Trouble with Hlaalu: Disguise quest...

At some point, I must have sold the Felsen Sethandus helm that Nileno Dorvayn is supposed to give for the House Hlaalu: Disguise Quest.

I've been all over Vvardenfell trying to find the shop I sold it to, but no luck.

Is there any way to get the helm back?

If not, can I still complete the main quest?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Use the console

Hopefully you haven't given up after waiting so long, but I believe I've got the answer right here in the form of a console command.

Player->AddItem "bonemold_gah-julan_hhda" 1

And that should do it. As far as I can tell, the same cheat works if you're a female character; despite the difference in the NPC's name, it's the same item.

How incredibly helpful.

Apart from the console, no. Being an XBox user, I am used to being cautious about where I put what and who I kill, because the console isn't an option.

With named stuff like that, bung it all in a room somewhere until you need it. They're not really worth selling anyway.

If you really need gold, however, only sell your stuff to people in one town (ie Balmora, Ald Ruhn). That way, you know that any item you sold is going to be in the inventory of one of the merchants in that town.

Then you're screwed, you broke the quest. Happens in real life too - you sell/lose/break something you would need later and there's no replacement. And no console to materialise the item. Bummer.
At least on the console you can start the game from scratch and not do it again.

I am also an xbox user and practice something similar to what you are talking about. On a side note though, I think the NPC's inventory might reset after a lengthy period of time in game. Im not sure about this, but I remember selling a lot of goods to the lady in the armory of the bazaar in mournhold, and them dissapearing some time later.

Hm... can't say I've experienced that. I don't really go and check anymore, though, because I know which items are quest ones nowadays. I'll keep an eye out, though.
