I made the wrong choice in Dawnguard, and now I'm puzzled...

Hello!

Fair warning just in case, spoilers about the Dawnguard quest below :)

I finished the Dawnguard quest, in which I chose the Vampires side... and now, I regret that choice, argh!

I imagined a moment would come when I could betray entirely the vampires, and rejoin the Dawnguard, after I healed myself from vampirism.
Nope.
I suspected there might be suspicious ties between the Dawnguard and the vampires, after finding Dawnguards around the Chalice quest.
Nope.

And now I find myself, having killed Harkon, owner of Volkihar Castle, and quite sad to be attacked on sigh by Dawnguard soldiers. I mean, these are good people, defending a just cause, I can't stand having to kill them. Yeah, I'm lore-centric :(

That leads me to asking, O brave UESP dwellers... please, would you know if there is a way to UNDO all the Dawnguard quests, and go back to the moment when I was about to enter for the first time in Volkihar Castle ? (that would be this quest moment)

I'd be glad to re-do the whole Dawnguard quest line, this time refusing to become a vampire.

Sure, you may say, I could simply restore a save game from before I made the choice. But... no. That won't do. I don't have the time and courage to lose everything else I did after my vampire choice, aaaaaaaaaaaaall these other quests, big and small. I spent a very long time dedicating myself to Alchemy and Enchanting experimenting, I'm exploring the various ways to use magic in one hand and a weapon in the other hand, something I didn't do before, I have yet to finish the Thiefs main quest... Re-starting everything else from scratch would be too discouraging, to be frank.

I googled and either didn't find or found confusing answers telling both yes and no, this is why I come here to ask, haha, sorry.

Closest I could find, the "resetquest <questid>" console command wouldn't work, I think, since we're talking about a series of quests, and I think - well, I may be mistaken of course - that resetting would have the effect of having ALL the quests open at once.

I'd really dream to read there's a few console commands that would allow Skyrim to forget I already did quests, had dialogues, killed certain characters, collected certain items (Auriel's bow ? I'm ready to give up on it, any time!)...

Well, I'm asking just in case. Thank you very much if you can help :)

The short answer is no. Messing around with the console won't magically reset an entire questline. Your best hope is to disable Dawnguard and load the game, which will delete all DLC content from your save file and allow you to repeat it. This is known to corrupt your saves though, so keep a backup.

Hooo, I didn't think of it, thank you for the advice, Legoless! :)

If I deactivate the Dawnguard DLC, close to half of my mods are becoming unsuited (they are either made for Dawnguard or Dawnguard-compatible), says the Loot program. And, indeed, Skyrim won't start when I simply deactivate Dawnguard while letting its relevant mods activated.

Now, that's another problematic, giving up on every item, skill or customization provided by those mods, just so that I may restart Dawnguard... Hmm, that gets me thinking...

Do the Dawnguard attack you wherever you encounter them, or just at the castle/particular place?

Any time we meet. And I'm not a vampire anymore, I cured it with Falon in Markath.
I can't blame them, after seeing the inside of Volkihar castle, I'd want to be able tokill every of its residents.

Instead of tinkering with the quests, you could perhaps try altering the Dawnguards hostility towards you. The console commands:

Tdetect - makes npcs not notice you, you could use this when you spot Dawnguard members and then turn it off when you're out of sight of them
Tcai - turns off combat
player.setrelationshiprank <RefID> <1> - changes an npcs disposition to that of an acquaintance.

or if they are already attacking:

Open the console, click on the npc, type in 'stopcombat'.
Use a calm spell on them.

Hope one of these helps!

Just thinking out loud here really (so to speak) but is there some way to remove the Player from the Volkihar Vampire faction and add them into the Dawnguard faction?
If so then that might be worth a go?
