Cog and Gear: Reduxed, Revamped, Resteamed
The World
Hello and welcome to Cog and Gear, an RP set on the mysterious yet not so mysterious world of Enoch, more specifically the continent of Hyam; a massive island continent and currently the only known continent on Enoch. Hyam is dominated by the well-organised Human Kingdoms in the center and the south, and by well organised I mean bureaucracy and terrible administration, yes that type of organisation. The north is not so dominated by Human outposts, dangerous Dwarven ruins and a large and long mountain chain known as The Fringe, but the north is another story for another day, this adventure focuses on the Human Kingdoms, and specifically the capital region Kimmit; a sprawling metropolis, consisting of levels, suburbs, sectors, underground ruins, towers, ports and much much more, imagine Victorian London, but a Victorian London that has taken to steroids to 'speed up their gains', yep you get the image.
Much like Victorian Londoners, Kimmetians are deeply intrigued by curios, mostly of an engineering variety, after all the Kingdoms are going through their biggest industrial boom yet (and to be honest I couldn't really call it a steampunk RP otherwise), train-tracks criss-cross the Kingdoms, advanced communication systems such as the hologram are being sold at exorbatant prices and for the first time the vast majority of the military uses clockwork and gunpowder weaponry.
So, where did all this innovation come from? The Dwarves! The Humans have long been intrigued by the dissapearance of most Dwarven life a few thousand years ago and understandably even more intrigued are the several surviving Dwarves who are almost revered as pieces of living history in Human eyes. Are the people of the Human Kingdoms religious? No, they believe more in Human heroes and build shrines in the name of these men and women that spent their lives bettering the Kingdoms. The Dwarves were religious according to the several surviving Dwarves, but apparently their minds are better off occupied elsewhere these days.
Finally on the subject of magic. Magic is a big taboo topic in Kimmit and most of the Kingdoms. When King Archibald Arteton ascended the throne a few decades ago she composed an inquisition of sorts into magic and wizardry everywhere, believing (on the say-so of a Dwarven advisor) that magic was the downfall of the Dwarven civilisation. There are still small heavily monitored enclaves and guilds in Kimmit which are willing to teach men and women in the art of magic, but the majority of magic users have fled to the man-made Brass Island several miles off the coast of Kimmit.
So now you have the extensive shortened introduction to Kimmit and Human Kingdoms, but the biggest question is, who are you to judge it?
You may choose two attributes from any of these seven to specialise your character:-
-Strength: Your character clearly lifts
-Endurance: Your character can run for miles and miles and miles, and probably some more
-Perception: Your character's eyesight is the equivalent of wearing several pairs of binoculars
-Intelligence: Your character knows most things concerning the world...nerd
-Willpower: Your character would probably attend the arcane equivalent of a gym
-Agility: Your character is like a ninja on speed
-Luck: Your character certainly ate their Lucky Charms
Skills
You may choose three skills from any of the three Path to specialise your character:-
Path of the Warrior:-
-Marksman: Your character is an adept marksman and enjoys using all ranged weapons from rifles to muskets to crossbows
-Hand-to-Hand: Your character loves a good fight and to them the best fight is one using your fists
-Melee: Your character is an admirer of everything stabby and killy, as long as it involves swinging it first
Path of the Rogue:-
-Stealth: Your character's best moments lay in the shadows and to them the thrill is in the hunt
-Speech: Your character could sell a book to a blind man, their weapon is their tongue and they aren't half good at using it
-Engineer: Your character's idea of fun is slaving away for months over something which may not actually work, but hell they'll enjoy it
Path of the Wizard:-
-The Elements: Your character can mould earth, fire, water and air into something that can devastate or assist those around them
-The Mystic: Your character can pretty much do most things with magic, shame most mysticisians are amused by a floating pen
-Restoration: Your character is the equivalent of first aid, trudging about saving sorry souls from certain death and papercuts
The story for this RP definitely will not be swiftly paced, i'm sorry I can't promise that.
Rules
Just go check another RP's introduction i'm pretty sure most rules coincide with most RP's these days, but for extra emphasis, please don't GODMOD it really gets on my nerves, but as I said before i'm sure this is a given.

AHAHAHAHAHA, YES.
Vex is back!
Character Sheet
Name: Vectina "Vex" Ashling Gender: Female Age: 18 Appearance: Has orange-ish blonde hair that extends to her shoulders, a soft face and golden-amber eyes. She is short for her age, yet rather 'well-endowed' for her height and weight. Often wears leather, ruffles, and bows. (Used this for inspiration.) Bio: Vex is from Kimmit, the daughter of an ex-ship captain father and a scholarly, magically gifted mother. Vex grew up living in somewhat middle-class conditions, where the only real work she had to worry about was her chores and education. She spent her free time studying magic in secret with her mother, learning how machines worked from her father, and participating in an acting troupe called the King's Wingmen, where she used her singing voice to play as the lead role in many plays.
One day, sometime around Vex's 16th birthday, her father reported that they had hit a sudden financial crisis just as they expected him to get a new, high paying job working with construction. Vex and her mother were looking at jobs when tax collectors barged in to their home, trying to take Vex and her parents away to a prison. Vex narrowly escaped through a window and ran away from her home in Kimmit.
She ran for days, staying at the homes of kind strangers during the nights. As soon as she acquired the money, she purchased passage away from her home to another part of Kimmit where she would not be recognized or pursued for the mistakes her parents made. For the last two years, she has made money as a lounge singer.
The real question is, what will she do now? She has always craved adventure, but never had the courage to attempt anything dangerous. It'll take a dramatic turn of events to get her to change her path in life. Her only clue in what she wants out of her life is to raise the money to pay off the mysterious debt her father owes. She also wishes to go to the Brass Island, where she might practice her magic without scrutiny. Personality: Vex is a happy person, with an almost bubbly attitude towards many things. She likes to voice her opinion on things that concern her, and doesn't like secrets from being kept from her. Curious to a fault, she feels the need to know about just about everything. Vex doesn't mind getting dirty.
Though she is constantly pestered by older men in the lounge, Vex is a hopeless romantic and dreams of finding a boy her age, and as such, she is a bit of a flirt to certain individuals.
Vex gets scared easily, and tends to shake and get nervous in high-stake situations. She has trouble making hard decisions, and prefers to be a worker in the background than in the spotlight when anything other than singing or acting is concerned. Vex doesn't feel like she 'knows herself' very well; something she has trouble explaining to others.
Vex also has trouble with trusting people, but desires friends above all. She feels that if she finds people that she can find her place with, her life will be easier to figure out. She feels most comfortable when working on some sort of contraption or gizmo, and is an avid tinkerer. She often sings when working. Apparel: See 'apperance'. Weaponry: Vex carries a pistol and a dagger for self protection, but would go for her magic first in any event of danger. Attribute 1: Intelligence Attribute 2: Perception Skill 1: The Elements Skill 2: The Mystic Skill 3: Engineer
Can't wait! Let me know if I need to fix anything.

Brilliant! Don't need to change anything really. She'll fit right in perfectly, maybe this time we'll be able to solve her father's tax problem!

I don't know if anyone else knows about this other than you two, I don't know how to get people's attention to be honest it's been a while since my last RP was made.
@shadow: yalun was a brilliant character if you do want to use him I doubt he'll need much work, but it's up to you whether or not you will make a new character.

You might want to read this article, as well as the OP. They should give you a basic understanding.

I had to. I'm loving Attack on Titan.

Right, Rook your character is brilliant and i'll put it up on the OP for when we do get enough people together to start this RP up.
Dovah, the article Rook put on will help, but this post here kind of sums up the lore of Kimmit and Hyam for you.
Lore Fix No.1
Enoch is the world the RP is set in, more specifically the large island continent of Hyam, which is dominated by several Human Kingdoms, Counties, Baronies etc, which together make up the Human Kingdoms. These lands dominate the middle and south of the island continent (about the size Africa). The north is a mysterious and barren artic or tundra like wasteland dotted by various Human outposts.
The only known living race on Hyam are the humans and the dwarves. The humans as I said dominate most of the continent, but the largest city is Kimmit, where the RP will be taking place. The culture of Kimmit is kind of like continental Europe/Britain during the Napoleonic period, but the biggest twist is the use of machinery; trains exist, steam-powered horses (very hard to come by), airships, much more advanced weaponry, basically most things you could put your mind to. The Human Kingdoms love machinery and intrigued greatly by it, the opposite could be said of magic. Magic is a massive taboo subject in the Kingdoms, and the majority of magicians are locked away in Towers and hostels, yet some do escape or have never been locked away at all. Religion isn't really big with humans and they prefer to build shrines to humans who have achieved great things in their life and thus aspire to be like them, the Big Two are The Heavenly Magnus Echart who drove the blight of magic from Hyam several centuries ago and The Heavenly Edith Bock who spent her life exploring the dwarven ruins and discovering great technologies.
Dwarves the other race of Hyam, unfortunately unplayable, have nearly been completely wiped out. A very mysterious race that according to legend destroyed their holdings in Hyam with their own curiosity and intelligence. A very mysterious race, many dwarves stand in the courts of the royalty of the Human Kingdoms as they are well respected by humans for their intelligence.
Regarding Kimmit; Kimmit is a massive city, that over the hundreds of years of population growth it has faced (Kimmit is based on incredibly rich ground for farming), has been built level upon level, like a huge metropolis. It is built on the coast, thus has a large fishing industry as well, not to mention the several sky-ports that line the levels of the city. Many of the older districts are inhabited by poorer people and the richer live in lofty estates where one could actually seen the sky without having to squint. Kimmit's ruler is the King Archibald Arteton, and his family have controlled the various positions of importance in the city for the majority of this decade. Off the coast to the west are the Brass Islands, several small islands made by magicians when magic was being forced under by humans, they mostly keep to themselves. A large river runs through Kimmit, aptly named The Kimmit River, which over the years of being forced into canal systems has eventually flooded the majority of the lower levels leading most of the inhabitants to live in squalor.
-----
In the RP i'm going to do something similar to what happens in Dragon Age; when you discover something new about the world (lore-related), i'll put it in a spoiler tag in greater detail, like a codex-entry.

Vex is going to hate statues of Magnus.

Are you still planning on having this RP happen? I feel like joining a Fantasy RP, I'm not in any at the moment and haven't been for a while. So I might join this. If I did it would probably be as a talky engineer type. But if it isn't then there's no point making a sheet.

Yeah, I am definitely planning on having this RP happen! Just as union says, i'm currently waiting on a couple more additions to the crew, so that we can get the RP going.
And feel free to PM me or post any questions you might have here Beta, or Kerr.

Unionhack is part of the reason I came to check this out. I also liked that First Era TES RP. I bought Arcanum not that long ago, need to play it eventually. But watch this space, I'll get to making a sheet.
A question, does homophobia exist? Because I'm going to be making a non-hetrosexual character. It is usually tied to certain religions, there have been plenty of civilisations where same-sex relations haven't been taboo.

I have to admit union has been really helpful with this reincarnation of Cog and Gear. Homophobia doesnt really exist, there a few people who would put their nose up at it but that would be more because of their own beliefs rather than a social taboo.

Right, I have a couple of questions not key to my character but I'm curious. Are there any kind of democratic or other political movements? What are guns like? Are they just flintlocks and muskets? What is the currency?
Hidden:
Name: Lee Frye Gender: Male Age: 21 Appearance: White skin, short brown hair, hazel eyes. Average height and build. Clean shaven, doesn't grow much facial hair anyway. Average looking but also "baby faced", he looks younger than he is. Often dirty and coated in some kind of engine grease. Bio: Lee comes from a small mining town. He is from a family of 4 which consisted of his mother Mary, his father Jack and his sister who is five years older than him Rebecca. His mother worked at the railway station, fixing trains and when he reached the proper age Lee joined her there. His father and sister were both magic users, a fact they kept secret to the public but that many people were at least somewhat aware of. Jack thought both his children how to read. Two years ago, a neighbour's child was found murdered. Lee's father and sister were accused by the parents. The guards came to take them away. His mother tried to stop them but was killed in the process. However she did manage to slow down the guards, as Rebecca managed to escape. Lee hasn't seen or heard of her since. His father didn't manage to escape and was taken away to the guards and imprisoned, likewise Lee hasn't heard anything about his father but believes he is most likely dead. Lee had no reason to stay in his hometown after this so he left, his neighbours weren't upset to see the last of the Frye's leave. He headed to Kimmit and began working fixing up airships until yesterday when he was laid off due to the company he worked for shutting down because they were failing to keep up with their competition. He is very skilled so will probably be able to find another job but is tempted the lure of adventure like in the stories he enjoys so much. He is currently living in a room in a terraced house which he rents. Personality: Has a fascination with machinery, always has. Also loves stories and knowledge in general. Usually a nice person, isn't likely to start a physical fight. But is an opinionated person and could start a debate. Centre-Left politically. Cares about the well being of others, thinks more should be done to help the poor. Naturally sympathetic to the discrimination magic users face. Bisexual. Pretty shy when it comes to romantic relationships. Had one significant other, a girlfriend for a couple of months in teenage years. Is a virgin. Apparel: Black boots, black bib and brace overalls, white shirt, black newsboy cap. Weaponry: A pistol he carries on his for personal protection, has had it since leaving his hometown. A number of tools that could be improvised weapons, of note is his mother's red wrench which she had affectionately named "Jackie" after her husband. Attribute 1: Intelligence Attribute 2: Perception Skill 1: Speech Skill 2: Engineer Skill 3: Marksman

That character sheet is pretty sound and i'll get it up on the OP, regarding your questions:
Currency:
Just your average minted coins, quite well made. The Human Kingdoms umbrella administration restricts unlawful forgery of currency, but the majority of Kingdoms within the organisation allow it to go on under their watch.
Guns:
Flintlocks and muskets basically. They are the most prevalent form of guns, but some specialist weaponry such as rifles and even fully automatic weapons (incredibly rare, only made by the finest craftsmen) can be found.
Movements:
Kimmit has quite a modern form of monarchy; a constitutional monarchy. The King Archibald Arteton allowed the formation of a senate early on in his reign (which has now spanned five decades). However the Kimmet Senate is a rather aristocratic affair, tended to only by the upper class Houses and Clans of Kimmit that would have the money or status to buy their way into democracy. There is an active underground political movement known as 'Common Democracy' or simply put 'The Commoners' who have been actively pursuing a broader democracy in Kimmit since the formation of the Senate, the leadership has a strong left leaning but the majority of their members are just average Kimmetians, they have yet to initiate any violence, but they do lobby strongly with the government and the public. 'The Inquisitors' are also a movement of sort, yet these do hold seats in the Senate; this party serves the Chapel of the Heavenly Magnus Echart and seeks to enforce anti-magic legislation.
---
I am very happy to see such well made and detailed characters, should be really fun writing up some more personal quests for the party once you all get together!
