Toggle to windows?

I tried to search this but with no luck. How can I toggle from the game to my desktop? I want/need to access a location map outside of the game without having to close and restart the game every time.

Well, you can of course configure the game to run in a window rather than fullscreen and simply ALT+TAB in and out, of course. What version of Windows are you using?

On Windows 7, I'm having problems alt-tabbing oblivion, it sometimes becomes unresponsive after going in again...

That's always been a problem for me, as far back as Vista. I find that pausing via bringing up the console is more stable than alt-tabbing from the regular pause menu. Alt-tabbing with the game unpaused is almost guaranteed to break it, in my experience.

I'm still on Windows Explorer, and Alt Tab only seems to work if I have another program open (e.g. my browser). It will not go to my desktop if no other programs are open. Yesterday, it eventually made my Oblivion program unresponsive, but I was going back and fourth checking maps to see what locations I have missed. I am at 365 found on plain Oblivion w/ no Shivering or KOTN installed, and am trying for all 360.
