Old English! Anglo-Saxon! You're a bold one!

I'm curious, why the interest in that? I am all for it, mind you. I studied linguistics the first go around in college and have quite a few friends from classics, so anytime I see someone with a unique interest, some old part of me gets excited. (Afraid I wouldn't be much help to you: I did my rounds in Arabic and Turkish.)

I love history, and AS is interesting as I live in one of the former AS Kingdoms, so it would be interesting to read as such. Also, learning Latin would also be good when learning history.

Fantastic. I wish you luck! I spent exactly one class in Old English before I dropped it, haha. Not one of my finer moments. :P

Leroy! Well met!

And yes, funny you remember that - I did. It wasn't for anything fancy or impressive, but I do remember my oldest brother lecturing me over how stupid I was for turning it down. I don't regret it, though.

I should think those are probably two languages they still seek. Arabic is complex given all the dialects and phonetics, and was challenging but rewarding (I hardly remember much of it, given the severe lack of Arabic speakers I know), but I always advocate for learning Turkish. It has a very straightforward system, the phonetics are unique to native English speakers but not completely foreign, and there are no irregularities in the language system, so it's really straightforward! Plus, there is nothing sweeter than Turkish hospitality. Been there twice and always had a great time, and Turkish folks are very genuine and kind and flattered to find someone who knows a few licks of the mother tongue.

I would like to pick up a new language, but I think this time I would do a Romance language or some sign. I learned a bit of sign language for my job (American Sign Language and Exact English Signing), but not enough to get by, so I think I might go with that. The possibilities are endless, though! What a great world we live in.

Haha yeah I imagine you getting the job offer in a dramatic way.

Dramatic? Oh dear goodness me, no. Would you believe it was just a plain old letter? :P I'm sure universities probably have big lists of students enrolled in such classes and the letter goes out to everyone.

I'll probably have Old English classes later this year (it's a prerequisite to get a degree in English philology), and I'm always more than happy to share my notes!

You're welcome! And it'll be sir, but one can be anything in the internet. Who knows if I'm not a kwama forager in reality?

I'm not sure whether it'd exactly be learning the full Old English language or bits of it with information about how it evolved into Modern English, but I'm definitely going to post notes in this thread. My handwriting is of questionable quality, so I'll most probably rewrite it on my laptop.
