Im playing shivering isles, and my character has suddenly become immovable. Im just past the part where Sheororath disappears and you have to head to the final show down (i think).

The think is, my character is now stuck. Will not move at all.

If i turn on god mode, the character drags slowly to the left. That is all the movement i get.

There are no animations at all workin apart from jump and move (he takes a single step then freezes in that position)

This also happens to any of my earlier games (reverting to a saved game doesnt work)

Anyone else get this?

This is a character mesh glitch...I think. there's another post about it on this page, just have to find it.

Are you on PC or a console?

First the obvious, you're not overencumbered are you?

Sorry about that, im on a PC.

Edit - I am over encumbered, but god mode takes care of that. I also added the NoEncumbrance mod to see would that help, no good. I have removed all items in my inventory, no joy

Invisibility and Loading Screens

If you cast an invisibility spell just before you open a loading screen door, so that you are invisible once it's finished loading, you can get stuck in place, the invisible timer will stop, and all you can do is access menus, and look around. It is undetermined if you can fast travel when this happens.

The only known fix is to drink a potion or eat an ingredient to cast an effect on yourself. This will break your invisibility and allow you to move.

i found that alright, and cant get it to make a difference. I have no invisibilty as such. but i have chameleon at 100% due to the items i have. I will try again though.

Maybe unequip one of the Chameleon items? It may be working the same way, glitch wise.

I had the same problem when I was finishing the last Thieves Guild Quest. Can you access your quest log, and tell me what the last entry there is? I might be able to find a console command for you.

Can you tell me exactly where to find the quest log, just so we only do this once!

Enter your inventory, and click where you see the current quest. What is the latest update?

Before I can claim the Throne of Madness and stop the forces of Order, I must remake the Staff of Sheogorath. Haskill has advised me to seek out a remnant of the great library of Jyggalag in Knifepoint Hollow.

Then enter the console and type:

setstage SE11 30

If that doesn't work, try

setstage SE11 35

Sorry it didn't work out. What if you reload an earlier save, before it hangs, and try the commands. That way you dont have to do the part where the game glitches.

unfortunately save games are broken too!

Any patches you can try?

I have the SAME problem! I can play my game for about an hour or two and then my character moves snail slow and strafes a little to the left like yours does. I have found that turning off your computer for the day and then turning it on the next day helps a little.

Does reinstalling help any?

unfortunately that (turning off and on) doesnt help. Im going to uninstall and reinstall sometime soon (im going to edinburgh on a stag weekend tomorrow, so not too soon) but its annoying as hell!

This is really annoying. I havent uninstalled/reinstalled yet, but i did try to start a new game, and it worked. So i loaded my old game, and it was fine. then i tried again tonight, and same situation, even if i start a new game. Very very annoying. Trying uninstall/reinstall

Maybe a Redguard wielding a Hammer of Time lives in the Shivering Isles!

Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean but I had to say it for the regular forum goers.

Sounds like it could be just save corruption.

Try using Streamline, which includes a feature to avoid said save corruption. In their FAQ or something related I remember reading that things like this could happen after a few hundred hours of gameplay.

I havent yet had a chance to do the streamline thing, it needs other data files, and i havent had the chance.

However, i played last night, just out of morbid curiosity, and i was able to move again. However i am missing some data files to play shivering isles See Here so it just reverted to Oblivion and i was moving fine. I did reinstall BTMod just prior to this. I havent tried it since, i was just running out the door at the time!

Man i hate these head scratchers!!

BTW thanks to everyone for responding. I love when a good game like Oblivion has such a dedicated and knowledgeable following.
