When were the voices added?

Post by DwemerInSpace »

When I first played Arena a while back, Ria Silmane and Jagar Tharn's dialogues (like on death, in dreams, etc) were simply text.

But since I reinstalled it (using an "easy installer" that claimed itself to be version 1.07 which I found worked better than other installs) I noticed good ol' Ria and Jagar spoke with fully-voiced cheesy recordings, which I was very happy about.

Was that always there and did the version I had previously just lack them? Or was that added in later versions of the game? Or have I gotten some silly version where they were added by fans?

The voices were always there I believe and the version you previously had just lacked them or it was a installation error. :D

Maybe your sound card wasn't compatible with dialogue, back in 99' i played Blood with sound but without voice because i had a low end sound card...
Kids of today wouldn't understand.

Ya know... I'm still not so sure the voices are there in every version.

I recall, when there was no voice for the sequences, having to click through them. Else they would just stay there. I've noticed some people doing LPs on Youtube of Arena, particularly people who have an original copy, have voiceless Ria and Jagar sequences that they click through.

Arena was originally released on floppies and CDs. Only the copies released on CD had the enhanced voiceovers.

I recently played Arena and I realized something, Ria doesn't talk! :D I am going to go with what ignauskas said because it makes the most sense, also it is worth mentioning I have the free version from Bethesda so I guess that is the floppy disc version :) .
