Depends, if you think of combat as self defence(which I doubt) then agreeing. But most likely I am disagreeing due to the grey beards wishing to remain isolated unless their master commands them. In that case, he prolly only would do that if the gods themselves told him to act, but even when not it doesnt mean they cannot aid with wisdomCBR JGWRR wrote:Are you agreeing or disagreeing?

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
Any war with the Thalmor will be a bitter and long war of self defence, a struggle where defeat means being utterly anihilated, and all traces of humanity destroyed. The Thalmor seek to free themselves from Mundus, and on the list of things to do to get there is destroying humans and Talos, amongst other things.BetaB17 wrote:Depends, if you think of combat as self defence(which I doubt) then agreeing. Paarthy would act because any other action would result in his death. Assuming he even knows about the Thalmor, which is fairy unlikely, unless our dovahkiin has told him.

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
Well the greybeards are feared by all, namely because they are most likely the strongest men alive, seeing as with little effort they could destroy u but instead must show restraint with their own power. The dragonborn can turn the tide in battle while the greybeards offer advice. If their master himself joins the battle, the greybeards may insist on protecting him, just as they are to the blades. Yes if peace is possible, they will try to avoid any fights. The dragonborn though they will not kill since he is too important and is not their decision. However if he challenged them(unlike with Paarthurnax) they will fight you as if you were no different than a man and express sorrow/anger. Their master though would still be hospitable even when faced with death, partly because he has already accepted his own sins

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
The main precept of the philosophy is that those who can wield the Voice should only do so in times of "True Need". Due to the rarity of times of "True Need" and the nonviolent lifestyles of the Greybeard monks (the most famous practitioners of the Way of the Voice), the philosophy is generally viewed to be one of pacifism. Actually, the Way of the Voice merely teaches that using the thu'um for battle is merely "the least of its uses".

Also I forgot to mention, the destruction of mundas and the lose of man is impossible unless commanded by the gods, and so the world would end by Alduin rightfully. The elder scrolls has this set in stone, that no great event can occur without a hero present. A mortal who walks his own destiny but is chosen by the gods

Don't know, don't care. Not my words. Straight from the Way of the Voice lore page. My opinion is that I see the Greybeards as monks. Fighting only in self-defense or to save another.

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
The scrolls concern Alduin, not the Thalmor.
Any reliance on the Greybeards is flawed, as they will do nothing, or basically nothing, until an Altmeri army is besieging High Hrothgar. Even then they might not do anything...
To all intents and purposes, the dovahkiin, can be ignored - he or she can only be in one place at a time (Well, mostly, there are loopholes to get around that little fact) and on a total war involving an entire continent, one part dragon, part mortal, all badass person is not enough.
The only way the non-altmer races can survive is by them all joining up and giving the Thalmor a damn good thrashing, something that just won't happen. At the moment, Skyrim is set to leave the empire during a pointless war weakening both sides when the human races need to be united in order to survive. Let alone win...
True Need, as far as I know, has never been defined. But an against the odds fight for the preservation of Nirn in it's current state counts by any logical measure...

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
Just wanting to add this because I have yet to see anything like it, since the walls over oblivion have been restored and so deadra are limited, how ironic would it be if Lorkan made a brief reappearance(as is rumored in his return) and ends up appearing in the mist of war and ends up destroying everything, mainly the dominion that stand in his way. Not really going on a rampage nor fighting for man. It would leave him still as a mysterious figure who's motives are unknown, plus it would set even terms without effectively ending the war

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
That would be pretty incredible. What I hope happens is that the Dominion overextends and leaves Sumerset Isle too weakly manned, and either the Sload or the Maormer come up from the south and take it over. The Dominion would have to backpeddle prettty quickly if that happened. The only thing that prevented it last time if i recall correctly were the Psijics and isn't Artaeum floating away in some other dimension right now?BetaB17 wrote:Just wanting to add this because I have yet to see anything like it, since the walls over oblivion have been restored and so deadra are limited, how ironic would it be if Lorkan made a brief reappearance(as is rumored in his return) and ends up appearing in the mist of war and ends up destroying everything, mainly the dominion that stand in his way. I doubt the sload woyld because they remember freshly whatlast happened to them. Best for both to resort to the usual pity attacks. Then again it would be irony if they got invaded by argonians, bypassing everything via sea. Would ever expect? Hammerfell yes, black marsh no

The Argonians don't leave Black Marsh, whereas the Maormer and Sload have historically sought to conquer Summerset.BetaB17 wrote:I doubt the sload woyld because they remember freshly whatlast happened to them. Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
The Argonians could surprise everyone and overwhelm Alinor for an unknown reason. They scared the Daedra away from Black Marsh so i suspect Alinor would easily fall to them. But Black Marsh seems to be neutral so i can't see them getting involved unless they felt they had to.
I think the Dominion will fall apart by infighting. The Thalmor don't like the Bosmer and barely tolerate the Dunmer. They purged Valenwood plenty of times and all it takes is for one bosmer to start a rebellion. The previous Dominion tore itself apart so the current one could be destinied to repeat history. I can see TES6 being about starting a rebellion against the Thalmor in Valenwood and overthrowing the Dominion's influnce and it would be nice to be see what a province looks like under the Dominion's control.
The akaviri could invade Tameriel due to it not being united and destroy the dominion whilst enslaving the continent but i doubt Bethesda will do an Akaviri centred event due to them wanting to keep it an unknown factor in TES lore.
I wonder if the Numidium will make a return and is used to destroy the dominion? I wonder if that what the rumoured Redguard DLC will be about?

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
The dunmer aren't in the Dominion it's the khajiit who are. The Thalmor wouldn't let a revolution stop them - there's been a fair few attempts since they came to power, both in Summerset and Valenwood. That one bosmer would very quickly disappear and never be heard from again if he/she tried anything. His/her entire village or town too.
The Argonians only defeated the daedra in the Oblivion Crisis because of the Hist's calling and Black Marsh being Black Marsh, not because of any strength they had.

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
But if that Bosmer is the hero of Valenwood.
I forgot about the Khajit being in the Dominion and the Dunmer not being in the dominion. If the Hist decides that it wants the dominion to be destroyed, the dominion would be faced with an unexpected and massive problem as the hist has proven to be capable of scaring Daedra away. So a bunch of powerful elves could be no match for it.
I suspect the Dunmer will side against the dominion due to their views on them. I wonder if orcs will fight against the dominion if they are promised a new homeland?

Then it just means it'll take a lot of Thalmor to end him/her.

The Hist wouldn't be interested really. Not without provocation.
The dunmer aren't in a position to side with anyone, they've got enough problems...

Not if he/she is a demigod(as usual or roughly have the same amount of power as one)
Or if Bethesda decides that, that bosmer has a sercet power and is even more powerful then the Dovahkiin. GREAT SCOTT!

If you're implying that the Bosmer would be the next ES PC it would suck for people who don't like bosmers.

Re: Redguard and the Thalmor
The default Dovahkiin is a Nord so i'm assuming the HOV is a bosmer as Bethesda seems to be using the races that the province belongs to as the default hero. Imperial, then Nord. The Dovahkiin is a demigod, more or less. He/she is roughly as powerful as Vile is.
I think the Dovahkiin is just Akatosh related due to Akatosh being in charge of dragons and their souls.
