Loading Saved Games Problem and patches

Greetings all who are worthy,

Background: I'm playing Oblivion PC DVD edition that includes Ko9 and SI. I installed the unofficial patch, and played all day and all night for months (no mods, only the patch), and never ran out of quests to complete. But then something terrible happened, my GeForce8800 video card died. The PC manufacturer refused to send me a replacement card, and required that I return the PC back to them for repair. They wiped out my hard drive. Now I'm reinstalling the best game ever created, including the expansion sets. I've downloaded two patches, and I'm not sure which is the correct one, but I'm assuming the English file:

ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416Beta 1,118kb
ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English 1,110kb

Here's what I've done this far:

1. Copied my backed-up Olivion directory with saved games and config files to My Games directory
2. Installed Oblivion, Ko9, and SI from the PC DVDs
3. Run English patch, and received "old file not found" error

Is the uninstalled patch the reason why when I try to resume a saved game, I get a warning about some objects are no longer available?

What should I do to get up and running again?

The Official Patch page might answer some of your questions. I'm not entirely certain but I think you need to install the patches before you install the expansions.

I've read and reread that webpage, but its not helping. If install the patch before installing Ko9 and SI, then I'd need the Oblivion patch and not the shivering isle patch.

Would the following two process create an identical engine with all the same components and fixes?

1. Uninstall Oblivion
2. Install Oblivion
3. Install unofficial Oblivion English patch
4. Install Ko9 and SI

and

1. Uninstall Oblivion
2. Install Oblivion
3. Install Ko9 and SI
4. Install unofficial SI English patch

The unofficial patch isn't a replacement for the official patch. You should probably get them both.

The PC DVD Oblivion version is 1.1.0425, and when I install Ko9 and SI it patches up to 1.2.0416

Is the official patch required after I install Ko9 and SI?

The latest official patch is included in the Shivering Isles expansion, so after you install that, you dont need to use the official patch.

If you have the GotY edition, the latest patch comes with both the expansions.

Well, 1.2.0416 is the latest official patch, so you can't patch it more than that. If you had the unofficial patch, though, which is really a player-made mod and not an official patch, you might want to try adding that one too if it won't load your saved games, which is what you said in the title of the thread.

If it's a different problem, like Oblivion won't run at all, then you should probably see if it will run at all before you try adding SI or KotN or any other patches or anything.

Excellent. I'm passed the official patch stage, and I've installed the unofficial patch for Oblivion and the unofficial patch for Shivering Isles.

But I'm still getting the some objects may be missing error when I try to load a saved game. Since I didn't have any other MODs than the two unofficial patch/MODs before, then what else should I be looking at?

If I go to the Data files window, everything is checked (Ko9, SI, patch OB and patch SI), but not the Oblivion box.

From what I have read, we are still here? If you have the GOTY edition then no patches should be needed. If you are trying to install a patch after this that may be the problem.

Actually, you might be fine. Just load your saved game, click ok when it gives you the message, and then make a new save. If you're lucky, it will work just fine the next time you load it.

That worked. Thanks for your help!!
