is one of the worst variations: The first items in your inventory (top of the list) may disappear permanently when trying to move them into a chest. They don't end up in the chest. It happened to me with arrows several times. A click on them made all of them disappear or just the first two. A quick load and then a quick save may make them show up again. You may need to try this several times. But sometimes you will not get them back that way at all. If you are puzzled: This involves your personal inventory and safe containers and checks were made seconds after moving the items. Not hours or days.

I have found that both of my problems are known bugs...

See here:

Extract....

Known Oblivion Bugs
This is a list of bugs we know about and work arounds for them but they can only be fixed by Bethesda.

Bug: Animation bug, things like fire/opening doors ect are very slow/not moving or stuttering very badly.
Solution: Get zBobGuy's Animation Fixer to fix it and make sure you read the instructions!

Bug: Disappearing items from containers, caused by putting heaps of items into them.
Solution: Simply use the "Take All" button on the container to get back all your items and the missing ones, to avoid this bug again just don't overload the container.

zBobGuy's Animation Fixer is available here:
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=5127

Extract...
OAF - Oblivion Animation fixer V1.1
This program, OAF, will un-stick your animations in Oblivion. All types of animations can become stuck in Oblivion such as fires, torches, magic effects, doors and moveable platforms. You will know when this happens. It is usually reported to occur in games with greater than 200 hours of playtime. This program should not be used to fix anything except stuck animations and can not be used to prevent stuck animations. This program does not fix corrupted savegame files. The program modifies one byte in your savegame file that has been found to be involved in this problem. This solution should be considered an un-official fix which will not be supported by Bethesda Softworks, the publisher of the game Oblivion.

As far as the "Overloading Containers" problem, the items don't actually seem to disappear for good. In all cases I've been able to recover items by simply transfering other items out of the container one by one, until missing items reappear for selection. (Although I've not noticed my inventory suffer from this, I can believe it is possiable, find another container and unload items into it, or simply dump items on the floor, until your inventory redisplays what you are looking for).

I know you're just trying to help, but it's not necessary to bring long dead topics back to life. I am sure everyone has gotten to read your confirmation by now :)

I have the same problem.... sort of im playing the PS3 version and at exactly 314 hour 25 minutes and 17 seconds all the actions you described (fire, doors) all speed up. I have an auto save just before it happens. I even loaded a 40 hour old save but it just happend at the exact same time again. Im probably going to make a new character now which makes me made because I put so many hours into mine. Im assuming there is no fix for this and I doubt it will fix itself. I was wondering if this was fixed be any 360 PC patches cause I think Oblivion on the PS3 came with the 1.2 patch but we havnt gotten anymore. could this be related to the form ID bug cause I dont think that is patched on the PS3 and also does anyone else with the PS3 version of the game have the same problem?

Only thing you can do about this glitch, just don't be sad because i don't think it will be gone or fixed anyway

Maybe somewhen bethesda will create a patch which will fix this
