Re: No More DLC?
Guess they are working on the next Beth title to be dumbed down. Don't see why they need a whole team to make another inferior product.

Re: Mass Effect
Mass Effect died after 1. 2 was basically a linear action game that ruined the story and gameplay because of EA interference (wanting to dumb it down). And by then, 3 didnt even matter since the series was already ruined and made into a cash grab joke.

ES is the only cRPG medium that offers a single player tabletop type experience.
all except for being real time instead of turn based. for that you'd need to go back to Baldurs Gate or something of a similar genre.
Yeah, but I'm not necessarily talking about the combat, just the setting and ...

Re: The Simplification of the Series, when do you give up?
The magic in magic is manipulating it, not google eyeing over pretty graphics with no substance.
The magic in magic is using it strategically, outwitting your opponent. Being able to lay down a wall of fire around an opponent and then a rune that he steps on once through the wall is more magical ...

Re: The Simplification of the Series, when do you give up?
Spell creation took no talent to use. It is not an argument for simplifying down because all you need was a few quest and some spells. Then you just mix things together so you could kill in a few hits. No you need more tactics to finish a battle with magic. It is true that maybe some actually used ...

Re: The Simplification of the Series, when do you give up?
Was this to me? Bring back spell creation and the missing effects.
I personally think spell creation was simplistic, and think Skyrim reaches toward Howard's goal with the arcane arts. I don't think that's a fix, it's just a wanting to go back to the "way it was" because you don't like the "way it ...

On topic, the real answer is you don't give up. You keep being critical and calling out the problems and not accepting the bare minimum. Even if it is in vain.

Re: The Simplification of the Series, when do you give up?
For you maybe Xarnac. For me, it seemed fine. The fact of the matter is, you are not the only customer Bethesda has to make games for. It would be nice if they could cater to everyone, but you have to go after the largest crowd. You don't like, fine. Saying that because you can't make enemies ...

If you can find it, that'd be great. I was around during the pre-release and didn't hear that, so I'd be curious to see proper attribution, otherwise it doesn't hold water in my books.

Re: Oblivion underrated within the TES community?
Too add substance to my previous post, it isn't nostalgia if you still go back to these games to play in ways that are simply not viable in later titles. No rose tinted glasses in the (legitimate) criticism of the series.

It wasn't a spreadsheet though. 3-4 variables is not a spreadsheet. Not to mention it is the same system as Enchanting. Where was the "We're getting rid of enchanting becasue it was too spreadsheety?"

Re: The Simplification of the Series, when do you give up?
It's dumbed down though, not streamlined. Even Beths PR said it. Cutting a ton of stuff lots of people used (as well as customization mechanics) and not replacing them, is not simplification - it is cutting and dumbing down.

Yeah, it's undeniable that Sky is the most simplified and dumbed down of the series. It's pretty bad when the previous most criticized ES game (Oblivion) looks great in comparison.

Re: what would you guys reckon to say, Tamriel: Total War?
Yeah, TWs have always been about Game play>Lore. It's why you get so many unrealistic or simply wrong units in the series.
