Life in ESO

I'm somewhat interested in the non-action elements of gameplay in ESO, I played Oblivion and Skyrim, so I don't know about prior games, but in these two, there was a home-life element.
In skyrim we didn't have to always be the dragonborn of legend...we could put down our adventuring boots for a while, and do work like farming and lumber-mill working, woodchopping and hunting, all for money.
In Oblivion, we were able to purchase and furnish houses, and in Skyrim, we could do that, and then marry an NPC... in the hearthfire DLC, we could adopt children, and even build our own homes.

Due to it's nature as an MMO, I doubt we'll be seeing THAT extent of home-life. But I read in an article that I cannot find to source that there would be the option to engage in 'unions' with other players, a marriage substitute. And that, though there would be no adoption at release, the idea was said to have 'interested' the developer interviewed. With the expected mass population of the megaservers, I doubt it would be easy to have thousands of homes for sale, but will we be, in any way, able to own property, even if it was loaded into a phase of it's own so everyone technically owned the same house...

Don't get me wrong, I want to play ALL of the game, but this seems undermentioned, and it all interests me.
What are your thoughts on this, the less-heroic element of the game?

Marriages I suppose might be welcome, if a bit odd. Houses I've heard both yes and no on, but that'd certainly be cool to have. I do know they've talked about an extensive crafting/profession system whereby you can while away your time with things like cooking and fishing, so there'll be plenty of opportunities to "take off the cape" and just muck around for fun. IMO, that's part of what makes TES so much fun; you can put literally hundreds of hours into the game with almost no attention to being a hero.

I found a video that covers a few points on this post...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZpNe5iredw

From around 17:04, they discuss first Homes, and then Relationships.

So it seems that the 'partnerships' between players are possible, and advantageous... and yes, I read into the professions, 5 available, and you can specialise in two, or generalise all 5, or something to that effect

I would love the idea of being able to have a house. It would be a nice way for players to store their expensive unused loot and show it off. Perhaps playing could make offers to you for them ?

Player or guild housing would be really terrific. Hopefully they will consider one or both of those down the road. Player housing has been a big part of TES since Morrowind and it can be done in an MMO via instancing a few houses in towns.

One of my favorite aspects of Skyrim was homemaking, marriage, crafting your own items, and generally not adventuring. Like others, I'm guessing ESO won't have this level of misc tasks and that is a shame.

It would be just as much of a shame if they released them as DLC's/ expansion packs kind of thing...

Why would it be a shame if they did that? I think there's quite a few MMOs that add more things like that later, Guild Halls specifically spring to mind. That gives them more time before to focus on the core of exploration, quests and world content, and they can move on to these things later.

I think they're planning a few misc tasks that you can get into while not adventuring; obviously they have their 5 lines of crafting, and then there's fishing as well. There's also the marriage-like "friendship rings" thing, but I don't know much about how that works.

It'd be nice if they added some sort of housing later; I personally think guild halls are more likely than player housing, at least to start with.

@Enodoc, I think Technodix was implying and we had to pay for it, rather than they just added it in later.

I wouldn't mind guild housing, either, though I do like the idea of instanced houses, so that only you, and those in your 'group' could visit your personal instance

Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad.

Yeah, that'd stink. :/
