What merchant has the most money?

Don't you hate it when you find an uber item you can't use and you don't get anywhere near what it's worth from Joe Shmo merchant? Most seem to stock around 800 gold (1200 in Chorrol I think). What merchant has the most cash on hand? Who gives the better deals and does it make any difference if the item is at 100%? I always fix the item before I sell it.

I find I spend a lot of time taking items/armor from dead bodies and selling them. I have to literally strip bare naked, leave my stuff just inside the dungeon, or just outside the merchant I am using, and carry stuff to and from the nearest merchant (it sucks when you return to the dungeon bare ass naked and there is someone/thing to deal with, lol). Is there a better way (like a bag of infinite carry, lol). So far I haven't lost a personal item doing that trick. However, one time, I did have to reload an old game when the best stuff I came across in a dungeon disappeared! It was deep towards the back and before I could get to it to carry it away, random bandits appeared and the good stuff was gone. That was odd... :?

BTW, I know that it's asking too much, but wouldn't this game be awesome as co-op even for small parties like 2 players? It would RULE even more! :D

Yea, a Creeper mod would be appreciated. Meanwhile you can boost your mercantile by enchanting some items. Take a nice outfit and enchant it with Fortify Mercantile. In addition to that, make your own customized spell with Fortify Mercantile and Fortify Personality. Maybe Charm too.

For my warrior char I have enchanted a special shopping outfit; dress, shoes and necklace. All with Fortify Mercantile. I have also made a spell that I have called Skade's Flirt. Using that the merchants let me invest 500 gold in their shops, which gives them 500 gold more to spend on my stuff.

A tip. Get the Anvil Manor. It's cheap and Anvil is a nice town. The blacksmith there has a high mercantile skill, but he also has 1200 gold to bargain with. Things that you can't sell to him can be sold to Lelles at the docks. Lelles also has a small problem. Do his quest and he will be your friend for life. :)

So there are ways to increase the Mercantile rating but there is no merchant that will buy items for more than 1200 gold? If I find a heavy armor shield that I never use and I decide to sell it, and it's estimated worth is over 5000 gold, I can only sell it for 1200 gold because no merchant has more than that? THAT STINKS! :( And what need is there to raise the mercantile rating if they will offer their max no matter how much they like you? :?:

PS I haven't tried to enchant items or create spells yet. I haven't completed the Mages Guild quests yet. I haven't looked for a list of ingredients that together make viable potions either.

with higher mercantile you can sell items that are worth less than the max gold the merchant will pay, for a higher price.

2 mercantile perks:
Expert: Invest 500 gold, ever since the merchant has 500 more.
Master: All merchants have another 500 gold more.
Last fence of the Thieves Guild originally has 1500 gold. With both merchant perks you can sell your shield for 2500. And that's about as much as you can get for it despite his gold limit, his mercantile=100 so haggling will give you around 50% value at disposition of 100.

i made a spell that maxes out merchantile and charms 100 points, it works nicely when i sell stuff. It is also nice because you can just use the charm in certaint quests and stuff.

Ah! I see, so when I achieve Expert Mercantile, I can invest in a particular merchant and he will always have 500 more to offer. OK, thanks, that's at least something. If that's so, I am glad that I hung on to the really good stuff. I think my character is getting close to Expert now...

Actually, due to a bug, if you spellmake fortify skill: mercantile 100 for 2s on self and cast it on yourself right before talking to the merchant, you'll be able to "invest" straight away. (normally fortify skill doesn't give you any specific perks of given skill, this is an exception. And despite having mercantile over 100, you get only this "expert" perk, no "master" perk - they don't have another 500 gold extra.)

and while you're at it, throw in "charm 100 for 2s on touch" in the same spell to get better prices, seller's disposition = 100.

Considering I finally got into the University late last night, I might be able to make a few spells - just as soon as I figure out how!

Am I able to make spells right away or do I have to do a few quests there first?

I wonder when the merchants start losing money, like you guys say, I always can sell everything at 1 merchant, and I always get paid for each item I sell.
Might be a bug, but I have this with all my characters, so I don't get it :p

Not enough quests? All the recommendations! :)
Just go into the Praxographical Center (first building on the left inside the univ) and use one of the altars of spellmaking inside. Pick spell effects from known/castable effects, set values, target, name and click create. That's it. Oh, and watch the money counter :) Some spells are expensive. (while others, incredibly useful are ridiculously cheap.)

Merchants never lose money, it's a change from Morrowind. OTOH none has more than 1500 (and none legal more than 1200), no more ashlander trader with 9000 :P

If you have the official Frostcrag Spire mod, there is an additional merchant in the Mystic Emporium. She is a Breton that sells some spells, alchemy stuff and the furniture/magetallow candles for the house. She has 2000 gold on hand and has a low novice merchantile skill. You can go as high as 80-90% sale price straight away. You can't invest in her shop though so its capped at 2000 gold.

Get your own Merchantile skill past Journeyman (50) and you can sell everything to her, not just alchemy stuff.
