To Legendary or not to Legendary...that is the question

When you go Legendary you lose all of your perks in that skill, correct? I recently hit 100 in one-hand and had the option to reset to 15 and then re-use the perks in other skills. But then I figured I would lose all my awesome Crit skills.

What is the pros and cons about "going Legendary"?

Thanks for your input!

The pros are kind of obvious, it's an open opportunity to raise your overall level and crunch in a few more perks to use. Granted it carries over a risk, said skill will no longer be powerful, essentially meaning you'll have to level it back. Unlike before when you were a low level, low skills mattered not, but in a high level.. things won't be sugar coated son<_<
For 1-H, it draws upon how heavily you rely on it. You may have to rely on a few other supports, but at the same time may reduce how fast you can boost your 1-H skill.

Essentially, it's like starting fresh and on a new run.. except the training wheels are off and everything wants to eat you..
Still, more perks mean you can be more powerful, so it draws the question, is it worth it?

Well, i have already Legendaried my one handed skill once, and i managed to get a couple of extra levels out of it when levelling it back up to 100. I'm considering doing another one for a few more levels. :P

anyways, It's actually quite easy to train it up after resetting it. as long as you have your difficulty set up high at Master or Legendary, you can go through a single draugr dungeon and probably get up to 45 or so in one handed. at this point you will be able to use your weapons effectively, and you'll be quite close to getting more of the perks back anyways.

So yes, i would suggest you try it, and I'd say you try and do it in one of the long draugr dungeons, but remember to do it in a dungeon you can always back out of if you need to, just in case.

If you have a lot of fortify one-handed enchantments on your gear and decent weapons then you're not really going to suffer for it, so I'd say go ahead. The main pros of making a skill legendary are using it to grab some extra perks, or to hit high levels without investing in skills you never wanted to (pickpocketing for a lawful character for example). The major drawback is that it may take a while to level said skill again, but you can use the guardian stones (+ lover stone at the same time with the Aetherial Crown) as well as sleeping benefits to significantly offset this.

I've found it useful to mainly get the extra perks, as both alteration and illusion can be levelled easily (alteration in about half an hour with Detect Life in Riften) back to skill level 100 - whereas other mage skills aren't quite so easy to level.

Does enchanted apparel still work on a legendarized skill? It seems not to, or am I misunderstanding something?

Yes, it still works. The final result numbers are lower in most but not all cases. For examples:

If you have enchants for say, total of 100% cost reduction on a magic skill to make them free to cast, it will still work as free to cast.
If you have a Fortify weapon skill enchant, then it still applies its full bonus, but to a smaller number reducing its final effect.
If you are using a fortify armour skill enchant, then it is pretty much the same, as those simply add onto your skill rather than a multiplier.
If you are using Fortify crafting skills, then they are much less effective.

In other words, still works, just probably not as well as before.

You do realize that this topic has been dead for a year, right?

His concern isn't a year old. He just had a question and had the gumption to dig a year back in the topics. Not what I would have done, but why do you care anyways?

You can always train up another skill to replace the one you’re about to “Legendary” like, say Two-Handed. Easy enough, especially if you’ve completed the Companions quest-line and have trainers available as followers. Keeping two or three sets of “Fortify (insert weapon skill)” gear doesn’t hurt either.

Well, for one, necro-posting is against the rules. Secondly, his question had nothing to do with the OP's question.

But hey, if I get dissed for abiding the rules, then I simply won't bother with it anymore in the future.

I used to try to make pure characters focusing only on my combat skills and never more than one way to deal damage. Now I use melee AND ranged and learned to pad my levels with seconday skills. It's more fun to have a well rounded character, and it would definitely help to have one if you plan to make a skill legendary.

EDIT: The necro post rule is mostly to keep threads that serve no purpose anymore from resurfacing, and is often debatable, especially if the new discussion is along the lines of the subject matter of the thread. I think a post asking a question about legendary skills is fair in this case. I guess I'm in a prickly mood today to point this out in the first place, but you weren't adding anything to the discussion anyways.

And neither did you. Besides, CBR JGWRR had already answered his question, so there was no point in me answering it again. After all, this is fortunately not Youtube, where on every video at least a dozen people have to repeat something that was already said.

The problem with necro posts is also that people often don't look at the dates before replying. It can already be seen here. logansrun's post is pretty much in response to the OP's post from last year and doesn't have anything to do with Parkinglot's issue.

Anyway, do what you want. I'm done here.

He means when I said:

That I wasn't contributing. And he's right, I wasn't, I was being a useless dick choosing to shoot down another useless dick shooting someone down. But I made the choice on the side of anti-useless-dicks.

Also when he said:

I hadn't insulted him yet... now I have. I guess the lesson is don't be a useless dick and shoot people down.

This is ridiculous.

Belthazor was just trying to point out that it was necroposting so that another user could learn from their mistake. No need to call him/her a dick.

That said, I wouldn't consider your initial response "dissing" them. :wat:

Yeah. This thread is dead now anyways; we murdered it. I was mostly saying we were both acting like jerks. Someone asked a question relevant to the topic and for whatever reason instead of saying something constructive he nitpicked a semi broken rule. I'm sure it would have gotten resolved if it needed to be. I don't like that kind of behavior.

I know what you're saying, but Belthazor didn't do anything wrong, unless you count misinterpreting you slightly. There's no need to be so hostile.

Ridiculous as it may be, everybody needs to settle down less further action be taken.
Till further notice this thread has met it's purpose, till then consider this thread locked, be it permanently or not..

Also if you wish to post within a thread that has expired, ask a Mod first even if the necro was in good intention.
This helps avoid any issues be it with the staff or another user
