"No copyright infringement is intended"

How is this a thing? So, when I found the soundtrack to skyrim on youtube, this was posted in the description:
All audio are registered copyrights and registered trademarks of their respective owners

No copyright infringment[sic] is intended

All credit goes to Bethesda & Jeremy Soule
That's not the first I've seen of it though. Why do people think that that's a> necessary, and b> someting that would actually work!? That's like going into your local Habib's Garage & Goat and stealing the goat, all the while screaming "This goat belongs to Habib of Habib's Garage & Goat, all rights go to Habib, no theft is intended!!" That just wouldn't fly in real life.

So where did this come from? And why do you think people still do it?

It's for the best not to worry about idiocy on Youtube.

There's a big difference between people not giving credit to Bethesda, and claiming it as their own. They have to say something, or else, more than likely, Bethesda will take the video down. You may ask why they put it up in the first place as well, it's because they want to have the music on YouTube for people to listen to. If it's already on YouTube, then they either have a higher quality version, or are just posting it for attention.

That's not true. Bethesda can take it down regardless. If anything, saying that can be taken as an admission of guilt against the uploader that Beth could use against them. In my experience with them, Bethesda has been extremely lenient with its dealings with their fans using their creations, but that still doesn't mean that they don't have the legal high ground due to a combination of copyright laws protecting them and a legal team that most people just couldn't afford.

Well yeah, saying that is certainly no legal excuse, it's just less of a dick move by stating that you don't claim ownership.

That's true. I just wanted to point out that there was absolutely no smart reason for them doing that.

It is just a nice thing to do. It avoids claiming the work of others as your own and gives credit where credit is due.
