I'm sure they don't have the extensive vocabulary that Alduin does.

Re: Logical inconsistencies in Skyrim
Then again, are you talking about lore based Alduin? Or in game Alduin? Because lore based Alduin is a hell of a lot tougher

Well game based Greybeards are essential as is Alduin. So in game the battle would last forever.

It would probably end up being an eternal beat down with Alduin being grounded and set on fire every two minutes

Have you considered that Alduin was not meant to be defeated? The nords in ancient times did not stop the end, only delay it. If the world is meant to end, let it end, and be reborn. - Angeir. From memory so possibly incorrect, but the important bit is the final sentence.Derp53 wrote:It would probably end up being an eternal beat down with Alduin being grounded and set on fire every two minutes
The Greybeards wouldn't attempt to stop Alduin. Or at least Angeir wouldn't, which essentially amounts to the same thing.

Grounded? I'm assuming you mean with Dragonrend. I don't see a way of them knowing that shout. And I highly doubt the Greybeards know all the words you are able to learn. I have a feeling that they may only know a handful or less.

The only shout they don't know is Dragonrend, and they choose not remember it. Angeir explains why as part of the main quest. (ETA - in game shouts)ZackyZombify wrote:Grounded? In lore, they know the vast majority, although many of the more warlike ones have been lost over the ages (shouts to break open enemy gates for example)
In game they only use Unrelenting force, Ice form and fire breath shouts.

Re: Logical inconsistencies in Skyrim
Not sure if this entirely fits here, but speaking of shouts... the game's mention that a battle between dragon is actually a "deadly verbal debate", since shouts use actual words in the dragon tongue. Call me a skeptic, but I don't think yelling "FIRE! ICE! FORCE!" and a few related words quite counts as a "debate"

We are being quite repetitive in this thread
.
More inconsistency. SO MUCH RUNNING (unfrozen) WATER, especially near Windhelm.
Spiders that size with poison. Bigger the spider the more dilute the toxin (typically), so baby size FB spiders ought to do more damage (poison) than adults and giant FB should do less/ no poison damage.
DB spiders are influences by rock chemicals... when they are similar in composition (RL)
Draugr are kept "alive" by the dragon priests according to an in-game book. However, many low-level dungeons lack priests entirely.

I'm sure their actual debates were far more intricate. Also, to beings whose very souls are infused with language and who were born literate, one can say more with fewer words if one chooses.Spelling Police wrote:Not sure if this entirely fits here, but speaking of shouts... the game's mention that a battle between dragon is actually a "deadly verbal debate", since shouts use actual words in the dragon tongue. Not without Dragonrend they couldn't, and they chose not to remember it because of their religion.Derp53 wrote:Well, everyone except Arngeir. The rest keep quiet, but if they just threw caution out the window and all shouted at Alduin with unbridled voices they would probably knock him out off the the bat.

when Alduin speaks to us in the Dov language, nothing happens.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

The mechanic behind running water freezing (as opposed to standing water) would be too difficult to incorporate into the game, I think.Alnevar Odai wrote:More inconsistency. SO MUCH RUNNING (unfrozen) WATER, especially near Windhelm.

... a different painted ground, like the ice everywhere else in the game, shouldnt be too hard. The point was that it snows 25/8 in Windhelm and there is still standing water under the bridge.perylousdemon wrote:The mechanic behind running water freezing (as opposed to standing water) would be too difficult to incorporate into the game, I think.Alnevar Odai wrote:More inconsistency. Speaking of... I never manage to slip on ice in game.

Re: Logical inconsistencies in Skyrim
I always thought that applied to rattlesnakes. A young rattlesnake doesn't have enough control over how much venom they'll pump out, they empty the sacks with any bite.Alnevar Odai wrote: ...Spiders that size with poison. Older rattlesnakes can limit the amount of poison depending on the size of their prey, and it is the smaller prey that receive the drier bites.

I am certain of scorpions (which are the same family as spiders). But... TO THE INTERNET!Dark Spark wrote:I always thought that applied to rattlesnakes. Older rattlesnakes can limit the amount of poison depending on the size of their prey, and it is the smaller prey that receive the drier bites.
" Very small scorpions such as the bark scorpion found in Southern Florida can sting and the sting is painful -- but, like a bee sting, goes away with little more than localized swelling. The issue with very small scorpions is they literally cannot inject enough venom to affect a large human. Think of dropping a single drop of red food dye into a big bucket. There's so much water you won't even see the color.
On the flip side, very big scorpions tend to rely on their pincers more than their venom to neutralize prey as pincers are not as costly as venom and don't require them to constantly replace them. Therefore, their venom is weaker and not nearly as potent.
The best predictor of how strong a scorpion's venom is is not the size of the scorpion but rather the size of their pincers in relation to their body. An emporer scorpion, for example, is huge, but has huge bulky pincers and very, very weak venom. Another scorpion with more slender, delicate pincers is not using their pincers to catch their prey and will have a more powerful venom. "- http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_is_more ... e_scorpion
Unfortunately I cannot recover anything about spiders... so while my argument is valid, it is inductive until we can find some research proving either side.

In Cyrodiil, the north end of it is all icey and frozen.
The entire bottom half of Skyrim is a nice fall/summer day. Even the northernmost frozen areas are barely frozen.

The Jeralls are tall mountains.
And, in northern Skyrim, you'll find ice floating on saltwater.

That doesnt explain why the freshwater rivers are unfrozen and some of the tributaries arent (specifically windhelm). How there will be snow, and then a still pond that is completely unfrozen.Dark Spark wrote:The Jeralls are tall mountains.

Or how water sometimes flows against its source, or lacks a source all together (as I mentioned earlier, Whiterun).
PS: Im still irked that BGS chose Utah to showcase skyrim rather than Colorado... I mean really, have you seen Pike's Peak? Frozen waterfalls and rivers in our winters... but not in Skyrim's apparently.

Re: Logical inconsistencies in Skyrim
Just a little something that bugged me. Saint Jiub was credited with driving the cliff racers from Morrowind and although it is revealed that he died during the siege of Kavatch some 200 years ago, Mjoll the Lioness will sometimes mention her father took her to Morrowind to hunt cliff racers she was young. This would make her approximately 240 years old!
I'm on my way to Windhelm to join up with the Stormcloaks, Ulfric has the right of it!

I was under the impression Jiub only drove them from Vvardenfell, and that they we're still present on the mainland. Maybe I'm wrong. However 200 years is a long time. They could of repopulated.

Re: Logical inconsistencies in Skyrim
A small army of reclusive warriors invade whiterun and attack Jorrvaskar without injuring a single city guard, and without the city guard stopping them. They then manage to get into the hall and attack.
Then, there are only 4 corpses of enemies. Assuming a few got away, they attempted to attack 8 elite warriors, some werewolves, with a handful of people, when Vilkas himself killed 8 in Dustmans Cairn.
So either the group was small, fast and elite and ONLY attacking to receive the fragments, or it was a large group that the Whitrun city guard just allowed into the city...
I know I would have asked a contingency of 8+ guys armed to the teeth what they were doing in Whiterun... but no, the guards are just fine stopping the 2 Alikir warriors. BTW if we do the x10 rule, that's a group of 20 Alikir and a group of 80 silver hand.
