Elder Scrolls Remastered

Since Skyrim: Special Edition is unavoidable, whether you love the idea or hate it. What is still unknown, however, is if this is a change to the previous Bethesda policy of "No remakes". Before, Pete Hines went on the record as saying that Bethesda is not interested in retreading old ground, but now that that has happened, it opens the door for revisits of recent titles. And I'm not sure how well that can work out.

Oh, it would do well, but it would rob the ES of its past and future, as development is spent more on polishing up things we already own.

It's not that I don't mind seeing a new release. Especially since its free to PC players. It's just that I fear we may be running into the Valve dilemma. Bethesda has made so much money from their current catalog that they don't need to continue releasing new titles. Look at Steam Stats, at almost any moment, and Skyrim is still a top ten game for PC players. The only other single player only game that holds such a spot is Fallout 4.

Personally, I do believe that an announcement isn't that far off for a new, main series installment, but are remasterings worthy continuations of the series in its current state?

As a non pc player, I have often envied the options available to pc players (mods), and so a remastered version of Skyrim for the consoles would be of great appeal to me (slight snag that I don't have a compatible console, but if I did).
Equally, I wouldn't play the original Morrowind because it's too old school with graphics and such, but if they remastered it, I would certainly want to give it a go.
I would begrudge paying £50/$60 for it though, when I already own the original version. Sure, it's got the mod capabilities and upgraded graphics and sound, but as far as I know, the gameplay, quests and other un-modded content is the same, so it's a steep price for a game that is fundamentally the same as what you've already got.
Despite its appeal, I would only buy it if it cost half the price.

I don't think I'd class remasterings as worthy continuations of the series, but they are a good space filler whilst we wait for TES VI.

This isn't a remake, though. It was a homework assignment for Bethsoft during Fallout 4's development. It's Skyrim with a prettier coat of paint. I really heavily doubt we'll see this treatment with other titles.

Slightly different animal, but I had no qualms buying Super Mario All Stars back in the day despite already owning the original NES carts that comprise that collection. Good quality entertainment is hard to come by. Comparitively, Skyrim's entertainment value for the dollar is vastly greater than most other games. Even to purchase it a second time with only slight upgrades, I would still consider it of greater worth than most other expenses of its ilk.

This. Pete explained away the possibility of Morrowind or Oblivion reskins quite clearly (to paraphrase: "not suitable for casuals").

Whilst I would like to play Oblivion and Morrowind on the PS4, I can't stand Oblivion nowadays due to it's god awful leveling system that requires you to be very very careful."Oh, you're a mage. GOOD! HOPE YOU DON'T OUTLEVEL YOUR GOLD AND MAGIC!" "Oh, you want to travel on foot? here is the level 20 monsters that can wipe you out because you're level 20" etc.. Don't mind the graphics apart from a few er.... hard to avoid things. Such as the head being different then the body and the line where you can see it's attached. Combat is so so but not a gamebreaker for me. Dialogue is crap though. Not as awful as Fallout 4's but it's crap as it's literally just saying name of something and no lines of written text.

But Oblivion was my favourite open world RPG. Skyrim bumped it off as my favourite open world RPG on the PS3.

For Morrowind to work as a remaster, they would more or less have to dig out the source code, overhaul the combat and at that point, they may as well just remake it from scratch in order to get it to work for Creation. Same with Oblivion. It would make them a lot of cash but they are more or less busy with 2 new IPs, TES:Online(Or at least seem to have a small contribution to it), various publisher related duties, TESVI when they start work on the planning bit, Fallout 4 wrap up. Assuming they have 4 teams. They don't have the time or manpower to do a remake. That and it could damage the games if they were to "Modernise" them. Best to leave them as they were and well, both games can be modded on PC. I know when i get them, i'll be overhauling it with mods if i can. Mainly combat, graphical(For Oblivion and probably try to get a mod that alters the models) and a [&@%!] ton of armour lore friendly mods.

And naked mods for roleplaying purposes.

Skyrim is just a copy and paste job. X1 is literally publish after adding a few features. PS4, probably copy and paste, alter as needed and viola, done. Probably a 6 month job for them if they haven't already worked on it.

That and we could have Morrowcraft. Oblivicraft judging by the recent direction they have taken.

Yes. What? If i want my character to charge naked at people just for the [&@%!] insanity, i don't want to be wearing anything. That and who will dare to admit they were beaten by a naked Dovahkiin?

I once got publicly shamed on TESO for saying Bethesda didn't make the game...

I refuse to talk to anyone on that game anymore.

Wow, that's pretty spectacular. Zone chat is usually trash though, so you're not missing out.

Tis annoying when people refer to it as Skyrim:Online or proceed to act as if they know everything about TES just because they played Online and go "Play the game and you'll understand." And usually dismiss any lore that isn't in that as false.

How will it deter from future game development when the full team isn't even working on the remaster? As I recall only a handful at best were working on this project, which is little more than spiffed up graphics and mod support for consoles and possibly some bug fixes. I'm not a developer but even I can tell you that the remaster won't require a reunion of the Skyrim team, they will have the necessary developmental tools and notes at their disposal and whatever questions or issues arise I assume they can email someone from the Skyrim team.

Yeah, that's how I understood it. It's pretty much done. Already. The lead time to release is the time it takes to print and press. The only people working on it it from here that have anything to with development are testers, and even that is unlikely.

I'm all for a remake of the first two games, maybe not giving it the shiniest coat of paint, but maybe fleshing out it's system the way they wanted to do back then. Since I remember that the transformation systems in Arena and Daggerfall were kind of borked.

Overall, I guess I'm saying I'm fine with it, so long as the game is old enough, and working on it again can add something beneficial to the game. Lord knows Battlespire could benefit from some adjustments.
