DarkUI Skin!

Hey, here's an idea. How about a DarkUI skin for these boards so we don't burn our retinas browsing them for hours on end? Just a thought. ;)

That's one thing that I really like about uesp, it's not all dark background. I find that harder on my eyes than this, which is somewhere in the middle. Or are you just talking about an optional extra?

Can you not dim the brightness of your screen?

In your profile, you can select which skin you want to have, so it would be optional. Those who like a dark background could choose that, as those that like the lighter background.

However, the reason the board changed from the default, to the light brown, was to make it look more like the Wiki. To give it that, it's all one site look, which it is.

I have to correct you there, jeff. The only options is the uesp and the SubSilver theme. No black one.

What he means Codex is that if we did have the black backround it would be optional and you would be able to change it, NOT that we have it already.

I think UESP's pretty easy on the eyes...if you think not, look at it after this. You'll be thankful.

There is this google thing that makes the entire screen very dark except for text and pics. This can save electricity and I guess save your retinas. Just look it up in google.

What if the text is black? How does it know what color to contrast it, or does it just make it white?

Here's a style I wrote in about 5 minutes to dramatically darken this site:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("forums.uesp.net") {

.cathead, .bodyline, .maintitle, .catbottom, form table, label font, body {

color: #AADDDD !important;
background-color: #000000 !important;
background-image: none !important;
border-color: #2369AE !important;
}

.row1, .row2, .row3, .row3right, .postbody, .postdetails, .genmed, .name, .thcornerl, .thcornerr, .thtop, .thtop {
color: #AADDDD !important;
background-color: #100040 !important;
border-color: #2369AE !important;
}

.quote, .spacerow, .thleft, .thright, .thhead, .helpline, .catleft, .catright, .rowpic {
color: #AADDDD !important;
background-color: #113355 !important;
border-color: #3399FF !important;
}

a {
color: #3399FF !important;
}

.forumline {
background-color: #2369AE !important;
border-color: #110055 !important;
}

.gen, .gensmall, .nav, .topictitle {

color: #AADDDD !important;
}

iframe {
display: none;
}

hr {
border-color: #2369AE !important;
}
}

It's far from perfect since I didn't bother testing it out much, but at least it converts the site to a dark cool theme. Also it doesn't work for the wiki...

Actually, dark colors on a monitor/tv screen will burn your retinas more because the dark colors trick your eyes into opening wide to let in more light, as the eye usually does. This allows the light to come in on a huge scale, whether you wear sunglasses or not 8)

That wasn't wikipedia

Well, a bright screen will burn your computer monitor. Which do you value more, your eyesight or 200 bucks?

Yes, You'll need the stylish add-on for it to work. I didn't change any of the images, so it doesn't look that great, but it was meant as a quick demo of how you could change the site with css, not something I really intended for people to use long term.

Here's a quick look of how the main page looks with the styles:

Edit: Photobucket took it upon themselves to resize the image, so the resolution is terrible, but I hope you get the general idea. Not only that but they increased the file size from 65.8 KB to 173 KB. :roll:
