who has the cash to buy the pricey items from you?

I'm carrying lots of things that have prices in excess of 1,000 but when I go to the NPC's that buy things, they rarely have more than 750 or so to pay me. Where can I go to unload my expensive stuff in one go?

Well you can always get the perk that let's you invest in a store, giving them more money to trade with.
Or you can alternate which city you sell things at, as I'm sure that (correct me if I'm wrong) any gold that isn't spent is just added to the total of what the game gives them, so if you go a few days without selling things to a certain shop its gold supply can easily reach above three thousand.

open console, click person, "additem f 10000" without quotes.

Repeat until all junk is sold.

I'm pretty sure the gold does not accumulate over time and resets every 48 hours. Really the only merchants able to buy things over 1000 septims are the fences for the Thieves Guild, after upgrading them through quests.

Gunmar with the dawnguard often has a lot of coin (usually 1500seps or more).

Couldn't get that to work - according to what I read about the command, if you give a trader NPC gold to trade, you can't trade your items for it, sooooo
I just dumped the item and gave myself the gold the trader would give if he had it - of course I could have kept the item but, as a member of the Companions, I'm trying to move them upscale a little bit what with the word around Whiterun that we are just a bunch of musclebound thieves.

Have you tried buying things as well as selling? Buying metal ingots from blacksmiths (especially Refined Malachite and Ebony Ingots) before you try selling gives the blacksmith more money, and you can use those ingots to upgrade the equipment you're selling. Buying potion ingredients and the potions that can't be made (e.g. Potion of Ultimate Healing - restores all HP) gives potion sellers more money.

I recommend the Merchant and Investor perks on the Speech skill tree.

Here's a list of all merchants in Skyrim.

Good idea - I have loads of ingots and little use for most of them since I'm a light armor guy...

Actually they have almost the lowest amount of gold at 500 and a bit, with only hunters and innkeepers who have lower.

Court mages who also train a skill can have a huge amount of money if you take 5 levels of training prior to selling to them ;). The same is also true of blacksmiths such as Balimund, who train the Smithing skill, and alchemists such as Lami who train you in Alchemy.

Whether this is helpful depends on whether you're trying to break even (get your training for "free" by selling back items to the value of what you spent) or make money.

I had the same issue and it got really old after a while. I solved it with a mod that levels up merchants wallets as you level up your character. It stops before the merchants hit the buggy 30k gold glitch that's in the vanilla game. I think the merchants top out at 20k gold

Leveling Merchant's Wallets

Another way around this issue is this custom stand alone merchant. Some call this a cheat and it probably is if you use it while out adventuring. If you stick to visiting her in Whiterun its not what I call a cheat.

Instant Merchant

I use both with no issues

If you do the thieves guild sidequests it expands the amount of gold each fence has, up to 4000 gold.
You do 5 jobs in each of the main holds excluding riften and each time you complete the special mission after doing the 5 side jobs it expands all fences available gold by around 750.
Each special job creates a new merchant in the ragged flagon which makes Riften the best place to sell anything.
Also after doing 3 of the special jobs you get another special job that opens up a fence in each of the 3 khajit caravans who will all have the same amount of gold as the normal fences.

There are a few mods out there that give merchants a more interactive supply of cash and alter the trading system as a whole (instead of being reset to 500, 750, or whatever the merchant has). You could look into that, if you like to use mods.

Hello, I summon a Dremora Merchant, he has 2000 gold, and then I sell to my spouse giving me a total of 2750 per day, and I don't even have to leave the house! Boom!!
Also Yorland Grey-Mane has high cash, some of the Kajiit's, the other Smith's in larger towns do, also fences?

Dynamic Merchants is a mod I use. After shopping with a merchant, return in a short time and he/she has a random, but useful amount of money again.
But, sadly, hasn't been updated for a while now.
