Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
Orc is my favorite Warrior character but why don't Orcs have any abilities? Is it written somewhere in lore or is it just game designer's decision? Since they are barbarian type they could have like unarmed attack bonus or start with extra stamina points or something. Just wondering
Re: Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
Define abilities. Cause I know they have berserking which is still incredibly badass.

Could be because they were just goblin-like enemies at first?

ah, the passive effects. Also note they're the only race to get free access to a number of strongholds in the wilderness of skyrim

They do not have a passive ability because Berserker Rage is just so damn overpowered. Double damage to enemies and half damage to you. And your complaining about no passive. Trust me, Orcs have a lot better than, say the Bosmer or Redguards in the racials department.

No you didn't. Never put words in my mouth. Bloodkin are those who are bonded to Orcs. Not Orcs themselves.Theificka wrote: Fixed it.

Well, all orcs in skyrim are Bloodkin. Everyone else has to find a pair of gloves to earn it.

But berserker is s special power not passive ability. Every race some kind of special power(imperials have voice of emperor, dunmer have flame cloak, etc) but I am just wondering why Orc don't have any passive abilities or whatever u call them. Seems inferior to other races

I guess it has to do with the general changes that Bethesda made to the races. In previous games, Bretons used to have 50% Magic Resist and Orcs 25% Magic Resist. Now Bretons only have 25% Magic Resist and Orcs have nothing.Street_Assassin wrote:But berserker is s special power not passive ability. Re: Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
I think the main reason for this change in skyrim is that they felt orc's would be well rewarded by strongholds alone. They sadly aren't that popular, but the fact that they struggle to show value is a testament to their history. Though they should of at least added some passive traits if they were to limit orcs, like an increase chance of intimations working or resist disease

Yeah, altmer used to be able to start the game with 350 magicka... (Compared to 150 now)Belthazor wrote: I guess it has to do with the general changes that Bethesda made to the races. It's got to the point where there isn't really a difference between the races beyond looks - an orc mage is just as viable as an altmer or breton in Skyrim.

Re: Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
^it kinda makes the game more balanced and fair, but I still feel altmer get all the love. It would of been great if all races recieved a total 30 to say one(or more) characteristics in terms of health, stamina, and magicka. The orc should of recieved a 30 bonus to health, while say dunmer gained a 20 to magicka and 10 for the other(be it stamina or health)

Re: Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
Orcs have the most beneficial power in the game; it makes sense that they then wouldn't benefit further from anything else. Berserker Rage translates at all levels, and is essential for Master difficulty if you're playing a pure-melee type character. Compare that to the Khajiit who get extra melee damage (which is nerfed after level 25 or so) and Nighteye, which is unique outside of becoming a Vampire, but otherwise relatively useless. There isn't really any spell that equals the benefits the Orcs get naturally, and it makes (most) boss battles much easier.

^Except for histskin which can universally benefit players of all classes and levels. While Highborn and Adrenaline Rush can be very useful in their respective styles. Wait.. altmer get Highborn which actually outpaces the other two and a 50 bonus to magicka
hacks!!!

Well, with 1.9, Highborn (passive) is somewhat less (if at all) useful. Yeah, the stat-regen-boosters are nice, but they're mostly either offensive (Highborn/Adrenaline Rush) or defensive (Histskin)--although, if you're creative/quick enough, Highborn can be simultaneously defensive. But still, Berserker Rage is the best "oh [&@%!]!" button/power of the four, since it's a relatively uninvolved push of a button.

Re: Every race has abilities but not Orc. Why?!
Not really. Highborn doesn't do anything while charging a spell, which you will spend most of it's 1 minute doing, and at the levels where the 50 magicka matters it's still only 2 or 3 firebolt spells anyway...BetaB17 wrote:^Except for histskin which can universally benefit players of all classes and levels. What makes altmer better is their higher movement speed.

Because their power is the most powerful of any race, not adding a passive is a form of balancing.Street_Assassin wrote:But berserker is s special power not passive ability. The in game faction classification disagrees with you.Still, since we only see this blood pact being made with members of other races I'm inclined to agree with you.Anyway...Br3admax wrote:No you didn't. Abilities?Orcs don't need abilities.A warhammer and something to whack at is all they need.

Berserking... cause you couldn't sneak attack hard enough as it was. x2x2x15 >.>
to say nothing of taking half damage. It's like altering the difficulty slider o.o
