Favorite Quest/Questline and Why

Post your favorite quest or questline (other than Main Quest or Civil War) and an explanation as to why it's your favorite.

Mine is The Companions because I have a strong sense of Justice and Honor. They are one of the most respectable factions in the game in my opinion.

Yes, in the Vanilla game. I might make another thread later for favorite quest mods

I like the concept and the idea they had for the main questline of the Companions but it was badly executed. 6 quests and the pace is quicker then the Neveraine on a ton of speed potions. It has a few plot holes. How did the Silverswords get into Whiterun and defeat the Companions? Assuming that they relied on numbers to overwhelm them, it is hard to believe that Whiterun's guards would let a huge force in. The whole forced Werewolf aspect was just unneccessary as a mandatory thing. Heck, it could have been something else or a secret order based in Whiterun or something else. What's wrong with just a badass guild of badass beards doing badass things?

The College of Winterhold is one of my favourite questlines but it suffers from "Wait, that's it!?" It stops when it feels like it's just starting and worse, the Galdur Legend is tied into it. Same with the darn mainquest. Couldn't they have had the dialogue option of just needing to speak to the orc in the library without it starting First Lessons? It can really ruin immersion for warriors.

Lost to the Ages. It's a fetch quest but it is a very interesting one and is done in way that comes off as natural. Exploring Dwemer Ruins may be something folks hate but I like and the only thing I can criticise heavily is the Forgemaster. It's a Dwemer Centurion that rises out of molten metal. It is generic. It should have either been twice the size of a normal centurion with a different colour, made out of pure Aethrium and has unique attacks or an Aethurium one that is a puzzle boss. The entire sequence leading up to it is darn good. Dwemer spiders, Spheres coming out of the goshdarn walls! Just you and Katria. The boss? what a let down. The Aethirum forge limiting you to one item is quite surprising as this is Skyrim and it is too generous with stuff at times. Though, I do wish that it had the option of a sword.

I don't like the execution of it and the entire stupid reason "But Dovaaaahkiiiiin, it's the Thalmor! It's the THAAALMOOOOR! Probably." being behind it existing. The concept of it does intrigue me. Diplomatic Immunity. The quest itself sucks in the game as it falls apart after Malborn gets you into the corridor but the concept had real potential. It should have been a speech heavy one for Altmers/Bosmer, Humans have no chances for bluffing their way and if you be violent, it increases the risk of the dossiers being moved or destroyed. The Embassy should have been bigger along with a ton of choices. E.g. "This may be hard to believe but I'm the Dragonborn. I want to discuss the Dragons with you to help my efforts." That could lead to a few minor quests of help the Thalmor investigate it and informing...... Delphine. .......

Of that. The only purpose the entire quest has in the main quest is just to push us towards Esbern and even then, there are so many other ways of doing it. Heck, I could see Esbern reaching out to the Greybeards, both sides put aside their differences and Alduin wall occurs.

The next quest is just as pointless. Fortunately, it does stop there with the mandatory Blades stuff and Blackreach, i am eager to see again. I've not completed the game more then once and that was years ago. I am eager to explore it. I love that the Elder Scroll we need is housed in the biggest Dwemer ruin(presumably) in Skyrim and that it has a hidden Dragon battle. Granted, by that point, most folks are no longer thrilled with dragon fights or not as pumped as they used to be due to Dragons being demoted to "But for me, it was Tuesday" status.

Dragon Rising. First Dragon fight in the game(Unless you do Dawnguard first) but it was simple, it could have used a lot more guards but it was a techinical reason and it shows off the Dragon. Though, it really should have an automatic kill cam for all melee fighters. That would be the perfect way to do so.

The Galdur Legend. Aside from Saarthal being tied into the COW, it is a very neat questline and goes into some detail about early Nord politics along with being fairly unique with the boss fight. Granted, it's the usual keep killing it but it does do just enough to be different.

For me to decide at this point is a challenge.
My main character, Ursula is a spell sword, so I will say Break of Dawn for her.
She loves to collect treasure and that place is loaded. I prefer re killing Drauger, to bandits. Also it was an early quest so everything was new and a challenge for me/her. Hard to beat the ending too flying into the sky then being awarded Dawn Breaker. Awesome!!
Then next to that, I love Blackreach. So the nod to Oblivion (Sinderion) was cool and I can get tons of treasure by mining and killing Falmer. The Crimson nirnroot was ad nauseum but I did love to mix it and it got you traversing all over the place into danger. The quest to get in there was not my favorite thougholiday, but long and challenging with lots of treasure.
Did I say She is a hoarder?
As for the Companions, that was good to have free lodging, I agree that The have to become a werewolf was a pain. I used a different character to do that quest and it was enjoyable. My other Characters went with Farkas as a follower. My Khajiit married him. (I LOVE HIS VOICE).

I like your ideas about what Diplomatic Immunity could've been, specifically the part about informing the Thalmor that you are Dragonborn so that everyone can come to a truce to eliminate the dragon threat including the Thalmor and The Blades. Make a sort of semi-pacifist route for main quest, would be nice for speech oriented characters too.

I think TES in its current format ought to be working off the FONV model, plus a more engaging combat system. Quests in Skyrim, as in Oblivion, Daggerfall, FO3, and, to a lesser extent, Morrowind, are all afflicted by linearity. TES is meant to be choose-your-own-path i.e. non-linear, but uses dialogue trees, which are inherently linear. The best ugly compromise - and there are only ugly compromises - is what I'd call "multilinearity", as in FONV, where the player is given an additional option if the player has ticked a certain box, e.g. they took a certain action, or passed a certain skill check.

Sometimes I wonder what Obsidian could do with TES... Great things I'd bet..

I love "Lost to the Ages." Great storyline, totally unexpected, awesome reward. I also actually love that you can only forge one item - it makes you have to choose wisely!

I'm pretty sure I have a favourite quest. I just don't remember it. I did enjoy No One Escapes Cidhna Mine. 'Cause it's unique.

I liked the Thieves Guild questline, despite the fact that there was only one way to do everything (you have to fight Mercer, you have to return the skeleton key, you have to join Nocturnal...). I had fun doing it. I liked seeing the place improve over time. And seeing my collection of interesting objects grow. And gaining reputation in different holds and everything.

I also like the Bards College quests. Because, I don't know, it's different. You get to help out some people who prefer making music to fighting; and put on a festival with free food and everything! And besides, who doesn't want to be a bard? That was the one annoying thing about it, though. You had to just pretend to be a bard, because apparently the people who made the game felt like breaking all the hearts of people who wanted to be official members of the College. I just want to be able to pick up a lute and play a song for the patrons of a tavern. Is that too much to ask?

Oh, thank you very much! That looks like the ideal mod. But check out the systems I play on. I'm a console gamer, so no mods for me. I've just gotta keep on pretending.

I only ever saw someone else playthrough the Dragonborn DLC, and at first I thought it was lame and anticlimactic. Then I realized, it was because the player I was watching did literally every single side quest possible on Solstheim and dragged it out for as long as possible before battling Miraak. Now having finally played through it myself, and working my way straight through the main Dragonborn questline, I absolutely loved it. The battle with Miraak felt so immense and awesome! Definitely one of my new favorite quests.
