Can't see underwater? How to fix this?

Post by copykakashi »

Due to some reason I can't see underwater! If I dive in the screen just goes grey without showing the underwater stuff like that sunken ship. Its just complete grey. I can't even see where I'm going. I haven't installed any mods that affect texture. How can I fix this? Can anyone help please?

Thanks :)

Water is supposed to be murky. You can't really see anything until you're a few feet away from it.

There is a glitch with water that's been around since Morrowind, though. Swim to the surface and then very slowly look down. There should be a sweet spot right as your eyes break the surface that allow you to see everything under the water without the murk. It's kind of cheating, but it's your game, so do what you please.

One of Bethesda's patches made Skyrim's water super murky, and I think it also got rid of the "clear view" exploit near the surface. I haven't been able to recreate the clear optics since I downloaded the patches.

Well that stinks. Some of my most memorable moments were due to the clear view. Saw a rabbit running across the bottom of the sea once. Hilarious. :lol:

Ya I have seen the rabbit too :D

But I think what you said is right. It wasn't always like that. Now even if I'm standing right on top of a sunken treasure chest I can't see it. I wonder why they did that. There was this underwater ship right? Near winterhold? I wanted to explore that but now I can't because I can't see where I'm going :( Comapass doesn't always help

This happened in our game, too. But when Dawnguard came out, it miraculously cleared up and now its clear underwater. We also installed "Pure waters" mod and that helped some, if you want to give it a try I see you're on pc.

I'd guess it was done to cut down on the RAM requirements during general gameplay. Rendering a close-up murky blur requires fewer resources than rendering something more detailed with more depth of field. When the game originally launched, it tended to hammer the upper limits of the consoles' RAM capacities quite easily.

(At that time, there were bitter complaints from PC gamers that Skyrim had been "dumbed down" in order to satisfy console technology, and I remember making the point several times that Skyrim was actually too much game for the consoles to handle smoothly.)

This is realy anoing.
Idk whay this is not fixed for me.
In inicial relise all was well and then after some paches is become like that green.
Now after a pause i got Dawnguard and Dragonborn what not and i still cant see nothing.
I may trie on new game but i think it will stay same.
Only way i manage to see under water is whit console TCL comand before i enter water.
But that just kill all imersion becouse nothing influenc you that way.
I hear ther is a seting thet you can change in INI file wer you need to change
c:\Users\<your_name>\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini
you need to write this:
[Imagespace]
bDoDepthOfField=0
iRadialBlurLevel=0

Now some one mention his game got fixed whit Dawnguard but i have no chance to see if that actualy worck for me becouse i instaled all in one time ...

I think is it so hard to get this fixed it just killing my game expiriance and create a fobia from entering the water.
Now my blind eyes see what others cannot!
