...jeff is a Moderator.
To clear up any confusion, I have been one for several months now. However, since several members have figured it out already, I figured it was time to come out of the closet.

Congratulations? I thought we should be offering him sympathy

Under his name is the magical word that says: Moderator..
I joined this forum 2 days ago, and I already knew it?..
Was this supposed to be a secret?

One reason for coming out, was when I changed my name. There were a few comments on how I was able to do that. Although I had reasons for wanting to do that, it was a bad call.
The other reason for the comming out, and not being invisible, was due to several new members postflooding & necroposting. I felt a more visual appearance that the forum was being monitored & moderated, might help a bit more.
I knew it would be figured out by some, so did not really intend for it to be a secret. Although there were some reason for not wanting to be a visible moderator. I just do not feel like it makes a difference one way or the other. I am not about titles, as it is your actions that make a difference. I would rather just be jeff the member, not jeff the moderator.
Unfortunately, with the increase in new members, I just did not feel that it was possible anymore. Plus, I did not feel it was fair to Bear, Codex, & Quigles, to take the blame for locked topics, or other moderator actions.

I don't think you have to worry about confusion, man! Everyone here seems to know already; I worked it out within the first day of coming to the forum, and just assumed you stayed invisible so you could keep wracking up the coins! And who gives mods a hard time for their actions?
(quick guys, take Jeff off our list of co-conspirators for the coming revolution! Make sure he doesn't receive those plans, he's one of THEM now!)

I didn't know. Well not till someone told me recently. It seems I was just about the last around here to find out.... I was aware that he'd "acquired" some extra powers, I was v. grateful for one partics topic he locked, but I tend to notice the detail more than the bigger picture.
I always thought of jeff as a sort of un-official "protector" for uesp anyhow, but now he's Jeff + mod + not even hidden anymore, I guess I'll have to finally start being polite to him....
Doros: already done!

/me tries to look nonchalant as she discreetly tears a worn sheet of paper into small bits and chews them one by one

*quietly slip's similar peice of paper into the old alchemist's special brew, where it instantly vaporizes.*
what revolution?

I thought you were a helper-mod until a few weeks ago.

Would'nt it be eaiser to help a mod, if you were one ?

I think you misunderstood, Lunar. A helper-mod is a moderator with limited options, not a regular member who helps the moderators

Ahh...ok, That makes more sense...

Since this topic seems to be a meetingplace for moderaters. I'd like to bring attention to the enormous tsunamie of spambots. Just look at the memberlist and you'll see that every day 15 spambots register on this site. Just bringing it to the people
Congrats Jeff. If anyone would deserve it. It would be someone with a name that starts with a J

I wonder if we could just delete all usernames that have been registered for over a month and have never posted here or on the wiki?
Posted: Mon Jan 07, 2008 6:42 pm
by Jeff
We are aware of the issue. There is no way to stop them from registering. They are bots, and programmed to do just that. Measures are in place, to help prevent them from posting. The few spam posts, are actualy people, and are dealt with quickly.
It may look neater, to get rid of the spam bot members, but it is better to ban them, and their e-mail, and keep them as members. If you delet the name, then they can use the same name again. Although most spam bot names are randomly generated.
