RP Sub-Forum Exclusivity

So as many of you know one of the biggest complaints we get is how the RP threads fill up the "Active Topics" and "New Posts" lists. Since we're all a little tired of hearing about it, the Moderating Team has come up with what we hope will be an amicable solution for all involved.
We're shutting down the RP sub-forum.
NO! Kidding. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. What we're thinking of doing is making the RP sub-forum unreadable for anyone who is not a part of a special group called "Roleplayers" individual users could decide whether they want to join the group or not, and even leave the group if they wanted to. The group would be voluntary and control for being a member would be left in the hands of the individual. That way if you don't want to see RP threads ever, you wouldn't join the group. If RPs are your thing, you would join the group.
Doing it this way would still have the RP sub-forum title visible in the forum listing, but only readable to those who have joined the group.
Instead of just implementing it, I wanted to get feedback from you, since you will be the ones affected by this. We would put a brief instruction in the sub-title for the sub-forum telling any would-be RPers to join the group to be able to participate.
So, thoughts?

I don't really see a problem with that, I guess. Someone would have to explain how to join the group, seeing as I have no idea how to join a group.

You would go to your Control Panel > User Groups then click on the group you want to join and choose "Join Selected".

Okay, a lot more simple than I expected.

I like it! We'll finally have peace from Non Rp'ers who constantly badger us Rp'ers!
But why are we such a problem? I'm sure other sub forums post frequently as well!

Kudos to Mman for finding such a wonderfully elegant solution. Hats off!

That is actually a very good idea. It may be worthwhile adding it underneath General in the board index for us Roleplayers for quicker access unless that is what you are actually planning. It could be worth to only have active roleplays in the new subforum and move the dead or finished roleplays to the archives as the dead or finished ones are just cluttering the current ones. Prehaps create a moderator group exclusive to the roleplay forum to ensure only active roleplays are in the active forum and the dead/finished ones are in the archives as well. Or just task Eltee with moving dead/finished ones to the archives to keep the forum small and to make it look tidy.
Just had an idea, prehaps within the new roleplay subforum, a roleplay arts section can be added as some of us do like to write about our characters and some people won't know what the writer is on about if they don't want to check the RP forum.Oh and give us Sweetrolls instead of Septims when we join the Roleplay group. Or sheogorath.

I think the only problem I can see this causing is a lack of new people joining RPs. People who could be interested will look at the section, find out they aren't in the group and can't see anything and not come back. I didn't want to join any RPs when I first went the look at the section. I didn't even know what the section was about. It was only snooping around and curiosity over a period of weeks that made me eventually sign up to one.

It was suggested we put up a global announcement as well as something in the new member's welcome PM letting them know how to join the group. Joining wouldn't be permanent, either. If they decided RPs weren't for them they could leave the group.

It's a good idea, to stop the complaining, even if the complaining itself was rather idiotic. You want to see other things happen, then go post in those threads. Maybe they would be more active then, instead of GTD being filled with you being angry that they aren't active.

Was that directed at me, or a more general "you"?

It was a general "you".

Why would you even ask that Music; you're in more RPs than most people I know here.

Just wondering, could we join this group and not participate in any RP's? I occasionally read one or two of the RPs but never join any.

Yes. Joining the group wouldn't mean you would have to participate, just that you would be able to read the RP sub-forum. For those who do not join the group, the RP sub-forum threads would not show up in "Active Topics" or "New Posts" or any other search. That is the main criticism that the sub-forum gets - that it's too active and people don't want to have to dig through a bunch of RP threads to find a thread they're interested in. This would make it so they never have to see another one again if they chose not to.

I just joined. I also noticed that it seems I can resign being a confirmed user. Perhaps this isn't the place to ask but that seems like a strange option.

You actually can't. If you tried it would say you can't because you're not the group leader.

Think we deserve our own color? Because we're all special and what not? no? oh well.

The point of the group isn't to stand out, but to be less noticeable
