Hope you all have a v. nice day!!
And KoL'ers, don't forget your once/yr chance to let off a Knob Goblin firecracker on the 4th (still a few hrs to go till rollover), and then purchase your trophy before you ascend next!

I used walk down to the beach with friends and watch the fireworks or have roman candle wars but i probably wont do much this time. I think a buddy of mine bought a basic firework assortment pack or something so maybe well just hang out at the house and light those off.
What is the brits perception of the holiday? I didnt think any other country celebrated it until a friend got back from florence and he said they had 4th of july parties at clubs and he was treated like royalty. I find that funny cause when i went overseas i mostly said i was canadian.

We..
don't..
care!
...about most things, but the whole celebrating our own nation thing just seems a bit... OTT? It's just not a very British thing to do. Whilst doing my best to avoid making a 'political comment', I'd say that we live in a global village (or at least a run-down global council estate) and the notion of celebrating the fact that you happened to be born in one part of planet earth - instead of another - isn't really cause for celebration.
As for the whole American July 4th thing? Until someone points it out, I'm never aware of it - as it's just a non-event for the majority of Brits. But we do associate jingoism with Americanism. Soo... that's probably not a positive light I just shed on it.
Oh, the Overlords who are trying to run Britain keep insisting on the fact that we also need a day of self-celebration (a national holiday on St George's day being one example). Frankly, the public generally shrugs their shoulders and ignores them..
But; if any Yanks do celebrate July 4th? Have a mighty fine day.

Hey, if drinks are being drunk, make mine a glass of Ardbeg's, thankyou very much. Although, whether I'd actually want to toast a nation that spurned our King and Country - with one of the finest single malts on planet earth - is another matter..

...but there's undoubtably some good guys and gals over there, so I'll toast them and not the flag.
Whilst I'm on the subject of things from the US of A: they/you make the best tv shows, some of the best music, films etc etc... some may complain about the perceived American Empire, but if you're British, it utterly
rocks; it's like colonising the world all over again, but letting another country do the leg work.

Grr... I don't like it here in the US too much, but I'm still going up to my cousin's place to celebrate tomorrow. It shalt be fun. Full of food and video games and swimming and stuff.

(for the people that like the horrid sport, football too I guess, considering they always find a game to watch somehow... I think a couple years ago they just watched a game my uncle recorded

Oh you really are a misery at times, aren't you?! In London at least, we just get tons and tons of various celebrations, from National (we even have ANZAC day recognised where I work, though unfortunately I don't get the day off!) to Religious.
I know alot of English people that celebrate various dates, incl'in St George's Day. And what exactly do you can Fireworks day, if not a National Celebration?!

i guess every country needs a day for fireworks... whether it's 4th july in america, bonfire night in england or new years here in germany (or other countries)
maybe national days aren't that important, but fireworks are

Well the Irish reaction to the 4th Of July is summed up in the next few sentances. I didnt even know what the 4th of July meant or was until I saw this topic. It didnt know what it symbolised but I did know it was some sort of event.

Btw this would be the same thing with all my friends too. They wouldnt have a clue about the 4th of July. Kahn probably knows about it because hes been on the net a
lot longer than me and is also on that runescape thing.

Yee haw!
Down in South Texas the 4th is usually celebrated with great enthusiasm (ie. enough fireworks to send a shuttle to Mars), food (fire up the grill, and cook up some fajitas, ribs, and bratwurst!), and fun (beer, friends, and family). At my house we seem to have gotten the grilling part done a day early. But there's a long standing tradition of heading over to a local park and watching the city-sponsored fireworks display (usually synced to music by a local radio station).
I had no idea any other places would celebrate the US's Independence Day outside the States. Seems rather odd to me, but kind of cool.
