Try reinstalling error 0 usually is the result of a bad install.

The reinstall does not work, me and chaos are on the same computer, I have tried the minimum, medium, and large install sizes.

The original post says windows 98. Chaos and Guten Tag, you are on the same computer but it might help to provide some specs. Another idea, might be trying to get a hold of Magnus, I believe he is knowledgable on Daggerfall, but he's not on the forums much.

Where would I find out what the specs are?

Thanks for the article Bear, this may be what is wrong
i) Users with MS-DOS 6.0 and 6.1 may experience crashes to DOS with a message saying "Daggerfall has encountered an internal error at 0. The error reported was: Error reading faction file
I probally should have read about the demo before I downloaded it from there. How do I find out what version of MS-DOS I am using and how would I update it?

windows 95 came out with MS DOS 7.0, so I would say if you have it at all you have this version or better. I am really unsure as I skipped a few years with computer systems as my original was a dos system and didn't get a new computer until Windows ME. I haven't found much info about dos after windows 95 though.

Windows ME

Now how was your experience with it? I know I had my share of swearing in front of the computer back then

I absolutely hated ME, and was very glad when XP came out. I am not excited about Vista at all either. I think I'll stay with XP for awhile.
I am sorry to Guten Tag and Chaos, I just don't know enough about daggerfall. My brother had given me the game, but I couldn't get it to work(didn't know anything about DOS BOX then), so I sold it at a rummage sale for 50 cents or something.

did you try the suggestion of updating your CD-Rom driver?

How would I update the driver?

start, settings, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, locate CD- ROM, right click, update driver. I hope that is how it works.

Sorry, but other than physically sitting down at your computer I don't see where I can be of anymore help, and I'm not sure that would help.

Thanks for the help. We are going to stop trying to get the demo to work, our computer is old and will probably stop working right at some point (it wouldn't be the first, secound, third, or fourth time).

Aha, hello.
Have you attempted to reboot in to MS-DOS mode and run it from there? That fixed the problem for me, it has something to do with Windows. Also, make sure you have enough free RAM for it (through the .exe settings.) See if that helps!
