Freeing Derkeethus

Hello,
I'm having a bit of trouble on my PS4 version of Skyrim, and wondered if I could get some assistance, please ? Earlier today, I went to that one cave where the Argonian Derkeethus is in a caged in area, and I've been trying to get the guy to follow me, yet he will only follow me so far before he quits. I'be been thinking of a theory, but not sure if it works - and wanted to ask about it before I tried to attempt it in the future : Does anyone know if the full Bend Will shout will work on Derkeethus ? I already have 3 Blades recruits, so recruiting him is out of the question (Unless the game LETS me take one of them out and replacing him with Derkeethus possibly). Thank you and take care !!!!
Happy 2018

Do you mean he won't even follow you out of the cave?
If so then according to the wiki there is a known bug here:
Derkeethus may occasionally follow you to the door of the cave but refuse to exit. Reloading older save points may not fix this issue.
This bug is fixed by version 1.3.1 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
Waiting for the dungeon content to respawn may fix this.
A workaround for this problem is to go outside the cave, open the console and type prid 0001B08D and moveto player and then talk to him, this will finish the quest.
Another workaround is to try to see if he will follow you through the second door out; both lead to the same entrance, but only one leads out.
So there's a couple of things for you to try. I've never had that problem myself but if you want to try Bend Will then sure give it a go. Also Unrelenting Force is sometimes a good one to use on NPCs that get 'stuck' or are non-responsive.
If you mean he won't follow you generally then there's also another bug:
If married or recruited for the Blades, he will attempt to return to Darkwater Crossing every day, thus making him very hard to get hold of, since all purchasable homes and Sky Haven Temple are quite a long distance away from Darkwater Crossing. This bug is fixed by version 1.1 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
I imagine you'd just need to ask him to follow you again if that happens so Bend Will would be unnecessary...? But anyway save your game and see what happens.
Happy 2018 to you too.

I figured it out a while after posting that. Thank you so much for the idea though and I'll keep that in mind if I ever run across that problem again. Got a different problem though - on the quest to recruit new Blades, I saw on the wiki that I can get Freya of the Skaal into the Blades, but with a known glitch where if the Dragonborn comes up to Esbern, he'd automatically give the quest to kill Paarthurnax, and - personally, I don't want to kill the dragon, and was wondering - with that quest to look for Blades recruits, isn't it okay to keep it in the quest log until I get ready to do, and finish, the Dragonborn DLC ? If so, I may postpone looking for Blades until I have done the Dragonborn quest-line. Assuming Freya can be recruited, then I can put her, Derkeethus and Mjoll the Lioness in as Blades.

Just thinking, I guess.
