Travelling to Kvatch/ Skingrad looking for Martin, the emperor's heir, I found three dead people lying near a crossroad north from Fort Virtue. Two of them were imperial guards (one was a horse men, the animal layed dead before him). the third body was that of Alval Uvani.
I made some research and found that Alval Uvani was a sort of very arrogant mage in touch with some dark sect. It seems also that he used travelling.
If there was a quest attached to this NPC, I fear it is over.
The worst in it is that I don't know what exactly happened at this crossroad. Did ULVANI have a fight against a least three Imperial guards ? And why ?
Did he encounters some errant monster(s) and the two Imp. guards passing nearby were involved to. In this case, the body of the monster is not here so I supposed it's already alive... I'm only at level 10 and I don't want to deal with something able to kill two imp. guards and a mage....
Did somebody have had similar experiences ?

Alval Uvani is involved in the later part of the Dark Brotherhood Questline. Which means you will not be able to become the highest rank, Listener.

Isn't he one of your targets? If so, you still can become listener. It's just one kill you don't have to worry about anymore.

yeah that's what happened when i played through first time, he picked a fight with some random creature and i may have kinda accidently slashed him trying to save him ....what can i say it was my first time playing lol

so i worried when i got to that quest, but it just brought up the complete message straight after. so i guess you don't need to worry lol

Okay, good to know. I was wondering about that, but never had that problem, so didn't know.

Strange that they didn't have him essential until the quest started.

i'm glad he's not essetnial, i've done dark bortherhood with three chars and never had to kill him myself.

Out of three tries, he's already dead by the time you get to that quest???

I've done it five times, and he was alive all five times... Until I killed him of course.

Don't you just hate it when a quest character dies mysteriously and you can't complete the quest because that idiot of an NPC dies prematurely. But at the same time it can be very interesting because you then find yourself wanting to investiage how this person was killed, why and what was the motive.

I know. Interesting eh?

But seriously, don't worry about the fact Alval's dead. When you get to that quest, the game'll treat it like you've killed him.

I always like to kill the arrogant Dark Elf the first chance I get. Try turning my bones to ashes now, freak!

Anyway It sucks for me that ULVANI died not under my blade/spells.
On top of that I fear that investigating about his murder an d those of the two imp. guards is not under my juridiction.
So shall I call the Experts from Skingrad or those from Imperial City ?

yeah i had a similar experience, but not with that quest. It was the daedric quest where i had to crash a dinner party. The countess never showed up, and I waited for about an Oblivion week. Anyway, I eventually found out she traveled from city to city, so she is probably lying in a gutter somewhere...

I have never had a glitch in the Dark BrotherHood quests... Cept when shadowmere started running away from me

Ulvani is not much. this FREAKING countess of leyawinn goes on the road every month (to Chorrol i think) and everytime i pass by her during this time she's on a fight with a random monster... and no bodyguards...she died. annoying cause it prevented me from doing the quest for Sanguine...

i thought the countess was essential.

upon further review, shes essential to the end of adharjis heirloom.

alval ulvani is the first person i killed in oblivion. i was randomly walking and he said something about "come closer to me and i will turn your bones into dust"

so i ripped him in half

The exact same thing happened to me once. I wasn't aware of who she was, so I just laughed. Then I went to loot her body and saw it was her. I didn't think anything of it even then until Sanguine.

For me it was Regner. I was walking through Bruma when he randomly insulted me as I walked past him sitting outside his house. I don't remember what he said, but at the time it [&@%!] me off enough so that that night I broke into his house, concealed myself within the shadows on the stairs, and shot an arrow through his wife's heart as they slept. He went to get out of bed and I sent another through the side of his head.
