What happens if you add weight to gold?

There are clever mods out there that add weight to gold via scripts, claiming that adding it in the straightforward way cause problems. What are those problems exactly? I don't like the idea of a work around because I want NPC to be affected by gold weight too. Like, I'm playing with companion and I usually share my heavy stuff with them, and I'd feel tempted to stash my gold on them. 
I added 0,01 weight to all gold and just started a new game and so far I don't see anything wrong (except for any amount of gold will show the same 0,01 weight on the tooltip but I don't see that as a major problem as it adds correctly to the total weight anyway).
