Am I the only one on these forums who thinks that the "Altmer" or "High Elve" is the best race from Oblivion? When I read through 'favorite character' topics, the Altmer mostly receives only a few votes, and everybody says "Nord", "Argonian", "Bosmer" etc.

I've had over 5 Altmer characters, all with 100+ hours of playing time. I love to play with mage characters, you have much more options than a warrior (attack/defense, that's it) or an assassin/thief (sneak, stealth attacks).

So if you also like Altmers, post it here, and feel free to say why you like them so much.

So what that an Altmer thinks he is better than everybody else? He IS better than everybody else! He has the biggest magicka bonus off all races and if you want to create an uber character you'll be stupid if you won't choose Altmer as your race.

Anyway, here are some positive points of being an Altmer:
+ 100 Magicka bonus!!
+ They make the best aggresive/offensive mages in the world!
+ They are the best race if you want to create an uber character!
+ Huge amount of magicka if you combine Altmer with the Atronach birthsign
+ You can easily combine Altmer with the Lady, to create a strong battlemage
+ Altmers are BIIIIIIIG and it's fun to look down on everyone.
+ Altmers are noble people. They're rich and have great looks.
+ High skill bonuses for very handy skills: Destruction, Mysticism and Alteration
+ Carahil and Nerussa are Altmers! lol

My Necromancer is a Altmer so I would have to say I like them and bretons the most.

Nords work good for mages too, if I'm playing one that is

I think my next character will probably be an altmer. I have never played one in oblivion, and loved them in morrowind. How do you think they should relate to Bretons? Would they get along well since they are both opf noble background and both boast magical capabilities, or would they rival one another and feud for power?

They wouldn't get along, which is one of the reasons I usually don't pick Altmers.

They see themselves as "High Born" and consider all others to be "Lesser Races". Just too snooty to me.

My current character is a High Elf but ive dissmissed the mage route in favour of a warrior type class which ive called Alyied Lord! I wanted to make use of that shiny elven armour

I only once played a Altmer, and got it to lvl 11.
I dont hate them, but i dont like them either.

I like Argonians much more. I think you can make a much better and more interesting character with an Argonian.

Whenever there's a thread about races, Teinaava is always there with her love for Argonians.

Interestingly, i feel very limited with mages... Same spells over and over again, and the neater ones are actually pretty useless. Now sneaky types, i can get 100's of hours out of them! All about preferences there baslijser...

Anyway, about High elves: They are tall, as you say, which is pretty fun... And the Huge magicka boost is undeniable... However, I believe a breton mage would prevail over an altmer because the elves have no defense against magical attacks. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying i dislike Altmer, but they just aren't the best...

Also there buddy, i think an uber race would not be the altmer, because of their weakness to magicka, the uber race would be... ya know? i'm gonna save my opinion for a different post...

Artillery mage. The going philosophy is that anything that wants to run up and kill you will be crispy and filled with smoky mesquite flavor by the time they manage to crawl into melee range.

Also, Altmer are strong enough to cast spells or have enchantments on their clothing that counteract their weakness, canceling out the weakness and just leaving loads more magicka. I very recently played an Altmer, and even tacked on Atronach as the birthsign, and I had absolutely no problems. He dominated.

I like Altemer, though if you fight a mage it is hard.

I have yet to meet an Altmer I liked...and I have met em' all.

i like some altmer i would like more of them if they all werent so stuck up.
