In Oblivion you could use on touch and on self spells underwater, but anything would be better than current...

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
Well, I guess that makes sense. Maybe Illusion and Alteration? As in, turning those damn slaughterfish on each other? Or a Flee spell. I don't know. Anything that doesn't involve me swimming there with no options when they attack. Not that I'm likely to die, though.Mr.Argonian wrote:Well fire would fizzle out into steam, lightning will electrucute everything in the water, includiong yourself, and ice would most likely melt. Maybe the flesh spells, conjuration would be the same as destruction. Restoration could possibly work as well. So only defensive spells would work, if any.

Or an on touch damage/drain/absorb health spell, with none of the disadvantages...

How about reaching out of water then grabbing them from behind and pulling them in and holding them underwater so they slowly..slowly..drown.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
Other than by use of illusion magic or birthsign, not naturally born with the ability to turn invisable as a race. As for shadowscales, they were simply an elite group of assassins raised at birth then later given to the brotherhood. They were taught the skills needed and tend to follow a basic ideal of assassins, never were they born with all these gifts at start. If argonians could freely go camo, there would be alot less slaves of them. And those that were, u couldnt tell if they were there>_> lore only credits this race with high resistance to their natural field and aquatic lungs. If anything, they are the best at gurrilla warfare as a nationYes there are/were. They were called Shadowscales. For that reason, Argonians should not have any type of camo power.

Well the spells would have some hampering, but then there's melee attacks. Also, ice would likely just form and float to the surface rather than melt straight off as it can be seen floating around areas of skyrim (in some places as a sheet covering a rather large area of the water's surface).Mr.Argonian wrote:Well fire would fizzle out into steam, lightning will electrucute everything in the water, includiong yourself, and ice would most likely melt. Who were all born under the sign of the Shadow, which gave them the natural born ability to turn invisible. Hence why I said lore provides examples of "Invisible Argonians". As a race, however, you are correct.BetaB17 wrote:Other than by use of illusion magic or birthsign, not naturally born with the ability to turn invisable as a race. I'll think we'll be going to Black Marsh in the next game, at which time I'm sure we'll get some sort of cool ability to replace the shouts.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
I pick argonian race jes for the water breathing, usually a sneak, anywhere there is water I use it to my advantage, to basically disappear then pop up elsewhere and quick snipe then back under I go... Thats the best way to be a stealth build is with water breathing coupled with master sneak perk... Unstoppable, I was on expert level and faired pretty well without illusion... But chameleon would be my pick to replace histskin or 100% poision resist plus poision claws or something but water breathing is everything to the race...

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
I love water breathing. Sure, it's not as valuable as it was in Oblivion where I could lure guards to the bottom of a lake and drown them for easy loot. But hopping up from the water onto the docks, slitting someone's throat, then jumping back into the water like the Creature from the Black Lagoon is just so much fun!

Plus i can laugh at those who try and hold my head underwater in an attempt of drowning>_>

Argonians do have an unarmed bonus, but just like the waterbreathing, it goes unnoticed unless exploited.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
just go for a frickin swim dude, who needs quests.
i've made heavy use of the argonian's powers, - histskin is a guaranteed lifesaver, never leaves my hotlist, resistances are always worthwhile, and waterbreathing is great for bounding explorers like me.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
thing is there are like what 3 places with anything worthwhile underwater? And the fact that you can't take any actions beyond movement underwater kind of makes underwater exploration very interesting overall.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
but it makes travelling smoother,
when i'm on the hoof i've got become ethereal on my shout button for leaping off cliffs, and with waterbreathing there's no reason to pull up or veer away from water, just plow straight through, no worries, keep on truckin', i pwn this land.

And because of the new patch water has become murky and I can't see anything underwater.
This is what underwater looks to me.

So there is not much to explore there

Melee attacks wouldn't really work either, go and try swinging a stick of steel of iron underwater hard enough to actually hurt something.Yaije wrote:Well the spells would have some hampering, but then there's melee attacks. Stabbing works pretty good though. No good reason pulling out a knife to shank a fish shouldn't work.Mr.Argonian wrote:Melee attacks wouldn't really work either, go and try swinging a stick of steel of iron underwater hard enough to actually hurt something.Yaije wrote:Well the spells would have some hampering, but then there's melee attacks. At the very least they could've kept in water walking so we're not sitting ducks in water when those darn fishies get hungry!

One pair of boots in a later DLC that you can't disenchant is not what I'd call having Water Walking in the game. I have maxed out alteration. I shouldn't have to carry around a pair of heavy boots on the off chance a fish might take a shining to me!CBR JGWRR wrote:Umm...Knows-Many-Secrets wrote:

I'd rather do it with Thaumaturgy than alteration, then if you've got any followers they can walk on water too...Knows-Many-Secrets wrote:One pair of boots in a later DLC that you can't disenchant is not what I'd call having Water Walking in the game. Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
Water walking definitely needed to be spell, I loved casting water walking, firing a sneak shot at an enemy, and just before they spotted me I sunk underwater to slink away. Made my Marsh Warrior so much fun.

Re: Do Argonians need a new power?
I think the Histskin power is more than enough to make up their racial "bonus," but it definitely would have been better if there was more incentive to exploring underwater areas. There is almost no reason to ever dive below the surface, or use the Waterbreathing spell.
Not sure if this pertains to the topic, but I really think it's the Bosmer who got cheated out of good racial powers/bonuses. The Argonians have made in comparison.
