Damn. Rule 34 is now in effect. Take shelter, citizens.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I've made plenty of money off of alchemy, and benefited off of it with custom and generally free potions.

I like doing alchemy to make money but that is just me. You could always make a living as a merchant selling things you find, not loot from dungeons.

My first character in Oblivion was a Breton Healer who wanted to make trade by collecting ingredients and selling potions of health that benefitted all.
Getting raped by trolls and mountain lions colored my ultimate outlook on what could be fun within this world.
In such case, I needed steel.

Its gotten to the point where I don't bother with loot. Most potions I make are worth more, weigh less, and I have a whole lot more of them.

In the old days of Oblivion, it was scrolls that garnered the best return of gold. At high levels, you could delve into a Necro/Conju/Oblivion Gate and come out with scrolls worth a hundred gold at only 0.1 pound of weight each. A thousand gold, retail, for a single pound of magical paper. Sweet.

It's just one of those internet Rules. 64 is something about genderbending and I'm fairly certain there's something out there concerning Godwin in response to Nazi/Hitler.

Innocence, I thought such a thing is unheard of on the internet. Avoid the topic, it is slightly disturbing.Dohvakiin2012 wrote:Rule 34? Dark Spark, your posts are always so cryptic. Ha!Dark Spark wrote:Damn. Rule 34 is now in effect. Take shelter, citizens.

In other words, at some point somebody will use a comparision to Hitler to say something is good or bad.
Generally, it's accepted that as soon as someone uses such a comparision they imediately forfeit the debate in progress, except under special, fairly obvious circumstances.
As to what 34 actually means it is inappropriate for a forum like this one...

You've never seen TES [&@%!] before? I have a collection in my archives. A lore enthusiast must sometimes breach the dark side.Dark Spark wrote:Damn. Rule 34 is now in effect. Take shelter, citizens.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Well of course it does. Go forth and search, young man. Woman? Robot? Your identity is your business, but I don't peddle smut. I hoard it for myself. Although mining (and Ore depletion) is involved, you can make a decent living by crafting Jewelry from Gold and Silver Ingots plus random Jewels. Believe me, it's a better return than running around and selling nothing but the various cheeses you find. I've tried.

Yeah, this is actually the best way to level up Smiting and make a profit in the process.Evil-i wrote:[...] you can make a decent living by crafting Jewelry from Gold and Silver Ingots plus random Jewels.
- Always mine all the iron/silver/gold you see.
- Always buy all the iron ore at vendors you visit (it's like 5 gold a pop)
- Have the Tansmute spell
- Make rings and necklaces, preferably with gems in them.

Skyrim is really crying out for a good cheese market! A deli with skeever tails in herb oil and slaughterfish caviar. One honest day's work I could never get into is farming. Apart from the lousy return, I always find it strange to get paid for essentially stealing the farmer's crops. Okay, harvesting. But I feel like some heavyweight come to lean on the farmers for a little protection. "Nice row of cabbages you've got there. Be a shame if someone were to come in the night and, I don't know...make them into cabbage and apple soup."

Re: Is there a way to make an honest living in skyrim?
If you make use of Hearthfire's greenhouse option, as well as the outdoor garden, taking crops from farmers becomes redundant. I was surprised to learn that you can even plant carrots, which aren't a "harvestable" crop in the regular game. (You only find them as already-harvested in-game clutter.) And, since I built the greenhouse and garden, I haven't had to harvest many alchemy ingredients in the wilderness either.
Your planted crops respawn very quickly, and the ability to change things around allows for frequent crop rotation. It's very easy to keep yourself well-stocked with cooking and alchemy indredients, so much so that I almost regret having built the garden and greenhouse. But then again, isn't an easier and more comfortable life the payoff for your efforts?

Re: Is there a way to make an honest living in skyrim?
Be the travelling scribe. Gather as many books as you find on your travels, sell the copies and live with those 4-10 gold for a day. I guarantee that it is a fun thing to roleplay and at worst you can use some Restoration or Illusion to get your robed ass out of trouble.
I find that alchemy is way overpriced thus you swim quickly in gold, same for echanting. To keep the game as immersive as possible I prefer to collect and sell those things that do not make me a magnate by level 10. From a roleplay point this can either be clutter, books or other minute things but if you aim for the big bucks, than alchemy is your best option.

I have 4000 gold so far on my hard working account. I circulate between novice and master, because on master a frostbite spider has as much health as a mammoth does on novice. I spend my time catching blue butterflies, hunting, coping wood, and harvesting. I don't fast travel, and I only fight bandits in self defense. Having a blast. I'm happy I found a way to keep skyrim fun. I recommend this to all of you.
"Just remember," laughed the Emperor. "You Akaviri have a lot of showy moves, but if just one of our strikes comes through, it's all over for you."

Re: Is there a way to make an honest living in skyrim?
I never did get Hearthfire. It sounded interesting but I heard it was buggier than the Amazon rainforest at night so I left it alone. I rarely buy a house in my games, usually Breezehome is the most I get. My current character has been using the Alchemist's Shack as a hideout. To me the challenge of being an alchemist is to hunt down ingredients, so anything that makes gathering them too easy would just be a little soft on my Dunmer's part! Although I do like the idea of "settling in" after all the main quest and civil war stuff is done.Evil-i wrote:If you make use of Hearthfire's greenhouse option, as well as the outdoor garden, taking crops from farmers becomes redundant.
