I believe I've read that Bethesda has confirmed there WILL be a new TES game, but they're currently occupied with other projects, so it'll likely be awhile before we hear anymore than that.

I also heard that there will be a TES MMO, which would be fringin sweet.

After Bethesda Softworks will release Fallout 3 sometime in 2008, they will start TES V 4 year project. So don't get your hopes up, as the game probably won't be released until after 2011.

I do believe there is a post by rohugh somewhere in the general section that says Bethesda purchased a domain name elderscrollsonline.com or something of that nature.

We really don't need any more MMOs out there. There are already too many people addicted out there. If they take MMOs to console gamers we are in big trouble.

I want to know that a game is actually mine. So I can dig it up one sunny afternoon from the dusty bookshelf, install it, and play it. No monthly fees, no hassle.

No monthly fees, no hassle.
You hit the nail on the head with that one. You should only ever have to purchase a game once!

Guild Wars has a one time fee, so hopefully if the new TES is an MMO, it can be a one time fee thing, or have both online and offline, though unlikely.

No MMOG is going to be both offline and online, I bet.

As for monthly fees for MMOG's, having played FFXI for almost 4 years, I haven't purchased nearly as many games as before I started playing it. I pay about $15 a month, but it's still far less than the 1-3 new games a month I used to buy. For me, that's actually been a cost-savings.

As for addiction, if you have an addictive personality, an MMOG, alcohol, drugs, caffeine, adrenaline, you name it you can be addicted to. Offline games, too. It's all about if you let yourself get addicted to it or not. I know of several people that I played with that had their lives ruined because of FFXI. Marriages broken up, marriages almost broken up, jobs lost, jobs not gone after, and the list goes on. I can also say the same thing about many other things that people become addicted to. If you let it get out of hand, it can be awful and ruin your life as you know it.

The bad thing about an MMO is; the story is never that great. For WoW, or Guild Wars, there has never been that much background info on the lore, if any at all. Which is exactly what attracted me to The Elder Scrolls.

That's because the appeal is greater on interacting with other people and gaining levels.

A lot of the story in FFXI is very well done, imo. Not up to previous ff's standards, but still very well done. The history and present stories of the 3 starting nations that you uncover through nation missions, the expansions stories, they have all been very well done, from what I've seen, with a few exceptions.

They aren't as involving as off-line games can be, but for a game that stresses cooperative playing, It's really well done.

It doesn't really make sense, or give a great effect, if you are engaging in some final epic battle, about to complete the main quest while your friend is PMing you if you want to buy a spare armor skirt he has, or if there's a new player asking you where the logout button is.

You want story, play offline games. You want to interact with people, play online (or go outside).

I interact with people all day long. My game time is my me time, not having to interact with the world.

...besides, in an MMO you are not interacting with people, you are being hit on by 30yo men living in their mothers basement. :P

You sir, need to enter world 1 on Runescape, go the area in Varrok outside the castle, just right of the bank and left of the wilderness, and stare. And stare some more.

Then proceed to your friendly neighbourhood psychologist.

:?:

Why, I'm not delusional thinking that an MMO actually consitutes Social Interation... :?

A basement full of mothers? I'm not quite young enough to be scared by that, and not quite old enough to be turned on by it...ah, who am I kidding, as long as it's someone else's mother, I'll give it a shot.

Why get upset over apostrophe errors when I can just get nasty over them? That's what I always say, except, of course, that I've never actually said it before.

Is it too early for gin?

I'm way to far gone to figure out the time zone shift. I'll just risk being uncouth. Cheers!

Already happened. Everquest was on PS2, the new games will probably be on 360/PS3. Phantasy Star went online, as well as Final Fantasy, both on consoles.

I actually hope not. The problem with the one time/no monthly payment thing is that you pay for it with massive server lag, whereas the games that charge monthly keep servers up to date and whatnot. Guild Wars was always horribly lagged for me, FFXI never gave me many lag problems unless I was in a very congested area.

If I remember correctly, Phantasy Star Universe is both online and off. I've only played the online demo though, so not sure.
