What are you reading at the moment?

Ok, so we've seen threads on games, music, movies, etc., but for the readers amongst us, what books are you currently reading?

I'm reading Anne McCaffrey's The Masterharper of Pern right now (I've read most of the series, so trying to go through those I haven't read before), but I'm almost finished with it. (then I'll read an H.P. Lovecraft short stories book I found the other day...Screaming in the Night or something to that effect).

Honest to god, I read that a week ago (for the second time, though). I LOVE that series. In the past couple months I've read that, Dragonsdawn, and a couple other random titles. I only stopped reading them awhile back because I was purchasing them through Science Fiction Book Club and I now own them all. SFBC is great because they have the whole four books in one thing going on, and they're usually pretty good about putting linked books together. If you haven't read her son's new Dragonrider books.. don't.
a) He's not a particularly good writer.
b) He basically destroys the very fabric of the Dragonrider universe.
c) He contradicts both himself and past Dragonrider books rather often.
d) I don't like him. That's a a pretty good reason.
The ones she writes WITH him aren't bad. I imagine she smacks him in the head when he tries to screw with her books.

Currently, however, I'm taking a break. At work (lunches and breaks) I'm usually writing and at home I've spent a vast majority of my free time with either Morrowind or Spore.

I'm reading Treasure Island for my summer reading assignment for my AP english class. It's all right. Before that I read the fourth book in the series of Percy Jackson and the Olympian. It's medium length for me. 350 something pages.

Here's a few of the books I've finished recently:

Salmon of Doubt
Mostly Harmless
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul
LOTOR series [again...]
The Silmarilion [again...]

Books I'm currently reading:

DragonKnight [Donita K. Paul, it's part of a very good series]
The Fall of Reach [Eric Nylund]

Books I'm planning on reading in the near future:

DragonFire [Donita K. Paul]
DragonLight [Donita K. Paul]
The Flood [Eric Nylund]
First Strike [Eric Nylund]
Ghosts of Onyx [Eric Nylund]
Brisingr [Christopher Paolini]
Eon: Dragoneye Reborn [Alison Goodman]

And yes, I like dragons.

I just finished reading Eclipse for the third time... immediately after I read the first two books of the Twilight series... I'm practically dying for the fourth to come out.

Other than those three books (which I'm heavily addicted to) I haven't done much reading lately. I'm thinking about just starting to read through the massive collection of books my sister has from various authors to see if I can find a few interesting ones.

I'm not reading one, but I wish I were reading 2010. I read 2001 and got hooked. Anyone that's seen that movie should read the book cuz it makes A LOT more sense.

I read those when I was younger. It's been a while, so I should reread them. I like the fact that 2001 was practically a book of prophecy. I read that the first guys on the moon actually considered reporting back that they'd discovered a giant black monolith.

I started reading again yesterday: Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle: Day One) by Patrick Rothfuss. I read it the first time about a year ago. It's pretty much amazing, so I'm rereading it rather happily.

I want to read those two... in fact, those elusive books (i.e. my local bookshop hasn't got them) would complete my Doublas Adams Novel collection... then it would be time to start on the radio series (but don't mention the film)

hmm... not reading one at the moment, but if you look next to my bed, you'll see two stacks of books, about 12 books high each... those are this month's and last month's reading (I read quickly)

I might re-read Reaper Man, Guards Guards or Making Money... I'm in the mood for some Pratchet.

The Necronomicon by H.P.Lovecraft
Just finished the Call of Cthulhu
I'm just finally getting around to reading his stuff. I've read a few, but never the whole collection (just finished all of the Dragonriders of Pern books)...

I usually read all of the Star Wars novels, and a lot of the D&D novels also (yep, total geek I know...but then, hey, aren't we all if we're HERE?)

Meant to read more today, but had to brush up on my statistics to help my wife through the class (who's a whizz at math, but not like ANOVA and all of that crap is logical like "real" math)... I already had it before, and got my degree, even with the same teacher (who can't teach, so you have to learn it yourself through reverse engineering the problems)....Like any geek/nerd, I'm good at math, I simply despise it though, hehe.... :Twisted Evil:

I picked up a few Megatokyo at an anime convention last weekend, so I've been reading that (yes I know it is available for free on the author's site, but I prefer book form).

I also recently read the cirque du freak series and Darren Shan's other series the Demonata series. I enjoyed them a lot. I read the twilight series like 6 times. Not new moon though, too depressing. Whenever I would reread them, I would skip New Moon and go to Eclipse. Can't wait for Breaking Dawn to come out and the new Twilight movie. Even though I'll most likely hate it because it'll probably be nothing like the book and I'll criticize it more than I can handle

Lol, I know what you mean about New Moon. The first time I read it I just read straight through, not taking any breaks because I just wanted it to be over with. At least the ending wasn't depressing though. Whenever I reread the series I usually just skip to the ending of it. :?

Breaking Dawn will be VERY interesting.... Although I'm kind of anxious for Edward's book too. The movie shouldn't be bad at all, but obviously it won't be as good as the book. So far my only problem with it is the actor they chose for Bella. She just doesn't quite seem like the right person. They chose perfectly for just about everyone else though. Well... they could'a done better for Charlie too I guess, but at least he's not going to be on the screen throughout the movie like Bella will be.

Ya, I read the first chapter of Edward's version of Twilight on the website! it seems pretty cool. Oh and it's really funny because I'll randomly see if people have read the books because I'll go up to them and say, "Did you know that the only way to kill a vampire is to chop it into lots of pieces and burn it?" and if they have read it they'll let me know and we kinda laugh. If they haven't read it most of the time they run away, but they don't get far :Twisted Evil: . Anyway so I also ask them how to kill a vampire. I scowl if they say a stake through the heart

After finishing (and not really liking) both Prey and The Bourne Identity, I'm back to reading fanfiction.
