Re: Dark Brotherhood (Club/Faction)
I'm not sure if there are multiple black hands or just one. I am basing my Statement off of oblivion.
I didn't mean that there would be racial bias. I just meant there should be some racial diversity among the black hand. Some might think there is racial bias but overall there wouldn't be thoughts of racial bias. Like I said there should be some diversity among the black hand like the local sanctuaries.
I don't think the thalmor would spy on the dark brotherhood. In a way they helped the thalmor by killing the emperor.

Re: Dark Brotherhood (Club/Faction)
If you were to grasp all of Tamriel with one Black Hand, you're going to need magic.
How is the Listener going to convey the whispers of the Night Mother to the four fingers if the Speakers are separated by so great a distance? You can use magic to convey those messages, if you want. Fine: go with the sparkle-motion hocus pocus. But what if you couldn't?
Two ways to approach this: the Speakers are far-flung while the Listener stays close to Mother. The Listener's primary role is that of a grand spymaster: establishing a network of couriers and informers whose individual threads span out to reach the Speakers. The Listener becomes a spider poised in the middle of a web, feeling the vibration of any one strand. (as an aside, the Listener could retain the Keeper as an active role, being both guardian and the enforcer of contracts close by to the Listener)
The other idea retains the 'Four Fingers and a Thumb' approach: The Listener stays close to Mother. The Speakers stay close to the Listener. The Speakers become the directors of their own networks which reach out into the far-flung lands. The Listener sends word to a Speaker, the Speaker sends orders down his/her chain of spies and assassins. In this regard, the Silencers may take on an additional role as overseer/enforcer of this network, so the Nails of the Black Hand become something more than just a high-class goon.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

There is only one Black-Hand though. They operated out of Cyrodiil, so getting messages around Tamriel was not that difficult.

Should werewolves and vampires be allowed in the dark brotherhood or is it an unfair advantage? My question of the day. Just give your opinion. Thought I might start having a question of the day to keep this forum going. Not that it wasn't. Just trying to start new discussions is all.

Yes they can, and already are in game.
To the first question, as I said, they are a guild of advance assassins. They have couriers. Even random dudes in Skyrim have those.

You said earlier it wasn't difficult to get the word out. I'd humbly disagree: it's possible. Doing it without attracting undue attention does take some careful effort, lest you find yourself cut off from the Black Hand when someone decides to raze your part of the network.
Hmmph. Look at the damage Lucien's own Silencer unwittingly did when he/she/you was isolated from his control by intercepted dead drops... You got to be sneakier/smarter than the average correspondent.

Saturnalia the word, or the ES holiday based off the word. One's like Christmas. The other, in context, is like get crazy drunk and party whenever.

Re: Dark Brotherhood (Club/Faction)
I feel that the rebuilding project will require experienced, and high ranking leadership, meaning that, for the initial phase, every sanctuary established in a 'new' province will need to be led by a Speaker, and subsequent sanctuaries in that province can be established by a Silencer (known only as 'special emissaries of the Black Hand). Over a period of months, or if necessary, years, control of the sanctuary should be handed to a non hand member at the Speaker/silencers discretion. While this process is going on, 1 Speaker will remain with the Listener in order to carry out their necessary duties.
That said, sanctuaries will need to be handed into the care of experienced and trusted assassins capable of leading the sanctuary effectively. These leaders will need to be trained before the process of establishing new sanctuaries is begun (with their training concluding with assisting their hand member establishing the sanctuary).
The hand will meet monthly in a central sanctuary. In the opening days of the rebuilding project, this will be Dawnstar. Hopefully, over time, the Hand will be able to call Cyrodiil its home again, although if the situation there is not favorable this may not happen, leaving Skyrim as the new center of Brotherhood activities and, as such, several sanctuaries will need to be established within Skyrim to accommodate the Speakers).

Re: Dark Brotherhood (Club/Faction)
In such far-reaching context, no one wants to start as a Speaker.
Let's throw The Avengers movie into this example. No one wants to start as one of the Council. Those heartless [&@%!] gave up on our fun little game a long, long time ago.
You'll want to step in as one of the Avengers instead. The over-ambitious among us may aspire to knock Nick Fury off his Helicarrier Console from the very the start, but no one is ever keen to start the grand play as placid figure backlit on a glass pane.
At least, I would consider that as a stupid- assed decision and choose not to follow it...
...How did I ever equate the Dark Brotherhood with S.H.I.E.L.D?

Re: Dark Brotherhood (Club/Faction)
Sorry, I didn't explain the full thing.
Rebuilding the Hand and consolidating power in Skyrim would take years in its own right. Perhaps special exemptions could be made (such as a former, experienced DB agent who fled after their sanctuary was destroyed or somesuch), but as a general rule, the Brotherhood would need to start from the beginning.
That said, starting as Speaker wouldn't be that bad. They still go out as badass assassins in their own right. But such candidates would need to demonstrate unwavering loyalty, and unrivaled skill (traits usually gained after years of service).

I think in a way Nazir is now the Speaker for the dark brotherhood. The night mother had you tell him her plans and he is in charge of the dawnstar sanctuary.

No, if he were a speaker, then the Player would direct all contracts given by the Night Mother to him. Instead, the player does it themselves.bepeasej22 wrote:I think in a way Nazir is now the Speaker for the dark brotherhood. That said, he is a potential speaker. But he would need to prove his loyalty to the Night Mother and the Old Ways (and completely abandon Astrid's system).

Not that I don't agree with you but who else is there besides nazir to be the Speaker? I'm pretty sure babette doesn't' want to be speaker seeing as she has decided to just follow nazir's lead.

Nobody really. The Brotherhood needs to rebuild itself completely, meaning it will need to either find new candidates, or train new members to fit the job. Either way, it will take years.bepeasej22 wrote:Not that I don't agree with you but who else is there besides nazir to be the Speaker? My Dark Brotherhood character chose Markarth as her home, so you've got my vote. I actually treated the Cidnha Mine adventure as a really convoluted contract killing set up by the Silver-Bloods.Right-Hand-Of-Sithis wrote: ...Although I'm not saying a sanctuary in markarth is a bad idea. But I have to disagree about one point: the Forsworn versus the Dark Brotherhood? Trained killers versus tribespeople wielding swords of bone and teeth?

The forsworn aren't a threat to anyone alone, they are a threat because of numbers (like Russia in WW2). But the bigger threat is them disrupting single messengers. Messengers aren't trained killers, they simply run from place to place.

It's a shame that the "leader" skipped town. I'd want to be welcomed into the ranks.
