What game do you like the most?

Morrowind. There's tonnes more to do, the main quest has a much better plot, it's great for exploring since there's a huge variety of terrain, not just mile after mile of gently undulating hills like in Oblivion. Very few things are levelled, which makes fighting more interesting and also means that you can always be much better-equipped than your enemies - that's the one thing that really annoyed me about Oblivion. Daedric armour and weapons are meant to be the most hard-to-find things in Tamriel, so how does a group of bandits living in a cave managed to be kitted out in full Daedric kit?

OBLIVION.

morrowind, despite the fact ive played it to bits and only had 5 mins on oblivion (but i have watched my older bro play it for hours on end :P ), is bland. just plain bland in comparison. the landscape, even the scenic bits, is bleak compared to the vibrant, but never overly so, landscape of Cyrodiil... and the quests are less formulaic than the morrowind ones...
AND the oblivion gates!!!! uber epic!
also, obviously, everything looks 10x better due to better graphics... which is why i have to stick with super modded morrowind... :(

They are both different, I like each one in it's own right.

I have played more Morrowind and if you take it as a 5 year older game than Oblivion, and forget the graphics advantage of the more modern game, then I would vote for Morrowind.

Having said that, I am enjoying playing Oblivion at the moment, and just about to go into the Shivering Isles, which I am reliably informed is even better, so I may yet change my mind. :)

I vote Morrowind for roughly the same reasons as r.

Morrowind simply has better gameplay (the only exception being combat, and since graphics isn't a part of gameplay, it's just dumb to care about them, if the game works it works, and obviously there's no way you can compare a 5 year old game to Oblivion graphics-wise).

And answer this, how satisfying is it to be the Champion of Cyrodiil when you know that the basic town guards probably could've done it better than you if they had slightly better AI? (They wouldn't even need better equipment because lots of players go in with worse equipment than the guards)

I kind of prefer knowing that hard work is rewarded with noticeable differences in combat. Someone that's been training for (game)years should be able to pulverize an average bandit that's been hiding in his cave talking pleasantries with his fellow felons for half a decade with no combat activity to speak of aside from a couple guard raids a year.

And also... even though Cyrodiil has already been highly explored throughout the Ages... one would expect that an unmapped Ayleid Ruin would contain more in it than just a few magicka-restoring stones. Maybe remnants of Ayleid weaponry? Armor? Artifacts? Writings? Histories? You get where I'm going. Morrowind is just way more satisfying to play for a die-hard role-player.

I voted Morrowind for various reasons.

Firstly, I will note that I did pre-order Oblivion, played it for about a week and thoroughly enjoyed it immensely. I have all that DLCs but no SI (mainly because of local availablity). But, after that first week of playing it, and the various few hours I played with the DLCs it just didn't have any staying power.

I will also note that even though I like Morrowind more, I like Daggerfall even more than it. ;) (Though Battlespire will always have the biggest spot in my heart!)

Morrowind is my favourite of the two for just a couple reasons:

1.) Dialogue - I love it, its deep, its long, and detailed. I can really get a feel for the world with the massive amount of text that does not have any voice overs, I hate voice overs, they make the voices in my head mad! Just the pure amount of detail put into it really trumped Oblivion.

2.) World - Morrowind is original, it has giant mushrooms, giant mushrooms. I like it, its weird, its fantasy, new and unique. Oblivion was LotR, the standard Europe with magic, not all that interesting sadly.

3.) Immersion - Morrowind felt more real to me, the people, the areas, the quests. Oblivion I always felt that it was just a game, wasn't a world.

Both are fine games, but Morrowind is better, because it tries to follow Daggerfall, which is always good. :D

I really haven't played much of Morrowind yet, having got it just a few days ago but from what I can tell Oblivion is much more friendly to the common video game user (as well as the RPG fanatic), giving you a main story-plot to follow right from the get go. Morrowind is more for the advanced RPG player who can figure out more complex things on how to find quests and has a basic knowledge of race stats and classes. They are both equally fun in different ways. I do hear however that Morrowind provides a more rich and rewarding story as well as more explanation about the main story line.

I'm still on the fence I guess. However, I'm finding it incredibly hard to find my way around Morrowind. Also, arrows don't always do damage even when hitting their target! Grr!

Boy, if ever a noob topic...
I could write textwall upon textwall concerning why MW beats Oblivion hands down. And I have done, scattered around this merry board in various places.

But through these musings with various peeps, I have figured this; people often like Ob more for its more open ended role-play stylings. Whereas the lack of a cohesive story, or ANY intelligent dialogue compared to MW, makes me cry in a dark corner...

However, Ob has the more satisfying game mechanics - even if it did rip out all that made MW so very special.

The Biggest Custon-Cussly In Oblivion...
The Arrows of Stupidity - which you can't turn off on 360. This utterly destroys atmosphere, personal involvement with the land, or mystery in any quest - whereas in MW, you were on your own, and had to follow geographical waypoints to find what you were looking for. Now that's hardcore..

Also, the politics in MW felt real. Whereas Ob is just far too dumbed down. But I'll stop, because I'm slipping into Pro-MW Rant Mode... and I could pick Ob apart until the suns burn out.. :Twisted Evil:

Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely... Magnus, you speak the truth.

I voted Oblivion.

Everyone says that Morrowind is more immersion, and whist it is true that there is more options in it I never found myself still playing at 5am with the sun rising outside my window as I did many times with Oblivion.

And I just liked the generic fantasy world that was Oblivion, Morrowind was a little too brown, dusty and bland for me.

But don't get me wrong both games are great.

Morrowind

1. Much bigger game: I had a mage on Oblivion, finished in way less than 20 hours, had a mage on Morrowind, nowhere near that after more than 30 hrs

2. More interesting: If I wanted to see standard looking grass and trees, I'll go outside.

3. Some truly awesome mods: since it's been out longer, there are more really nice mods for morrowind. Not that there are no good ones for oblivion

4. Having played Morrowind first, I feel that Oblivion is just a copy of it, I mean, released from prison, given something to deliver to a member of the blades, joining the blades, going on some seemingly unrelated quests (and in morrowind, that epic discovery like the first time you did the main quet), then saving the world from an ancient evil being released by some really powerful being who you then defeat.

5. The inventory system: I hate the list in Oblivion, luckily there was a mod that makes it more like Morrowind

6. finally, The combat system is better in morrowind. Yes, I'll say that agian, I prefer the Morrowind combat system. With Morrowind, I find myself strafing and changing direction while attacking, in Oblivion, I find myself pressing one button again and again.

I'm guessing everyone here has cleared Ob, at least. Soo....

Not to mention that Oblivion even took away your final moment of heroism; in MW you affected the world around you, because of your role in the mythos. In Oblivion, you were just a nomark, blindly following 'fate' for absolutely no reason at all.

And at the last, the final act of mythic victory was handed to a bloke called MARTIN. I mean, come on!!! Martin saved us?!?! Not quite the same as; Nerevarine - Lord Indoril Nerevar Reborn - facing down a [sympathetic] mythic antagonist, and talking directly with his self-created Godhead betrayers.

Oblivion is playschool to MW's astonishingly deep [and fascinating] mythos.

Oblivion's combat was pretty good (I kinda liked it better than Morrowind) but it would've been way better if they did it a little more like Morrowind in that they should've kept the ability to make the attack a little stronger for holding down the button instead of just replacing stronger attacks with power attacks. Maybe use power attacks by simply timing the attacks a certain way instead of holding down the button until it releases on its own.

Gah... Oblivion took what was good in Morrowind and left what was best.

I love Oblivion. The astounding graphics make it so cool. Unfortunately, the game is too small. It is a bit annoying to have to walk all over the place, but it makes it much more real. If only some amazing god of the games could make the graphics as good as oblivion. [Yeah, I know about all those texture replacers, but those only go so far, and you have to search around for all the different places].

I do miss that sometimes in Morrowind though because some of the directions you get given are rubbish. Like when the Wise Woman in the Zainab camp tells you to go to that ruin that's west of Nchuleft without thinking to add that it's also about a mile north of Nchuleft. I was searching the Grazelands for about half an hour before I got bored and found a map on the Internet.

Depends what you liked about oblivion. If you liked the holding of your hand, the hack'n'slashness and the graphics, don't get morrowind. If you didn't like them, get Morrowind.

I loved the story and depth of Morrowind better, but I enjoy playing Oblivion more. So, if only TES V has the playability of IV and the depth of III.. *dreams*

Now that I'm playing MW right now, I love it, it is a lot more in-depth onlore, and has some of the greatest magical effects I have seen.

I played Oblivion on the 360 and got basically everything one can out of that game. I just recently 'got' (let's leave it at that) Morrowind for the PC, so I don't know what to vote for. Morrowind is pretty fun...but I know Oblivion inside-out...Heck, I'll just vote Oblivion. :P

That's pretty much my take on it. Except I'd use two screens and possibly diagrams to say it...

r; for me, The Idiot Arrows of THIS WAY!!! are a stake in a vamps heart for Oblivion(sorry, been watching too much Buffy.. )*.

My greatest, most immersing moment came as a result of tracking down Mehrunes Razor in MW. It took 2 virtual weeks of searching, and - being a role-player on the TES games - it defined my character. I'd go out in the wilds (something Oblivion doesn't have), hit a few caverns or tombs looking for this rusty dagger, then returned to my base to recuperate, horde, and sell. Increasingly frustrated. But slowly the nature of my searches became different.

It was kindof a 'the means not the ends' life-lesson (or a zen problem), for both my real life patience... and my characters 'arc'. When I/she returned with the dagger, she was changed for the better.

If those blasted arrows had been there, none of that could've happened. They remove your connection to the gameworld, and remind you that you are merely dipping into a gameworld. That's what I mean by MW being hardcore, and Ob being beer-lite.

* - it is legally impossible to watch "too much Buffy"..

I went with Ob, seeing as I never played MW.

is MW available for the PS2/3 or PC only?
