The Ring of Fire

Altaran approached the group with a silent nod. "Indeed, now that Necromancy has been banned!"

[Deandra]

The legionnaire took back his blade wordlessly and hesitated a moment before sheathing it.

Vitellus noticed that Andreo seemed to be waiting for him, so he took him aside and, in a low voice, asked, "Do you think Brutus's shot was an accident? You are the one who knows him best."

[Nova]

I played out untill 5 and then went to my uncles.

Brandrel walked over to the legionnaire and yelled angrily; "Great my horse is badly injured, I didn't get to kill anyone and it's all a big [&@%!] misunderstanding!"

[Gandalf]

Right, ok. Joel stayed here for a bit. And I had Chicken Sandvich.

"I'm sure it was." Andreo said in a low voice. Brutus was many things, but he was not the sort of man to shoot a soldier for no reason.

He glanced over at Brandrel. "Gods' sake, shut up! You're giving us all a headache." He said annoyedly.

[Nova]

Brandrel looked at Andreo angrily, after a moment he muttred something under his horse and went to inspect his horse.

[Deandra]

"Brandrel, you can help burn some of your energy by helping me move the bodies into a pile," Vitellus told him as he pulled a dead bandit away from the fort's wall.

Merilia rode up to the group, followed by two Imperials on white horses who appeared to be merchants. "Akatosh preserve us," one of them said, and the other asked, "Are you in need of potions?"

"No, but Zenithar bless you for your kindness," Merilia said as she dismounted and began tending to the injured horses. The merchants looked over the scene and continued riding East through the fort and down the road.

By now, Salmei and the supply wagon had also made it to the fort, and Vitellus declared that they would make camp there for the night.

Having entered the lustratorium, Alandier wasted no time in looking for Victoria, not knowing if the rest of the group had followed him.

[Nova]

"I will do that," He said to Vitellus "after all, we're the ones who have to sleep on this ground tonight." He said with a smile before taking a corpse to the designated pile.

[Gandalf]

Altaran strode in behind Alandier.

[Deandra]

"Sure, just make yourselves at home," the legionnaire said bitterly, and then he added, "We lost four men to the bandits." He pointed them out to Brandrel and began helping drag corpses to the pile.

[Nova]

"It's said to watch your friends and brothers in arms to die before your eyes, but that's part of the lives we chose." He said.

[The-Shadow-One]

Tireace looked around for Victoria as well. A rather maligous smile was on her lips and a twinkle in her eyes.

[Deandra]

Victoria was standing at a counter, holding a mortar and pestle and chatting with another apprentice. When she saw who had entered, her eyes widened, but she quickly forced a smile. "Uh, hello," she said awkwardly.

[The-Shadow-One]

Tireace smiled. "Victoria dear. You simply must show us that spell. Lets go to your quarters." She said false modesty dripping like venom.

[MARS]

Brutus went to his task, still laughing. His little 'joke' had been a full blown success.

[Eltee]

Andreo smacked Brutus on the back of the head, not nearly hard enough to hurt the bigger man. "What the hell was that?"

[Deandra]

"Er, well, I certainly couldn't reproduce it without Alandier's help," Victoria said. "Also I need to figure out this tincture for my alchemy class tomorrow."

The other apprentice glanced at the newcomers and said, "It looks like you guys have things to discuss, so I will finish this up at the lab downstairs." He began loading small dishes with powders and leaves onto a tray, which he then carried to the basement.

Victoria stared at the others without saying anything.

[MARS]

"Just helping the brave Legionnaires prepare for a potential surprise attack," Brutus replied innocently. "What if I had been a bandit and actually aimed? One of them would be dead. They just stood there, unprotected even though they have functioning battlements. Now they'll know not to do that again," he added, his tone more serious.

[Eltee]

Andreo shook his head. "You're crazy..." He said with a small smile, grabbing the ankle of a bandit.

Alandier stepped forward and cast Silence on Victoria so she would not be able to use magic. He then cast Command on her. "Tell me who taught you that spell and why you were trying to cast it on the podium," he said, ice in his voice.

[Deandra]

Fighters

The legionnaire on the ground started groaning as he regained consciousness. He blinked at his surroundings in confusion and then sat up. The other legionnaire began saying some words about the fallen soldiers who were now piled up neatly on the road.

"Helvius was a good man. His wife in Chorrol will miss him. The had a young son, three years old I think. Baro was the bravest of us, always the first to battle. Today he was also the first to fall. Salvianus was funny, he could always make us laugh," the legionnaire said.

"And he could drink like a fish," the recently awoken legionnaire added.

"Hadrian was a born leader. He always knew what to do," the other continued.

Vitellus gave them a moment to honor the dead, and then said, "May Arkay watch over their souls."

Salmei closed her eyes and bowed her head, and then extended her hands towards the corpses. A gout of flame covered the bodies, filling the air with the stench of burning hair and meat. After a few minutes, the bodies began to burn on their own, and Salmei lowered her arms. Without a word, she started unpacking the tents from the wagon.

Victoria opened her mouth as if to speak, but no sound came out. She blinked in confusion.

Andreo silently helped Selmai with the tents. He wondered if his brother's funeral had been similar...
