.exes and stuff

Hey you guys.

I have an odd problem, that I am not sure how I fix. I run Windows 7 on a laptop that I bought this summer, after buying the laptop, the first thing I did was obviously removing Windows 8, because that sure sucks. After installing Windows 7 and getting the indispensable drivers the machine seemed to run as it should and executables ran as they should, however, one day from day to day I was going to open a game (in this case the Settlers IV) and unlike the day before it just showed me a "loading" cursor for a second and then nothing happened (the .exe does not appear in task manager), I have since then experienced with several other games. I tried upgrading net framework to 4.5 and it seemed to work at first when I was trying to run a game that had given me the same problem, this game then appeared in task manager but failed to load and then it disappeared. What do I do now?

Any thoughts?

Strange problem. Happy Easter and what not.

When a file crashes, it usually means that it is missing a resource of some kind. Does your computer have DirectX installed on it?
This doesn't necessarily mean the latest version of DirectX, though, as some older titles specifically require DirectX 9. To think that your games don't come packaged with the correct version of DirectX by default, though, is a very unusual thought, but it's a possibility. Anyway, nonetheless, I am convinced that the problem is that your PC must be missing something. And whatever it is, your games won't run with out it (or them, if your missing more than one thing). But your PC might not be missing something, and if that's the case, I really have no idea what else the problem could be. Try scanning your computer for malware.
