Welcome to the Character Challenge!

First, allow me to give you a quick rundown of how this thing works; it's quite simple, really. Below is a custom class that I have come up with, begging for a proper story to be told. You will be given a set of rules for how the class is to be played, and all you have to do is play it. Then come back to this thread and tell us all how the story goes!

The purpose of this exercise is threefold:

1. Give veteran players new challenges and give newbies ideas on out how to start
2. Investigate/debunk various doubts or criticisms of game mechanics and skill choices
3. Amass a library of fairly thorough strategy guides for various custom classes

The Rules

- Each challenge character will have a set of guidelines to follow; some will have more or less restrictions than others, but you will generally always be free to choose your own gender and favored attributes.
- Alignment (good, neutral or evil) will be dictated in the class description.
- Challenge characters are to be played with the difficulty slider set exactly in the middle (default).
- "Efficient levelling" is strictly prohibited. Powergaming effectively eliminates challenge, although you are free to abuse gameplay mechanics within the context of your character (ex. thieves don't need the Security skill because the lockpicking minigame is so easy anyway).
- Post all the details of your experience in the week's Character Challenge thread (i.e. this one).
- You can play a challenge character for as long as you'd like, but don't bother posting your experience if you've barely played it (i.e. you haven't reached level 10).
- Feel free to describe your experience to the fullest, including order/choice of quests, personal backstory, and character morals and personality traits. There is no such thing as "not the kind of information we're looking for", so let's hear it!
- A new challenge will be issued every Sunday, but you are free to post anytime before that.

With all that said, let's get to this week's character!

================================================

CHARACTER CHALLENGE #4
"Speed Freak"

You are the unlikeliest of heroes. In fact, you probably aren't a hero. You are a strange, ooky thing that crawled out of some bizarre corner of the world, and you have no recollection of anything what didn't happen less than five minutes ago. You're just a big, dumb eyeball walking around, collecting information for your maniacal (and probably physically damaged) brain to react to. There is no explaination for what you are. But damned if you ain't the fastest thing anybody's ever seen. Handy with a bow too, and there's definitely something magical in that blood of yours. You might make a halfway decent henchman if someone could get you to settle down enough. You'd probably just run off with all the silverware though. Man, what's your deal?

Race: Unknown. Probably some kind of mutant.
Birthsign: The Steed
Specialization: Magic or Stealth
Major Skills: Athletics, Acrobatics, Illusion, Destruction, Sneak, Security, Marksman

Class Restrictions:
-- Cannot use Mysticism, Conjuration or Restoration magic
-- Cannot use melee weapons (hand-to-hand okay)
-- Cannot wear armor or a shield
-- Cannot haggle

================================================

That doesn't sound too hard, now does it? Of course, feel free to ask questions, make suggestions or correct me if I've missed anything. And happy gaming!

Might be goin' a wee bit overboard there.

I'd have to use alchemy to make fortify speed potions. That or use restoration to use fortify speed and athletics. Either or.

Just drink lots of Skooma.

Skooma is pretty expensive. I might have to skip the no-alchemy requirement, but this could be fun.

Okay, due to popular demand, I have scrapped the "no alchemy" rule. My original thought is that if this guy (or girl) ever tried to mix two of anything together, the mixture would somehow inevitably combust.

The more I think about it though, it does seem kind of ridiculous not to let such a tweek of a character tweek out as far as possible. So feel free to mix it up, people! :P

These challenges are pretty interesting, I haven't done any of them though. I will one day! I'm trying to get my character pretty good first, and when I'm bored of him I'll attempt one of these challenges.

Thanks for the compliments! I think most people lack the time to do the challenges, but I still have fun posting them, especially since they've generally received such positive feedback. These boards rock. :D

On that note, I'm cooking up a doozy for next week. Muhahaha...

O.o
A doozy you say? =o
Is it a marksman?
I like marksmen
*twitch*

I've always wondered how a mage-built character would do without using magic :Twisted Evil:
They wouldn't last
