Could Martin have a child?

I was thinking about how Martin was a Daedra worshiper before he was a priest. Now I guess priests have to abstain but do Daedra worshipers have to? (They're kind of like priests) If not, do you think Martin could have a child and the septim bloodline may still be kicking around in cyrodiil?

I guess we could theoretically say that anything is possible, but I really do think that this is a non-entity. Martin did not have a child, the Septim line (that is, the line of Emperors) was ended so that Skyrim might occur.

I guess another way of looking at it is that even if Martin did somehow have a child, which seems highly unlikely, by this stage his descendents would have either have been killed off by political enemies so as to prevent their claiming the throne, or would have become so removed from their blood-claim and the politics of governing the Empire that their claim is of no real relevance at this point in the timeline (and thus there has been no need to have them removed).

if Martin didn't know who he was, and he doesn't have much opportunity to give his life's story even if he knew he had kids, there's a chance these sprogs are roaming around Cyrodiil without any notion they are Septims.

If Martin followed some of the more debauched Daedra (eg Sanguine) his kids may be the fruit of anonymous orgies, and the mother might not know who fathered the child she held 9 months later nor ever meet Martin again

and the only paternity test which would identify a Septim (ie the amulet of kings), was being worn by Martin when he became a statue.

so I guess we'll never know for sure

There's no assertion in the games that priests must take a vow of celibacy. In fact, we have evidence to the contrary. Lortheim was married, so was Rorlund.

True, but Martin does detail that his reasoning for becoming a priest was to get away from his previous life, that of a worshipper of Sanguine (the death of friends that is alluded to also seems to suggest he had no family to speak of at the time, and that at most his love interest was one of those 'friends'). As we get no indication of him having any sort of partner or spouse throughout the game it seems highly unlikely that he would have been involved in any sort of childbearing arrangement at the time in which the game takes place, based on his new found commitment to a more dutiful lifestyle (i.e. having a child out of wedlock would contradict everything he had founded his new life upon).

Highly unlikely he would have a kid during the game, sure. But just because Martin made a change in his life wouldn't re-cork the bottle, so to speak.

I know all about Martin, but what you shouldn't ignore in this fact pattern is that Sanguine is the prince of hedonistic revelry and debauchery. People can let their imaginations explain what that means, but in my opinion, worshipping such an entity would likely entail a lot of different varieties of orgies and black-outs.

Point being, for a time in his life, Martin was taming strange. Him having a kid he didn't know about is not highly unlikely. From a story-telling point of view, I don't like it, but it's plausible.

So are Maramal and Nura Snow-Shod. I think it is more about abstaining until marriage. But that's just a guess.

I really don't think it matters. I'm sure there are descendants of even Tiber Septim roaming around somewhere. Any anythings possible, I guess.

And even if that isn't an element of the role of a priest in Cyrodiil, it does make sense that such an abstinence would fit martin's newly reformed lifestyle and character.

Martin was a Sanguine worshipper, I'm sure he has a few [&@%!] kicking around somewhere.

It's possible but improbable that Martin had a kid. Still, could easily be a couple of other descendants of the Septim bloodline running around. Although with Martin's sacrifice it isn't like it matters that much what with the Dragonfires no longer needing to be lit.

He couldn't have. There are no children present in Oblivion. Did you not notice this?

So there were children and then they all disappeared when we escape from the sewers? :P

Back on topic, I see it as highly likely that Martin could have a [&@%!] running around out there. It is unlikely that he knew of the child, and that the Septim line could theoretically still have continued was rendered irrelevant when he sacrificed himself, ne?

Well plain and simple if you take examples from the real world, it is highly possible that there are a few hundredth of Septim [&@%!] running around Tamriel right now. Kings and Emperors always had mistresses and affairs en masse. So even if there is no offspring of Martin, there are surely many of other Septims.
